Say NO to ROBES!!

gessekai332gessekai332 Member UncommonPosts: 861

I hope that you can get armor sets in the game that are not robes as mesmer/necro/elementalist. Its one of the few drawbacks preventing me from playing a magic class. in traditional fantasy games, sure robes are fine because you are just standing around casting in place most of the time. it looks stupid in guild wars 2 because of all the jumping, dodging, running your character is doing. who would want to wear a bulky/heavy robes when you are being chased, spinning around and throwing thunderbolts while rolling on the ground to evade arrows/bullets.

Say NO to ROBES!!

Well, I'm a thief and having a robe as a thief is even more stupid... Of course it looks more like a coat, but i still want an armor that looks like something that Skyrim thieves, or WoW thieves (on low levels, not max level shit) are wearing. Tight leather/cloth armor.

Dude...are you kidding. Robes are the ultimate in bad-ass battle garb. They make two major statements.

1.) I don't need armor because you suck and are gonna die.

2.) I'm such a badass I can kill you wearing the same thing I wear right after a shower.

Shouldn't this shortcoming be fixed with the use of transmutation? Or are there simply no light armors that don't look like robes?

(Because judging from the female necro starting gear... that is not so.)

I don't think I've even seen a robe in this game yet. Is this a robe by the way?

dont forget he turns water in to wine as his weapon of choice.

Seriously though, do i want men in tights or men in robes.... One of the great existential conundrums

I don't have anything agains robes themselves but in GW2 the lower parts of some robes appear very stiff and very wide, they don't follow the contours of the body, which aesthetically doesn't look pretty.

I don't see many robes at all as I'm looking through a bunch of pics. Can you link some examples?

That depends on your personal taste in men, and you might want to take that discussion to another type of forum entirely image

    LOL yeah he sure does!

Anyways, talking about robes, I never liked them no matter what class I'm playing, armors look so much better IMO. Caster could have the option to wear some kind of ultra light armor instead of robes :p

The very first dropping light armor, farmer's whatever is not robes.  If you don't like robes, just transmute  that over your lvl 80 gear :) I hate the design of that particular set, but there ya go

Are these robes (click for larger image)? Crafted wool light armor set, lvl30+.

http://donoftheslum.minus.com/mboa3xzQ2x/ - From PvP armour, light, on female character. There is plenty of non-robe outfits there.

After looking through the elite armors it does look like you only have a few choices if you don't want to be wearing a robe.

Remember that you can always mix and match pieces from different armor sets. I've seen some amazing combos being created from a few armor sets that I'd never wear on my character.

To the OP...if you think rolling around in robes is silly....try doing it in PLATE.

Seriosuly, you'd break bones trying to move like that in full plate, if you even COULD.

In all seriousness though, most cloth sets aren't very....robe-like. There's a set called Acolyte or something like that which was a little robe-y. Also, I was amused and pleased to notice cloh sets that reach the floor all have divided skirts, giving you a LOT more range of movement. Another litlte nice touch by Anet.

Actually, properly fitted full plate hinders movement very little.

From my experience in tabletop RPGS and MMOs alike, robes = "That guy's a mage! Kill him first!!", followed by much painful stabbing.

Smart mages don't dress like Gandalf the Grey.
