EVE ONLINE GROWING AT A PHENOMENAL RATE

Surpassing 70,000 subscribers and 15,000 simultaneous users in the same game universe

REYKJAVIK, ICELAND – September 22, 2005 – CCP Games, an independent developer and publisher of massively multiplayer online games, announced today that since the immensely successful launch of “EVE Online: Cold War Edition,” the game has surpassed the 15,000 peak concurrent user record and smashed through the 70,000 active subscriber mark. This is a remarkable milestone for EVE Online considering the industry-wide decrease in MMOG subscriber numbers due to the impact of big-name entries into the genre.

"Despite the increasingly competitive environment following the launch of big-name titles this year, EVE Online has demonstrated consistent growth," says Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, CEO of CCP Games. "We regard this as a real testament of the game's appeal and longevity, and was clearly demonstrated when we released the latest EVE video (http://www.eve-online.com/download/videos/). The video was downloaded more than 100.000 times in 48 hours, and following that we have had a surge of new players, which still continues. Another important factor in our growth is that it is never too late for a new player to join EVE, as there is a place and role for everyone in the EVE universe."

The recent growth of EVE Online has been fueled largely by gamers defecting from other online games. CCP´s commitment to providing a dynamic, single, global-game universe plus user-empowering, demanding game play is attracting gamers seeking a deeper and more rewarding experience than what is offered by traditional online fantasy games.

“We are humbled and pleased by the success of EVE,” said Magnus Bergsson, CMO of CCP Games. “EVE is built on the ideal that games can be non-linear and require the gamer to be an active participant in the games evolution, and seeing the gamers acceptance of that ideal is all the reward we need."

About EVE Online

“EVE Online” is the forerunner of next-generation massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs) and is set in a virtual world of galactic magnitude that is governed by a hyper-capitalistic economy. In a universe of this scope, you are free to discover your own place, be it in the form of a humble trader ferrying goods from system to system; a despicable pirate preying on anyone foolish enough to cross your path; a heroic combat pilot lancing through the fray as you battle for your faction; or a mighty business tycoon leading a corporation with hundreds of employees. To accomplish any or all of this, your main tools will include a diverse array of sophisticated equipment, spaceships, and social interfaces, but you’ll also need a strong business acumen, cunning combat strategies, and often pure Machiavellian thinking.

EVE Online®: Cold War Edition puts the fragile peace sustaining the Empire territories at risk, as sovereignties secretly vie for advantage over their foes. Empires will unite to form pacts, old superhighways will be changed, and a new world order will start to take shape. Dozens of new passageways into the deep space regions will create unprecedented opportunities for both veteran and new pilots alike.

The new expansion can be downloaded from the EVE Online web site free of charge. For more information on EVE Online please visit: http://www.eve-online.com.

considering eve is a total remake of the browser-based strategy game TDZK (which has thousands of subscribers, and is the best browser-based game EVER) I dont doubt it. Although, just like its browser-based counterpart, it is a really slow start, and I HATE getting podded. Having to rebuild your ship, and everything youve gotten pissed me off in the browser-based one, and in EVE its just that much more annoying ::::16::

I'm pretty sure that the devs at CCP have never even heard of TDZK. So rest assured that EVE is a completely unique game, and not a "total remake" of some browser based game that 99% of the mmorpg community has not and probably never will know about.

EVE is actually based on the concept of ELITE.
and with the expansion codenamed "Kali" it will be possible to land and fly around on planetary surfaces.
which be even more like ELITE.

Kali will introduce new content, also Titans and Carriers, and parts of the code will be rewritten to reduce lag and optimize some procedures. Landing on planets won't be a feature of Kali. Iirc, then Oveur said that it will be at least 2 years before that will be done.

Also the original Elite didn't feature planetary landings. That was a successor. Aside from that, EVE has features of several games that I doubt you could point your finger and say "that game was it".

Well I must say congrats to CCP. I hadn't heard of the game till my mate downloaded the trial in about May, He had played it before though so wasn't that new to him. Now the team at CCP said that exploring planets won't be for quite a while if ever. They are concentrating more so on getting the gameplay all set for space with new ships and balancing, I am waiting for the carriers myself. Going to make the game a lot more interesting I think.

So anyway, I shall go off on this note, CCP, you've done a great job, keep it up and I will be playing for a long time to come. All hail CCP !!::::28::

    lol
Not quite sure what you want to explore planets for when there are so many other things to do in this game.
Its the only MMORPG I have ever been able to get into.

One shard, 15000 players online, loads of people to team up with / shoot at, alliances to eliminate, trading, spying, research, agent missions, player owned structures and outposts, complexes, building, capital ships, mining (to be avoided at all costs), etc etc

    What more could you want?

I've played it for 2 1/2 years and never looked back.

I never got to Elite, Mostly Dangerous was as good as I got. But Elite left a lasting mark. Then almost 20 years later, everything that excited me about Elite came drifting out of the Mist in the guise of Eve. Been playing almost 2 years now and am a hopeless addict.....

I'm glad about the success. I know there are noobs every day! We got some new guys in our Corp, so...

It makes me wonder if EVE is going to lower the subscription value. I know it isn't a pleasen't subject, but it is a little expensive for a Brazilian to pay. I hope to be able to keep playing for a while.

I've been inviting friends to free trials everyday. It's very cool to play with friends. My luck is to have found such a friendly Corp: Amalgamated Mining Corp in CAT. (advertising, he he)

Good luck to me! he he

I downloaded some EVE related videos, and I saw one of the developers saying he played ELITE and that he loved that game.

Well, I played ELITE a LOT. In fact, I got my first computer BECAUSE of that game. So I'm here now to say this: EVE is what Elite wanted to be years ago and MUCH MORE!!! Man, I am completely addicted to this game!!!! EVE really IS the best game ever!!! I'm afraid of it! ::::40::

I'm just a little nerd (since I play in a rock band and drink often with a lot of real friends, he he he) but I can imagine myself old aged trying to do level VII missions with my 9 torpedos lounchers mothership.

My wife lol when I say "Ok, just let me park my ship!".

Absolutely CONGRATS to Eve's creators ::::08::
