I got a buddy key from someone and tried it out again. The game is pretty nice and plays well. BUT what stops me from buying the game is the Cash shop.
I mean they have LOTS AND LOTS of "fluff" there which i would want if i had the game. But 10 Euros for an outfit it's pretty outrageous. And i guess from now on all the new clothes are going to be shop exclusive.
Either they drop the sub or they drop the shop. That's the only way i'm going to be playing the game.
It follows the same succesful model that WOW follows - you can't really blame them for trying.
Also, there is NOT a lot of fluff in the cash shop. Compared to what you can get in the game:
The devs have also said that new items in the cash shop will be purely funded by previous cash shop purchases. They also said that there will be new clothes added in-game with each monthly update - so no, new clothes will not be cash shop exclusive.
They could give me a lifetime sub and I would not play this game. I refuse to invest my time in these shallow 90'dayer mmo's.
Either the game lasts 90 days, or they fill it up with grinding at end-game -- but then everyone just calls it a "wowclone!" and leaves.
Also, not all games are meant to be "investments"... some are just meant to be games played for fun.
So a fellow gets bored and leaves after 90 days (or sooner), or grind end game and leave? Id much rather take the chances on a good well thought out diverse end game holding people attention vs the first option two.
Also you have 24 hours in a day there are multiple ways to invest that time. Work, hobby, TV "fun" etc. etc. Every second of your day is invested in something, atleast you better hope it is or your !

Yes, but does every "investment" share the same value as the others in a day? I would say no, because a job or child care is a bit more important in a single day than any leveling treadmill on an MMORPG.. So to break away from HAVING to be serious (ya know, with real life stuff) you entertain yourself with a hobby.. Not really meant to be seen AS an investment because you should really already know what to expect from a hobby and in most cases the return is only as good as you will accept it to be personally.
For me MMORPG's are not "investments" but rather an interesting way to see a "plant grow".. I plant the seed and nourish the plant till its firm and healthy, and at max level when the plant is all grown up some people decide to plant another seed while others move on to another type of greenery..
P.S. Before it is mentioned I am not speaking about plants with fruit or vegetable growths, not crops, a simple household plant that you expect nothing more of but the satisfaction of watching it grow and saying that you helped it get there.
Why is it losing so many subs before the first month is up? Even in Twitch TV there is not as many broadcasting as there use to be and on x-fire it has dropped out of the top 25 games. So what is up?
I played TSW two weeks straight semi hardcore. I will explain my reasons behind why in my OPINION they are losing subscriptions. Before I do however do not think i'm one of the jerk offs that want this game to fail and just complains, I don't want any MMO to fail, but improve, TSW has alot of potential but it does have flaws that need to be addressed and if no one complains then the game won't improve.
*Combat. You get one resource builder that builds resources for both weapons. Get two finishers. That is how you will play the majorty of the game. I use the buisness 5 times, unload with shootout, then Exantuiate (cant spell it :P). I used dirty tricks when its up for added dps and hinder, deadly aim for random crit boost, blood shield for heal, and wanted for aoe. But the most of it is just building up basically combo points to 5 then using two finishers. Nothing exciting.
Well, with this deck/combat you describe in your posting,y ou would never ever beat the gatekeeper and get near any nightmare dungeon. You just won't do any damage and maybe haven't got a clue what a good dps deck might be.
celebrating what? I will check the game in about 6 months or so; aint touching it anytime soon; news scream 'we need more subs"
It screams "Our game is good enough to let people try it without paying for it! That's how certain we are that they will like it and buy it!"
It's the shitty crappy games that don't give away free trials, since people will try it and realize it's crap, and will never buy. Only devs who are confident in their product will do free trials at this stage of a game.
It's basic logic.
Thats actually true. SWTOR got free trial to lvl 15.... like 6 months after release when the game was almost dead and they didnt have any other choice.

^ Very true. I didn't think about that part, Rock. The skeptic in me is screaming that they are testing the waters for F2P with this "trial." Seeing how many of the visitors look at the cash shop, etc. I'd like to hope that they have enough subs to continue with P2P for at least a year, though, seeing that the content releases will be much better that way, and it isnt the story that is a detracting part of this game (it is a great story). But we shall see in the future.

i disagree, highly doubt most people will sit there and download 31.8 gigs for a game they have no interest in playing....

There is one EXBAWKS-HEUG difference between this free weekend and SWTOR'S free weekends. With SWTOR, the free weekends were only for people who didn't have a pre-existing account and hadn't played before. "WUT DAT, U ARREDY PARTICIPATE IN PWEVIUS FREE REEKEND? TOO BAD, FORK UP CASH OR DING DONG BANNU!" The obvious purpose of this was to prevent lapsed players from seeing the "improvents" being made since they left (read: WOW, IT'S ****ING NOTHING) and pointing out this stagnancy to the weekend players.
With this beta weekend though, ANYONE can play, regardless of whether or not they have played before. Funcom is actually courting both new AND past players, and are showing their confidence in not only their current product but also in their ability to update and maintain it. They realize that if these players are impressed enough, subscriptions will follow.
IMO, this is a very smart move on Funcom's part. If they continue these unrestricted free weekends (say, one free weekend every two months or so) and stay on the ball with their tech and customer support, it could go a loooong way to rebuilding its reputation within the gaming community.

No sir, you are wrong. This is an attempt to get more subs. And there is nothing wrong with that. None of what you said made any sense AT ALL unless you are being sarcastic....and if so then it flew right over my head...
Not much of a marketer, are ya? So you would rather buy a game before even being able to test it? If you are confident with the product you are selling, wouldn't you let the consumer try it for free instead of "pushing" the sale in order to make a buck?
I have done sales and I know the difference it makes for the consumer if he is allowed to test the product before s-/he buys it. I can always go around and push the sale right there. Not as awarding as having the consumer come back to you and tell you that he wishes to buy the product. :-)
Why is it losing so many subs before the first month is up? Even in Twitch TV there is not as many broadcasting as there use to be and on x-fire it has dropped out of the top 25 games. So what is up?
All you can really glean from this is a trend among x-fire users and twitch-tv broadcasters, but i guess it's easy to interpret this in such a way as to doom-monger about a game implying it has lost a substantial number of subscriptions ("why is it losing so many subs").
The truth is not everyone has subbed, thats a simple fact as it's unheard of for everyone who bought the game to sub which means, yes, numbers will be down. Thats called attrition and every single new release mmorpg suffers from it, you cannot say the numbers loss is down to anything more than the standard attrition drop. It's impossible to claim it's losing more than this standard, no-one knows how many subscribers this game has, no-one knows how many copies were sold.
TSW has a major problem, it''s a story driven themepark mmo with limited content. FC promised monthly updates, the first one many players completed that day, most within 2-3 days leaving them with nothing to do for the next 30 days. Top end dungeons are boring and repetitive, pvp is horrible, thanks to the skill system there is no point ever rolling an alt and there is little in the way of exploration so there is little to keep gamers playing once they have completed the content which most seem to have completed in the first 2-3 weeks. So, why subscribe? To many people who bought the game this is the question and to many the answer will inevitably be don't subscribe. But, again, this is just more opinion, just like you I have no reliable or measurable facts to back this up.
Numbers talk and until we know those numbers anything else is mere conjecture.
Expresso gave me a Hearthstone beta key.....I'm so happy

SWTOR may not be "great", but it's certainly good. Good enough so that when people try it, they might be convinced to buy it.
WOW has a free trial as well, for similar reasons.
Eeeep.

I am one of those quitting early because
1) The movement is awkward. It feels like a 90's game with improved graphics.
2) The combat is ultimately boring.
3) The "skill progression only / no level" system seemed attractive and sounded good in paper.
But it turns out there are only so many "builds" (thus classes) that would work or you have built yourself an underpower toon.
4) They try to mimic a reality feeling but the quests are so lame that it's not realistic at all.
4.5) The quests are just lame.
