For the standard editions, the contest asks applicants to write a 100 word paragraph describing the background of a Guild Wars 2 character. Sounds easy enough.
For the Collectors' edition, they ask for a RL photograph that includes a logo. The submissions so far telegraph that competition isn't too high. It is worth a shot, unless you are eager to spend 150 bucks/euro.
The website has been around for some time and is supported by the game's developer. Truth is, you'll have to verify that for yourselves. It's not a giveaway, it's a contest.
