Badaboom likes this!
Actually in the hands of a skilled player the thief was a lethal knife last stresstest
The problem (which I think they are referring to), is that in many of the more offensive thief builds, if you don't kill you're target fairly quickly, you run out of initiative, and then can barely do anything at that point, as it takes a while for your initiative to replenish.
That said, there are ways to spec your thief to get much faster initiative gain, to a point where you can literally keep your initiative up indefinitely. It takes some of the bite out of your attacks, but it will keep your damage sustained for longer fights. It's definitely a toss-up most classes don't have to deal w/.
yeah. Im not sure why anyone thinks thieves are underpowered or overpowered. You just have to learn how to play them or play against them.
My complaints actually don't have much to do with class balance, but more to do with how it feels to play with compared to others.
Though I won't deny that I think they're moderately underpowered at the moment, or that my playing left room for improvement. I destroyed people with an offensively spec'd Guardian, but with the Thief... not so much, and I tried a lot of different setups. I could take 2 people at a time on the Guardian easily enough, but with the Thief, I couldn't handle more than one person.

I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote.
