This question doesn't really make sense. How can one know if the game will ultimately meet their expectations? It's personal expectations for the game here, it's always going to be different based on the person and they have no means of knowing whether the game will meet their expectations or not. You are asking a question that requires an answer that could only be obtained from the future.
I'd rephrase the question to did Guild Wars 2 meet your expectations from the last beta weekend? Or something along those lines.
But the question was more about a little brain-gymnastics and making subjective educated guesses based on ... anything really. If in your own personal mental space you get infinitely close to clairvoyant, that might just make for an interesting answer or two.
Originally posted by kasta I didn't expect much as I hated Guild Wars. GW2 exceeded my expectations because I found it to be fun.
I didn't hate GW1, but I wasn't happy with it either. I didn't like the henchmen/hero system, and I didn't like how everything was group oriented (especially in an instanced game). I think I would have had more fun in GW1 if I would have had more friends who wanted to play it though. It was about 2 years ago at gamescom when we saw gameplay demos when I got excited.
GW2 has met my expectations just across the three beta weekends. The game is solid and in good shape for launch. Content that was promised hasn't been cut at the last minute. It also plays differently enough for there to be a learning curve, but there's enough similarities where you can also just pick up and play the game. Crafting looks solid. Trait system looks in good shape for launch. WvW and sPvP are both working. PvE dynamic events are working. I never really saw a game breaking bug. I can't personally speak about mid-range content or high level content or dungeons. However, reading comments from those who reached the 30's and played through the dungeon that was available, there hasn't been overwhelmingly negative comments. Quite the opposite, there's been much more positive commentary.
On a more personal note; the game is pretty damned amazing with the fact that my wife is actually excited to play it. After being burned by LotRO and more recently Aion, she had all but given up hope that she would ever find another mmo to enjoy. She was very resistant to GW2, until she saw me still salivating to play during BWE3. She made a character on my account and played for about an hour before pre-purchasing her own copy, and then playing in her own beta account for the remainder of the weekend. What a great duoing time we had (which is something that's neglected fairly often in mmos).
GW2 is going to be a game that we both enjoy for years to come.
This poll does not meet my expectations. Please rephrase, retype and rethink your poll.
Question should be: DO YOU THINK GW2 will meet your expectation.
Its these final definitive questions and answer that inflate the troll problem. Make your discussion about opinion not fact:
I can say. Yes GW" will meet my expectations and a troll can flame me to hell for believing such a thing before the game is even released, however If I have said that I think GW2 will meet my expectations upon release, then a troll has no handgrips with which to flame me with tense logic.
If you continue to make sweeping statements like you know what everyone everywhere thinks about a certain topic then I am going to shout at you. It easy to type 'I think this is the worst game ever' Rather than the 'This is the worst game ever'
I have no idea if GW2 will. Too early to tell. I sure as shit know AA won't. After watching some videos with that game I really have to wonder about some that were fawning over that game. Some neat concepts to be sure but still...
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
what is AA doing on this poll? we dont even know almost anything about that game and is a sandbox game....
There are plenty of videos out there showing gameplay for those interested. Although the poll as a whole isn't done very well.

Most of the features I was looking forward to the game were already working and very fun in one or more of the beta weekends, so I'd say, yes, it'll meet them.
Archeage is not a viable competitor at all. It won't be released her for ages, if at all. To add it to the poll is vaguely trollish in nature, even though I like the look of the game. It's just not relevant.
To answer your question, yes, it has and will live up to my expectations. It's a great game developed by a great team of cool people who deserve the success. I've spent $60 on worse things.
It already has. Everything I saw in the BWE's met or exceeded my expectations and even if they only left in what we saw during the BWEs, it will have met my expectations as an incredibly fun game.
I'm excited to see how the main story line plays out and just about as excited to see how WvWvW shakes out over time.
I personally think Arenanet has a masterpiece on their hands.
You want me to pay to play a game I already paid for???
I voted NO.it wont meet expectations.they never do,do they. dont get me wrong i purchased the game but inevitably they never turn out has good as you hope...but saying that i hope i,m wrong.time will tell i suppose.
I said maybe, the only reason I chose this option was I really wasn't impressed with what I saw in the weekend betas, but then again I was expecting much more like players made it out to be. I guess the over hype bug bit me by most of the players that want to see this game released now. To me it felt like another themepark mmo when entering and not a real world I can escape to and make a difference long term like the experiences I had in DAoC, Eve Online and SWG PreCU.
I'm just going to hope for the best for GW2 when it releases, I got a few friends from work jumping into this game so grouping won't be a problem and I just fear it's going to be another mmo that I will add to my collection. Peer pressure always gets me, however it GW2 is just another typical mmo where it feels like a hamster wheel, there is always the Repopulation and ArcheAge to look forward to since it seems it has what I am looking for in a mmorpg.
If I know my expectations will be met, then are they really expectations or certainty? I expect the game to launch, I expect I will enjoy it to some degree, I expect it will work on my PC, but unfortunately I do not KNOW if it will meet these and others I currently have. I do know that I enjoyed the betas and stress test events.
Cheers!
MMO Vet since AOL Neverwinter Nights circa 1992. My MMO beat up your MMO. =S
Having played all three beta weekends and two stress tests, GW2 has met every expectation I had of the game. Now, keep in mind, many people have different expectations. What I expected was:
A persistant MMO set in the GW continuity.
A game that took ideas from other games and reshapred them into something a little different.
A gaming experience that was worth a 60 dollar flat rate and no sub.
Huge PvP battles.
In layman's terms: Not much.
What else I got:
A game that encouraged exploration.
Combat that is far above most MMOs on the curent market.
Game features that remove a lot of the tedium and help you stay focused on the fun.
That earned my staying on for at least several months. As long as Anet keeps new content rolling in at a decent pace, They have me for a long time.

LOL Archeage wont' fix anything. It's a sandbox game. I'ts completely different. Silly poll
I'm a little confused by the poll.
If somebody believes their expectations are not going to be met, why would they be expecting it?
You're basically asking people if they think they're wrong. That seems like a poll doomed to failure.
i voted yes.
i expect to get what i expect.
This.
If you are really interested in this issue, about a week after launch, you should create a poll asking "Did GW2 meet your expectations."
Since expectations relate to things that have not yet happened, the question you ask does not make sense.
Or perhaps you meant "Based on your experiences in past BWE(s), did GW2 meet your expectations?"
Or perhaps even "Do you think that GW2 will meet your expectations" in which case you are asking each person to predict for themselves.
"Loading screens" are not "instances".
Your personal efforts to troll any game will not, in fact, impact the success or failure of said game.
This poll does not meet my expectations. Please rephrase, retype and rethink your poll.

(Let alone the "random game x will fix it" joke)
Not that i think AA will fix or not fix anything but you are wrong on one account.
AA is a hybrid MMO and not a full sandbox game, like Vanguard it has themepark and sandbox features.
But yeah, this poll is pretty pathetic to be honest.

What can men do against such reckless hate?
My expectation is that it will be a grindy, boring game like every other MMO. So I voted yes.
