  It's happened ..... they're here...

I started out August the 2nd,  giddy ... excited that I would get to jump back into Guild Wars 2. There was much testing to be done on my Engineer, and I even wanted to really give the Necromancer one final shot before launch. I lasted about an hour and a half on my Necromancer before I decided I'd just enjoy what time I had trying to new builds out on the Engineer in sPvP. So I hop into a match with a mate who's recently switched to an Ele, he's building around AoE's so I quickly trait out to assist and we go bombing. The only thing that can push us off a point is a full team, simply put we have to much control for puggies to handle. Ontop of this i'm packing Elixir R so ... once down, not for long. ( I really think this potion is weak at this point compared to the other " Revive Ally " abilities out there ) After about an hour of matchs I notice light blue appearing on my screen... someone's sending me a message? It must be one of my friends letting me know he's made it and wants to join us. I scroll up my chat log, this messager is certainly NOT a friend of mine. What I see is :

Angry Person : Yo Kid you mad tryhard dum *****

Angry Person : Yah you ***** , go back to WoW  .. kid

To which I respond : Hmm? Excuse me?

Angry Person : What ***** u fat *** , go back to CoD you mad

Me : Did I kill you in a match? Sorry , its just pvp.

Angry Person : Tryhard what, angry I've yet to die you ******

Me : Hmm that can't be right, otherwise you wouldn't be this mad. Whats your name so I can aim for you?

Angry Person : I'm anrgy person , you truhard

Me : You aren't even in this match, so you must have left ... or you like raging at randoms.

Angry Person : What , u nob u msg me!

Me : /facepalm

They are here ..... my ignore list is going to fill up so quickly.

As much as I love GW2, it's hard for me not to think that the B2P payment model and the extensive pvp will attract a lot of children and adult children.

I'm trying to comprehend the ignorant mentatilty which thought this sort of thing would not be present in GW2....  People seriously thought that?

You just nailed the chief reason I have fought the Free to whatever, conversion for so long. =(

On the same hand .... I saw a player named " Killer Kony " who was greatly amused with himself and the off color jokes/comments he could make in regards to it in /map chat.

I really do hate so much about internet culture.

Were u expecting them not to be there?

MMO players play MMO's,whether theyre jerks or not they will ALWAYS be there.

    Clever.

I think the issue for me is, I never exspect them .... I have always held myself to a certain standard in online play. ( League of Legends doesn't count, that game is rage inducing) I wouldn't ever risk associating my Mmo persona with that sort of behavior for what I assume is a cheap pay off. Anyone else remember the days when GM's used to persecute the hell out of these types?

    I do =(

BWE1+2 had an awesome community. Trolls were funny and did not get mad or bash people, they were there to have fun including the devs themselves. BWE3 was terrible not only in class balancing, but the community were full of ragers. Stress test, idk but it felt better.

BTW, i gave up on my necro if this is a different build they used from BWE3. Its just too broken to play, and nothing was really fixed.

Anyone know if this was still the BWE3 build?

the F2P/B2P reason is moot, there's always jerks whether you have to pay or not.

F2P/B2P only increases it though im sure.

Should be possible to take screen and file a complaint for verbal harassment.

But seriously not sure why you responded to the guy. easiest way to get to someone is to simply ignore them. Proven method it always seems to get under a persons skin more then any words you can say.

Boredem breeds idiots. I sense old school barrens chat incoming. Blocking is the best action. Dont feed the tards and they will sstop. Or if you block you will not see it so it doesnt exist.

I didn't bother me *that* bad,  this thread is more me waking up ... that Gw2 will infact have those kinds. I hadn't really thought of it prior to the event ... I was pleased with the community. I think once you've saved someone from the downed state ... you think, theres no way that guy's going to go E-Douche on me.

Game just feels different, I hope the community polices because of this.

I hadn't expected it either at first but I adjusted that expectation on the way.

BWE1 had hardly any chat at all, and if there were conversations going on in map chat it were just things like questions that were replied to with friendly helpful answers or just chatting about the game.

BWE2 (first big key giveaways) in the human starter zone there was hours long chat going on about WoW and the mapchat was rightfully declared the GW2 version of Barrens chat because it had the same level of (jm)maturity, trolling and trash talk.

BWE3 I received my first stupid tells but not as bad as the OP's (but I hadn't been much in sPVP).

I think this speaks very positively for the real fans though that prepurchased the game prior to BWE1, in none of the many betas I've played I had seen such little crap and everybody being helpful as with GW2's.

The free trial folks and those just jumping aboard because of the hype and it being the next big thing ruined that and will probably continue to do so after launch (until they got ignored and reported often enough).

Thats where we have ingores for, and reports, if it gets to uggly just copy your chatlog and post it in a report.

I am actually wondering how arenanet is going to handle this.  Banning people means they need to spend another $50 to get a new copy of the game, in the end they will learn to behave. No reason not to ban people that disbehave, as there is no monthly fee keeping Anet from banning retards.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

    100% agree with you there.

Every game has immature trolls/idiots , but over the years I've found requiring a 50'ish dollar box purchase plus a 15 dollar a month fee seems to cut down on it at least some. And if you add in the hurdle of no game time cards and CC only it even did it more.

There are different factors I'm sure , I just remember in 99 in EQ the "trolls" that you actually had to put on /ignore for spamming chat were much less prevalent. I suppose having active paid GM's around in global chat that did on the spot bans helped also.

Seems like you are not used to trolls, anyone would have ignored him and moved on after his first phrase.

Any popluar MMO is going to have this... welcome to the online world.

But find it funny how people automatically think that these are kids.  These asshats are adults most likely as the most rude behavior I've seen are adults.  Kids, depending, show immaturity and more time than not I've played with a mature kid and more times I've came across an asshat prick adult than an immature kid.  It's funny how people in TSW are trumping their game as this mature adult game and yet seen as much immaturity there as I have seen in WoW.

That is why you belong to a Guild - you can normally ignore the tools in the game.

they are kids....what do you expect out of them

It's gonna be a F2P game..parents will pounce on this as to paying for WoW...*shrugs*

My GW chat box will have Guild Only lol :-)

GW2 might be the MMO of choice for the CoD crowd - /shudders
  • RedempRedemp Member UncommonPosts: 1,136

The interesting part is, Gw2 feels as if it will have more of a community than the past generation of Mmo's. With the inability to KS, rewards for assisting, and for reviving people ... the general feel is that of a helpful community. With this sort of community not seen for years, or in extremely niche games,  will the community be able to police itself? Who's going to assist those types when the server knows who they are? Perhaps the only punishment could be potentially no revives ... but thats atleast something.

Do you believe that perma bans are that common to make the case or think that people will buy a new copy because of 3 or 7 day ban...?
