now, firstly, before i start, i need to point out i hate my mouse.
secondly, i need somewhere i can vent some steam. hopefully if i dont get banned or post deleted, i'll have hopefully reached someone lol w/e
Thirdly, i'm sorry for this spam.
Now, Seeing as i live with my perents, and am between jobs, i have loads of time to label myself as a offical "Full Time Gamer", playing games like no other, heh, and to be honest... i'm bored.
Now, most of you would say "quit your whining cry baby, atleast you have games to play" well the simple fact of me being able to "play" games has nothing todo with it, it's my choices that are what REALLY gives me the creaps.
Most of the games out there, atleast, the MMOG side of games, are mostly revolving around medevil times or "fantasy" games.
now.. i dont mean to be a fool or anyhting, i can see how slicing some huge red dragon for a few thousand gold and enough exp to last you till you die can be great fun, but, the treky inside me demands more.
a sci-fi game is something that has to be jsut that, science fiction, to go beyond ourselves and reach into somethign we've never seen before, "..and what's that?" "huh? that? um, it's a gun" "just a gun? no, lasers or space stuff?" "nope, jsut a gun..."
see my point?
Now, i'm sure alot of you who have decided to stick with me so far are thinking "and this guy is loose in the world? wtf?"
well, thanks to the many wonders of life, yea. i am.
But back on topic, how does a hardcore full time gamer find his place? how can he find that one game that dosent bore him after 50+ hours of play, why is it so hard to fit in most gaming communities?
Most of the time i thought cause i was gothic or something, hell, i only wear dark clothing, but not cause i choose to, it just what i have. most of the time i'm silent, but as you can see, at times i'm not.
Sigh, how hard is it really? with all the new and commerial games out there, begging for cash like a grobbing newb in some game. when did they ever think about how hard it is for us, the "hardcore" ones, to find a game and stick to it, why do they think that having everything flashing in our faces will make us bite the hook?
Mabey i am going nuts, heck, i know i am, i'm just wondering why everytime i see a "CLOSED BETA" compitition or a "FREE GIVEAWAY!" banner, i wonder how many people who play those games know how i feel about it.
every closed beta, every giveaway, the same thing repeats itself, millions and millions of people (not jsut gamers) gather around to give some hot shot attention. It's like in grade school, some kid is giving away free candy, the whole class would swarm him, all gone, everyone's gone, waiting for more.
How long do you see yourself waiting for beta's? or giveaways?
months? years? what's the point of joining a beta when you know 9/10th's of the time it wont be even near finished, spoiling your view of the game.
what's the point of joining a giveaway when your so sure there are people inline infront of you, the "hardcore gamer types" that log on everyday, subscribing to everything, making sure they get there odds higher then everyone elses. and for what? another month of fun gaming?
Sigh... sometimes my friends wonder why i spend 50+ hours gaming, then sleep for 30+ hours, messing my life up, and the only reason i can think of, is "i was bored.."
mabey that's what a gamer is, a person who is bored and looks for entertainment within games.
so to be classed as a hardcore gamer, your basicly admiting everything in life bores you and you really really really need something todo. games.
now, i suck at writing. i sucked in school, i suck now. so i'm gonna give this a nasty ending.
The more i think about it... the more i wonder why the gaming universe demands the attention of every gamer, when all the gamer wanted in the first place, was something to do, something to look forward to.
heck, i'm 20 this octiber, no life, nothing, no gf, still a virgin, and i'm... really.. bored.
i've looked for things to do, 3d/2d design, pro beta tester, freelancer for hire (offline), loads of stuff..
yet. nothing could catch my eye...
so i leave you all with a question.
why do we embrace ourselves with the idea that a gamer is a "type" of person?
think about what i said, i know i will..

You're nearly 20. Give it another year or two. Soon you'll be wishing life was as boring as it once was. Or, if nothing else, in the ways it once was. A break from games, a snap back to reality, is always good for you. I found your post somewhat hard to follow, so here's my attempt at a reply.
I remember when every day, or at least weekend, was a simple choice of what game I wanted to waste my life on. And yeah, it got boring around 18, I'd seen every game type, played every level into the ground.
Hell, if you feel you lack a social life, go out and get one. We're not the gamers of the 70-80's. PC games don't require the massive amounts of technical knowledge that once made us all 'geeks.' I sport my monitor tan to all the clubs and do fine if I say so myself.
The hard part of being a massive gamer is the fact that a game that takes two or three years to develop usually takes up 1-2 weeks to grind into dust. They just can't make em fast enough for us. Hell, that's the reason I started bothering with PC gaming. Expansions and MMOs were my fix for outplaying developers. Something constant to keep me occupied, but even they get stale after playing a genre 6 times over.
But overall, it's like they say, if you're bored - you're boring. Make your own excitement. Raise hell, make friends, repeat when it all falls down.
I'm currently looking at moving to eve-online soon to try something different from the norm MMORPG stuff and I'm really really excited about twilight war coming out next year ...... that promises to be a great game if they get it right.
Chin up ....... you'll find your place in life soon ..... keep trying and don't get too down about it.
*cough* eve-online *cough*
Are they really out to get me?
Heh, Thanks guys, and your right, mabey i do just need to get into life, with that in mind, i could just follow me hobby as a 3d designer, know a few friends in school that could get me in.
and as for mmog's, well, sorry to burst your bubble, but, played eve, got immpatient, heh ^_^, might give it another go though, who knows.
Sadly, this wont be a long post, as i am tired and can barely type, Just wanted to say thanks for not flaming me on the spot, nice to see some people have more then just "omfglolbbq" in there heads, heh.
again, thanks...
LOL ...... nothing to flame
Just wondering if you play online on your own or if you play with others. I am part of a gaming squad called NoSkill and we all sit down and play online together, chat using voice and have a few beers. We mainly play Knight Online right now (Great PvP game but levelling can be a grind). We've got people playing EverquestII, WoW and Star Wars Galaxies and people are signed on most nights (UK Time although we've got a few US players too).
So if you are gonna get into a game then it might be worth doing a little research and seeing if you can find a group of people to share the game with. That way you are less on your own and it will make the whole gaming experience 100 times more enjoyable.
I've yet to try eve-online and there are two of us in the squad that will be looking to give it a go soon. I think it will be like most MMORPGs and that means you get out what you put in, and you won't get to know the game properly for a while. It took me several months to figure out a load of stuff in Knight Online and that's not that complicated a game
Anyway .... good luck dude.
