Guild Wars 2 might be the first game that turned me into a altoholic

TorgrimTorgrim Member CommonPosts: 2,088

I'm that kind of player who always have one toon and focus on that.

Why you might wonder, well first i'm getting somewhat attached to my toon and secondly most MMOs you have to take mostly the same route.

In GW2 all classes are fun to play maby not the ranger but only got one up to lvl 11 but that's besides the point, I find classes fun extremly fun even,  I can't  help myself swapping back and forth, that's the first sign for my becoming a altoholic.

The other part is you have several starting zone for each race and a personal story for each race and within each race there is several outcome depends what choices you picked when created your toon.

And last, the DE's, sure I can do them on my main but doing them with the other classes is really apealing to me.

So yes I see myself being an aloholic.

How about rest of you, you got the same feeling?

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.

I am the same as you... normally I decide on one character and focus on that. Sometimes I even re-roll my main if I decide I dont actually like it after all, but never actively play more than one character....... but I think GW2 is going to change that for me too...

I played all 3 BWEs and 4 out of the 6 stress tests so far, and my main goal was to try to find which race and class I was going to play at launch.... but every time I played a new character I liked them, and changed my mind.

I have now narrowed it down to 3 which I will play on launch. Over time I may decide I like one more than the others, but at the moment I just cant choose.

So.... launch day, I will be rolling:

    Charr Warrior

    Human Ranger

    Sylvari Mesmer

Cluck Cluck, Gibber Gibber, My Old Mans A Mushroom

Only two classes I won't be playing at launch are necro and mesmer. Might play necro instead of gaurdian, still not sure. Decisions decisions....

I have allways been an altoholic, hoping that Guilwars will change that for me. So far i decided on 2 classes, a main and an alt. That should be enough for a casuall player.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

The lack of a gear grind also makes alts more appealing to me, in your average mmo whenever a new tier or something arrives if you got an alt you now need twice the effort to keep both of them up to date.

^ I love ALTS but in so many games it's pointless for me because I hardly ever have time to grind out gear on one character let alone multiple. But now I can be competative in any class and not have to spend months grinding just to get to that point.

Especially with sPVP.   I mean I know we don't have to raid over and over and hope for upgrades at level cap like WoW or something in PVE, but you do have to put in at least SOME effort gearing yourself.

But hell, in sPVP you can just roll a new character and after taking some minutes fiddling around with traits, sigils etc in the lobby you're good to go.     Might as well have 5 characters.

The glory and rank from sPVP is even accountwide so you can raise your spvp rank for your whole account regardless of which character you feel like playing that day.

Guild wars 2 will definitely make you an altwhore. Guild Wars is the. i repeat THE, only game where I have made more than 2 characters to max level.

In guild wars I had a Monk, Necro, Assassin, warrior, mesmer, ranger, elementalist ,dervish, paragon. All max level all 15k armor all dope weapons all pvp ready. Only a few war ranger and necro did I ever fully complete all campaigns with.

I know guild wars 2 is going to be the same for me. Every class is just, wow. They are all so unique and interesting. For GW2 im torn between Warrior, necro, mesmer, thief. I love war types, necros, and mesmers were baws in GW but its soo confusing on what to start with!

+10 here ...my characters will depend on my skills ...not me grinding for gear for each one over and over

already was an altaholic. I had two GW accounts effectively full of different toons.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.

    I'm going to partially disagree.

I plan on rolling a Sylvari Engineer as my main.  No questions about that, set in stone.  The amount of depth and combinations available with professions, skills, and traits becomes so complex in this game that the re, re, replayability is so high that I'm not sure when I'll actually get tired of playing my toon!

However, I know that I will be dabbling with my other 4 slots just to see what else the other professions have to offer.  My secondary choices are Charr Elementalist, Asura Guardian, and lastly, Charr Thief.  I really feel that the Thief will be very fun to play, simply because it uses a different mechanic of initiative instead of recharge for weapon skills which makes the play style very different.

But I understand why most of you are feeling the altaholic pull.  I cant deny that I haven't spent hours on website calculator on all of the classes (except Ranger and Necro :D)!

    Enjoy your alts :D

I'm already an altoholic, always have been really.

GW2, however, is the first MMO I have played where it is set up such that I won't see exactly the same content when leveling alts, so I am really looking forward to that aspect of the game.  In so many ways, GW2 makes me feel like the sat down and said "Let's design an MMO just for Jag."

Also, lemme just point out you can level 3 different toons to 80 without ever repeating a map :P

That's one character for each order in the game, which means you can have a vigil dragon fighter, a durmand dungeon crawler and a order of whispers shady spy

4 if you gather crafting mats on those three characters and send them to the fourth to level up crafting professions.

if you can get one character max in all crafting that character will be max level just from doing that.

Add one more, considering you can level a toon from wvwvw alone.

This is the reason number one for me. Mostly I play one char and alt or two, mostly used as mules or crafting.

I have always been an altholic and in GW2 this wont be an exception. The classes in GW 2 are very interesting and I am looking forward having my 5 slots occupied since the very beginning.
