I already have guildwars, and i am thinking of getting WOW. And before u say nething i am no a GW fan boy who spams the wow forums. I am thinking of getting this game to. Wat does this game have that GW doesnt?
1. It's bigger. 2. It has more content. And more is added every patch. 3. Graphics are better. Animations are way better than in GW. 4. You can walk where you want to and not get stuck on some thread of grass. You can jump :P Smoother controls. 5.I think it supasses GW in most ways. Maybe not the PvP system. I think the PvP combat is funnier than GW 's PvP but the system of rewards and so isn't so great. 6. Main point. It's not instanced. You run around with people around you, not just your party.
Its hard to compare the two games, since GW is more like an action/sports game, which mainly needs player skill to be successful and PvE is just there to prepare you for PvP. If we are precise its even hard to say GW is an MMORPG, since virtually all of the PvE content is instanced. WoW is more PvE with (at least a bit) more detailed character development and generally more options for play. On the other hand its not that casual gamer friendly as GW. Gfx is a matter of taste. I like the Gfx of GW a lot, though I admit the character/creature animations in WoW are second to no game. So all in all the two games are very different to be compared, since the basic design idea of both games go into different directions, eventhough GW was made by the team that started to do WoW. Its way easier to compare WoW to AC or EQ or even EVE than to GW.

Designers need to move away from the old D&D level-based model which was never designed for player vs player combat in the first place.

Actually, on the GW site they say they are not a mmorpg. they are in fact a corpg. which is an acronym they made up. competitive online roleplaying game. And as for weather or not you should buy wow... i think ya should. come join the cult... online gaming is the best diet... forget 3 meals a day as you maul everything with a neutral or hostile tag across the countryside...
Not to hijack the thread but what is "good pvp"? I think pvp on WoW is great. The battlegrounds are a lot of fun, and real world pvp isnt that bad either. Can someone tell me exactly what "good PvP" is?

I realise that. I know i decide by myself, i am not trying 2 argue wat game is better. I am just trying to gather information so i can decide is i should get WoW. Good day!
WOW is fun if it is your first time playing. After reaching to 60, you'll spend your whole life trying to get the best uber gear in the game. And most PVP is in battlegrounds now. WOW has only 3 kinds of Battlegrounds: Warsong, Alterac Valley, and Arathi Basin. Right now, warsong and AV is literally dead..no one is playing that. Everyone's testing the new BG now. There is hardly any world pvp as others have stated. The class is totally unbalanced. The new patch makes hunter's pet overpowered etc. They claim it is balanced because they are taking about group PVP not 1 vs 1 dueling. This game is for people who have money and are serious hardcore players who has a lot of time. Like others have stated, WOW is just one big "Diablo 2" that requires monthly and I totally agree with that.

Its got loads of farmers who sell items to you then sell the gold on ebay ign etc.
Its got repetitive end game. get yer main char to 60 (10 days ) then try get him/her their armour set. Then lvl an alt and find that every class has to do the same thing.
It gets updated every three months with some new content, maybe a new instance and a couple of spells. Nerfs are more common.
Its fun to play at first lots of quest lots of items BUT everyone your class will end up having same things. Cookie cutter mmo .

WoW should be experienced for its very polished and fun PvE up to the max level of 60 (and a little beyond).
After that, WoW becomes one long grind-fest, whether for PvE or PvP. The PvP system is the worst I've encountered.
So, pick it up and enjoy it for a few months. Who knows? You may be like millions of others who apparently like treadmill grinds.
But if you're desire is for good PvP, WoW won't deliver.

The best PVP i played is in DAoC
