    They did the same thing right before the first BWE. It has to do with server capacity. They are launching with a set number of server for pre-purchasers and it seems like they've reached their limit.

    Edit: also, I just tried to buy a copy and don't get a soldout message.

    sold-out might be a poor term, but the idea that there are a certain number of digital purchase accounts coupled with expected physical purchase accounts that make up their launch day capacity, it could just be an indication of decent planning. Alternately, we get the massive number of launch servers and subsequent consolidation. There may still be consolidation, but perhaps this is just an attempt to balance resources. I might just be an optimist too...

    edit: for what it's worth, seeing the sold out notice for all but the collector's edition on the buy.guildwars2.com site

    The no access to head start after August 8 thing makes no sense when the Guild Wars 2 website says pre-purchase now for head start access and bonus items. 

    Also the store seems to be restocked as I can go through the ordering without getting a sold out message.

    You can still pre-order in stores so do that if your worried about it. Im excited to see  the sales numbers! It will be interesting to see the retention rate three months in...
