Howdy, Stranger!

It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!

Would you play?

A game about Pirates, where you incarnate the Royal navy of your country or a Pirate?

Own a niceevil house on a pirate island, with your cutlass and pistol, sailing your boat while shooting cannonballs at other players?

All this F2P? Apart from a few item shop things, I suppose.

Would you?

And what would the name be? I was thinking Pirate Quest, something snazzy.

There are pirate base MMOs (POTBS for example). What is the differene between this one and the one on the market?

    Very good question!

I'm still working on that :P

I thought maybe the combat could be more dynamic then spamming all the skill buttons at random, and it could be more realistic (your ship can sink), better PVP. And (is it in POTBS?) the ability to take people's ships by boarding them and killing everyone.

Each time you die, you have a chance of getting a scar or a wound. They can be various, to small scars over the eye, for example, to completely destroyed eyes (have to wear an eye patch) and missing body members! (no leg = artificial leg)

But we shouldn't make it too cool to have all these scars or people will die on purpose. Having a hook for hand has it's advantages and disadvanteges (can't dual wield), artificial leg's (EX: Wooden) slow you down, etc...

In that case, let me offer some advice.

The key to a good MMO is

    1) the combat system .. it has to be fun, with interesting mechanics, and synery between toons.

    2) progression

    3) easy to group ... preferably with grouping tools

In your case, think about a more actiony ground combat system. Because of the setting, you probably cannot do lots of fantasy like mecahnics (like teleport, elemental attack, AOE, ...) but there are still things can be done .. like "adrenalin activated skills and do a super shot, or faster reloading). There are some room for good combat design with different melee weapon types.

Sales vessels are obviously slow ... may be you can do a more tactical sim type system.

Well, it will be more of a mystical type of Pirate game. You will have teleport drinks, resurrection drinks (to avoid XP debt/scarring/wounding), rejuvenation drinks (to get rid of debts/scarring/wounds)

For the combat, I thought a more unique slash and hack type combat system. What feels more piratey?

Running around swinging your sword, not as a skill

    OR

Spamming the number pad for skills like "65355323232652652636558263286562526546236523652368523.6520"

    Progression would be... Levelling?

    Grouping tools are simple.
