I just remember back in DAOC and even WAR for that matter I never once experienced any of this in random pugs in dungeons or world groups. This was strictly for me a WOW and Rift thing and I hope it stays way over there with those terrible games.
What the hell? You either are the luckiest sob alive or didn't really pug in other mmos then. It certainly was not something relative to just Rift and WoW. I suppose one could say that type of mentality started to appear with a game like WoW but those types of players are everywhere.
Hell even in LotR which had one of the better communities in mmos you had those schmucks.
ha ! i swear to you that started in wow for me and back in DAOC i grouped in pugs daily because that was the only way to get good exp when you leveled back at release. Same with Warhammer Online I never once was rushed into doing anything in a pug except in pvp at times when it was needed to get their asap. I swear man it was wow and Rift that every dungeon finder group i was ever in was go go go pull faster you suck pull faster etc.
Oh...I agree it started with WoW but you'll find them in every game now. Obviously more prevalent in WoW than anywhere since it pretty much created that playstyle mentality.
I especially love when a game is brand new and you get some poor players in your group that didn't beta test it like the asshat ranting and raving for them to go faster and ranting at them for not knowing the dungeon like the back of their hand.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

Well, from the other side of the coin I absolutely hate it when people spend 5 minutes after each pull to take a breather. It makes no sense whatsoever. When I'm gaming I want to be making as much use of my time and having fun doing it, standing around simply isn't fun. I don't understand the need people have to take a break after every pull, especially in Guild Wars 2 where there is almost no downtime in between. Dungeons in GW2 FORCE you to keep moving due to traps and other mechanics, so if you are going into the dungeon with the mentality that you are going to be able to move slowly through it and do it casually, you aren't going to like GW2 dungeons. It's generally the reason I try to avoid PUGs as much as possible, because someone can't keep up with the pace and aren't pulling their own weight as a result.
Also, this "crowd" didn't stem from WoW. It existed long before in EQ. That's why the term "chain pulling" was commonplace in EQ. People wanted to do things at the highest efficiency possible. It would be rare to get in any group at max level in EQ and not try to make it go as efficiently as possible.
Explorable mode dungeons still took us a decent hour and a half to do even moving through rather quickly (and minimal wipes) so I can just imagine what a nightmare that would be in a PUG that wanted to sit and wait after every pull.
In the immortal words of Ricky Bobby, "I wanna go fast".
We will send all of them to this site to liven up the community. : P
Looks like they arrived early.
But on topic.
I hated those crowds(people) as well.
"Hurry up, I have to go eat dinner in 15mins!"
Ugg, don't frigging get into a queue in an MMO that has meat grinding...I mean dungeon grinding mechanics and expect everyone to be like you, a teenager on his first time.

I never ran into that problem in EQ. With the way camps worked in that game it was pretty hard for someone to go overboard unless you had some prick come along and train you.

Were you at max level? Every group strived to chain pull, especially after Kunark when mana regen allowed it. There were plenty of AoE groups too that would pull upwards of 100 MOBs at once.

It always seemed manageable to me though (well most times) considering what everyone had available to them. Not like you see in some newer games.
Although to be fair I played the game for so long I did tend to run with a pretty solid and set group most days. We picked up members from time to time but I didn't really pug like I do in newer games. Probably why it wasn't an issue for me.
I don't think chain pulling within itself is what people are balking about in relation to this reference. It would be chain pulling when the group you have clearly cannot handle or manage it that they're referring to. Which pending on the classes, game, and experience of the group as a whole makes it a viable or party wiping venue.

i know the go go go crowd will be here also especially after people start learning how to clear the content in dungeons . best thing to do is just run with your guild and with the level down feature more higher levels will likely be running older dungeons so thats a big plus there. But yes they will be in game and the best way to avoid them is find a guild with like minded players. I know in beta there was tons of fighting already in the area chats and world vs world chats so there is tons of trolls already in gw2 planning to play. /ignore is a great feature though.
That's one of my big pet peeves, the rush rush rush. I like to take my time. Sometimes i avoid groups not because I am necessarily antisocial so much as I just want to go at my own pace and appreciate the the artistry and level design.
lack of a gear grind doesnt seem to keep the immature kiddies from world of warcraft out of the game with how much talk ive heard about people who used to play wow or are playing wow that are going to be playing the game.oh well,i guess one day my hope of a mmo with a mature playerbase will get filled
