Diablo 3's real-money auctions attract get-rich cheaters

Really interesting article not just on D3 but the comments around subscriptions and how companies are looking to make money from alternative avenues. 

Was really freaked reading about the gold farmer handling 100 accounts.  That sounds like too much work even if he as making $90 an hour.

    Well...apparently there is a very rich guy who has 100 accounts for D3!

    I would love to know which games he was refering to. And didn't the real-money-auction house thing start in Korea before they scrapped it all and said it takes the fun out of gamming?

    Cheaters don't win. they may be on top but when the right time comes they will all fall down..play fair and enjoy the d3 adventure.

    There was a gold farmer interview where he explained the whole process. Some farmers buy 600 accounts or more. In the interview, he said that Blizzard was fully and 100% aware of all their techniques.. They ban them and implement bandaid-style fixes. Then, the farmers buy 600 more accounts.. rinse and repeat ad nauseum.

    So yeah... there is a certain massive chunk of boxed sale inflation happening for Blizzard in Asia.

    We always knew this would happen though if it involves real money. I bet there are factories in China going 24/7 365 making money hand over fist out of all this.

    I really dont understand the whole fasination with D3. I bought the game as I was a big fan of the previous 2, infact Diablo 1 was one of the first PC games I ever bought. I actually thought D3 was the weakest of the 3 in terms of story and plot.

    I played D3 and got to the end of the story to see what happens next, I have absolutely no interest in playing it over and over at harder levels or with different classes and I really dont see the point farming bosses or wasting real money buying virtual items on the AH.

    I would much rather spend my money on a nice pint down the pub than waste it waving my epeen about shouting look at me and what I have been stupid enough to waste my money on.

    Try thinking laterally and outside of the box, the success of real cash auction houses and the success of RMT traders will have an adverse effect on the future of gaming, not that its already started.

    Yes a lieing cheating douchebag who has ran multiple scam sites for account keys and gold over the last decade and been sued for 1000s by Blizzard in Markus Eikenberry  is a really credible source.

    most of the accounts are the ones that are hacked . you will be astonished to know that there is a guy in our country (pakistan ) who has hacked 70 accounts by now and he is gold farming . he is making thousands of dollars through it and people like us who are working day and night in offices are earning less than him :(

    Bah like to see em try, if....when blizzard add the PvP patch it runs on a match making system so I probably wont come up against players that outgear me too much.. thats the idea any way.

    Thanks for posting this up. It is really true that many people is taking advantage on d3 by scamming hardcore players. I hope blizzard will do some action about it. thanks for sharing it with us.
