Age Appropriate Content

I have not yet purchased the game.  Planning to, but some questions...

I know the rating is M for mature, but we do not really use that as a guide for our child.  His actual age not-withstanding:  we explain drugs and alcohol, I swear like a sailor, and our son is okay with watching stuff like the Supernatural TV series. Within the context of the rating system, he's a pretty mature, and very well-behaved kid (compared to MANY others); based on what I have seen on youtube LP's I can totally imagine him playing the game.  HOWEVER, one thing we DO want him to remain sensitive about, is sexuality.

My question is:  does The Secret World have a content filtering option such as parental control for sexual content?  Also, just HOW much sexuality IS there in this game?  Same question about profanity (filter), too--hey, I'm ~trying~ to cut back :)

Thank you!

Only things i have really seen is stuff like
    http://youtu.be/2AXIPGLDdjk?t=3m15s

And the fact that everyone is running around with short shorts and bikinis..lol

There are no filters for cutscenes, but there are options for chat i believe.

The sailors and junk yard guys swear, there is some light sexuality in some dialogues, but it's not the focus of the game in any way. I think they just gave the game a mature rating because they didn't want to be constrained in how they portray the characters, not to show boobs. It doesn't get any worse than this scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNf6R4DcqqE

Liberal use of coarse language in a video game is a turn off for me personally. It makes the game seem juvenile, like they're trying to be cool with the kids or something. This game has that in a lot of cut scenes.

the only thing I can really think of beyond that video are the succubi in the hell "dungeon" instances are topless, which of course would make sense.  Didnt seem gratutious or pandering or anything like that.

If Supernatural is ok then TSW is ok. If anything there is a vein of similarity between the two and he may really, really get into and enjoy the game. Im going to bet he LOVES the investigation missions :D

While I can see where you are coming from can we at least agree that in RL "OH SH!T" situations MANY adults fall back on "colorful" expressions to get their point across?  Because IMHO in this case I feel the language they use IS appropriate to the environment they hoping to emulate.  Especially when not all NPC's use these type of expressions, just like in RL.

Ye, was about to mention the dragon scene in the beginning...

Other than those few cutscenes, there really isn't much of anything worth rating it M for, hell, they rate stuff M for showing a bit too much skin these days...

I understand why kids needs to be protected from certain things, but sometimes the reasons they rate things M is a bit silly...

All I know is, I probably saw more than I should have when I was a kid :P and I like to think that I turned out quite alright...

Yeah I'm more talking about some cutscenes felt like they were cussing for the sake of cussing. But I agree with you on context.

I'm about halfway through the game and pretty much all the sexuality i've seen is what would be termed "suggestive".  I've not seen any graphic sex acts or human nudity.  Some monsters appear naked.. especially the succubi.    As part of dragon society initiation your character receives oral sex, but it is "implied" rather than shown, so one can make the case that the pretty korean girl didn't actually give you a BJ but rather found your fly unzipped and zipped it up for you - much to your relief.

That being said, if you believe that seeing a boob will destroy your child, i'd just stay on the safe side and stay away.   I won't pretend to understand this type of mindset, but i've seen plenty of people (mostly Americans) get completely freaked out over the tiniest things (a.k.a. "Nipplegate") and if that is how sensitive you are, just be safe and stay away.

As far as sexual content, the strongest (and pretty much only) instance is implied off-screen blowjob/cunnilingus (depending on your character gender) in the beginning section of the Dragon faction storyline.

The only nudity in the game I'm aware of is some bare-breasted female monster enemies, but they are depicted in a non-pornographic manner (no ginormous jiggling knipple-knockers or anything like that) and it's hard to tell that they are bare without zooming in real extra close.

For profanity, there is a good bit peppered throughout the game, but it's never done in an excessive "look at all this cussing, we're so deep and edgy and mature!!!1!11" manner.

There is a chat filter option that astrisks out profanity in chat, but all in all the content shouldn't pose a problem IMHO.

Exactly the feedback I was looking for, thank you, all!

If this level of mature conversation is any indication of the majority of the playerbase, I look forward to enjoying good company.

Regarding the thoughts about destroying him for seeing a nipple:  I agree.  I think it ironic that we seem to shelter our kids from sex more than violence.  An anti-interpretation of "Make love, not war" perhaps!  However, that is the tip of a very tricky subject that I would like to avoid within the context of this discussion.

We have the answers we need, and I appreciate all your thoughts!

another suggestion to the parent, is to jump into the celebration weekend that starts tomorrow, play a dragon thru kingsmouth and see if anything is overboard.  If its a genre your son would like, I think he will really like it.
