To be honest its the first game I've been really interested in a long while. Its pretty much exactly how I would've imagined an ideal action combat except I would've added a GW1/MTG style deck building aspect to it. As it is the skills seem to be the same with every class.
But yeah... Looks good. Thought I should share.

Tot bad but the game is a lobby based FPS with no progression of an RPG. Plus the combat aniamtions look a little off and the character avatars look disproportinate.

Ahh, I was just about to click the link until you said it was a lobby FPS shooter, the genre that holds nothing that interests me.
This game doesn't have progression no, but surely you can see that it could be easily added. And you are looking at alpha footage.

Check it out for the style of combat if not the game. Aiming, wall-jumping...

It may be Alpha, but the game is supposed to be ready by November 2012.
agreed.. I looked at the link and it's just another lobby based game.. you might as well call it "arena" play.. That is what it put me in mind of.. The combat was no different then other games from what I could tell..
Sure progression can easily be added but only the Modern Warfare, Battlefield 3 kind, where you unlock perks and stuff. But it will never be considered an MMO, which is a big "no no" for a lot of people on this site.
there is already quite a few games that have that, aiming wall jumping and what not. Gunz is a good example of that. but this game just seams a bit lacking. you might argue that it is still in alpha and it can get better, but the problems that i can see should have been handled by the end of indev testing (before alpha.) from the looks of it it just seams to be a bit slow with too few options with each character. this is more of a fundimental flaw with the game and not something that can be fixed without reworking the entire game. but then again that is just my opinion.
Yep. Thats why I had emphasis on checking out the combat, not the game.
But I disagree on your take on progression. You could have a varying degrees of progression in a game like that, such as unlocking skills and abilities, characer level adding HP and MANA (naturally), modifiers to movement and jumping such as speed, lenght, modifiers to aiming and shooting; accuracy, power, speed, range.
Just how much is the question and what do you want out of the progression.

The devs make it abundantly clear on the kickstarter page that they have no interest of building this game around progression mechanics. That is not the type of game this is going to be. A smart decision in my opinion.
yea reminded me straight away when i read about it , like vindictus with pvp only. its a pass from me but definetly have its own fanbase to play the game.
candy detail ( skill icons looks too blunt, like on dragons age saga ) now this ofc only matters if you like everyhting what you look at but ofc dont matter to those who dont give a damn how they look
Someone posted about it in a thread last night and it does look good actually (if it ever sees the light of day). What worries me is this part:
"An Ever Evolving World - While our initial release will focus on core gameplay, Forge has years of development work ahead of it, post-release, that will bring everything from a persistent world to the first territorial conquest mode that actually works for new players and vast alliances alike."
It's going to be a hell of a progression to get to that without losing focus on the action combat element. If they do it then fantastic, but part of me thinks that it might be wiser to keep a tighter focus on what the game seems to be trying to achieve. Still I could (and I hope) I am wrong on that, as it does look really rather good.
The combat in and of itself looks very nice.
"Come and have a look at what you could have won."
For the love of god, how many times I have to write: I'm specifically addressing the style of combat here, NOT THE GAME.

but as you say , combat looks good enough if you dont mind the glitches of your characters lower body turns like master of the universe figurines, but then again its alpha and for alpha footage it looks pretty fluid.
In the post I quoted you talked about adding progression. Zylax talked about the lack of progression. That is what I replied to, nothing else.
Looks nice, but it is just a MOBA.
People touting action combat really need to add some sort of damage impact mechanic into their combat, doesn't matter what game it is, both Forge and Guild Wars 2 lack the mechanic for damage impact.
When a player takes a dagger to the back, or an axe to the shoulder, it should stagger the player momentairly, instead of the player's character not even recognizing that they've taken damage.
Example
On another note, those animations are absolutely wtf. They look ridiculous, it's almost as if the torso is locked onto your target, and your legs follow your keystrokes. C'mon it's 2012! I guess that's the price you pay for piggybacking on the UT3 engine.
Whatz up with all those gamez lately with a 'z' at the end ? Like Dayz, Warz, Gunz. Is it supposed to sound cool or some kind of leet language ? Is there anywhere a hidden agenda which promotes the usage of letter z ?
Concerning OP. Combat didn't look so great imo. If combat is your one and ultimate feature I wouldn't recommend MMO's anyway.
And for that reason not listed on MMORPG.com, I'd say.
But yes. Combat looks interesting. Unfortunately thats nothing special for non-MMORPG games these days. I'll watch it and see if they add stuff like interactive sorroundings or interaction with sorroundings (you know, grappling ledges, wallrunning... all that stuff that makes melee combat interesting in games like f.e. the Prince of Persia series).
But it probably won't happen. Vision is one thing, creative depth within that vision is another.
For what looks to be a skill-based PvP game, I don't want the sort of progression that would make one person inherently more overpowered than another. But anyway, you seem to want some developer to get this sort of combat working in a MMORPG, which doesn't seem to be happening. We are getting close, with games like TERA and GW2, so we'll just have to wait and see if some big budget studio clones the combat from Forge.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but, this is the same combat system that Neverwinter and Blade and Soul will have, except that Neverwinter has not wall jumping.
So this is like Warhammer: Wrath of Heroes, correct?
It does look like fun but I can't see myself playing it for very long. Plus the likelihood of them actually having an oceanic server is too low for me to even think about donating to their kickstarter. I don't even want to think what it would be like trying to play with 200 ping. C9 is bad enough.
Not sure about Neverwinter but it's definitely not like Blade & Soul. Blade & Soul's combat is more combo-based than free-form, which this game is looking to have.
Graphics looks nice. I especially like that it is NOT rainbow-cloured high fantasy or cartoony 'silly' style.
I think many players who like playing Arenas in mmorpg's and play mmorpg's mostly cause of arenas / structured pvp should take a great look on this project and have great and long fun with it. After all it cuts out parts of mmorpg they don't like.
Business model seem it will be B2P + frequent DLC's without cash shop (I am not mistaken right?) and thus look very attractive.
As for myself - I am looking for full fledged mmorpg's not lobby games so I propably will give it a pass.
Not cause it is bad game - contrary it look great. Just not what I am looking for.
Still for quite many people it might be a blast.
Would love this more 'realistic-like', without giant pauldrons and happy tele-tubbies or Shrek style in some mmorpg's.
Finally game that have graphic style that resemble UO or DAoC.
