Hall of Monuments farming question

swarmofsealsswarmofseals Member Posts: 16

I've been working on my HoM in anticipation of release (just like a lot of you =) and have managed to get myself to 15 points. I'm now focused on the next 10, which is going to involve a lot of farming for armor sets, weapons etc.

At this point, basically all of the resources are fungible. Just about anything I need can be bought or sold, which means that the best approach might not be to directly farm the exact materials I need. I'm wondering what you all think the best way to approach this would be. My character is fairly new, but I do have a lot of heroes unlocked and am using some actual builds with those heroes. I don't have all the gear optimized though. Power trading is not an option for me as I don't know the market. I mean, if someone wants to give me detailed lessons I'd be happy to learn... but barring that it's probably a bad idea.

So how should I proceed?

I been at it off an one for a year, have 11 unlocks. Still havent completed Factions or Nighfall campaigns. Not a single pvp, weapon, or armor unlock either.

hero armors have been fun to get so far, and seem pretty quick. Theres a few guides on the wiki, for a range of different methods to 30-50 unlockers.

I got to 30 HoM points 3 weeks ago so I might be able to give you a few tips. I had limited campaigns only Factions, Nightfall and Eotn so it was a bit harder for me.

I was stuck at 15 points like you were and the only way I was able to move forward was to farm ecto in the Underworld on my sprit spammer Ritualist. it's going to take time to get used to how things work there but you can get 100k with 14-15 Ecto with that you can buy miniatures, armor and weapons needed. Skip the vabian armor it's too expensive go for Kurzick or Luxon buy what you need to make them.

Also try to finish ever mission with a master rank you get a title for doing that. Eotn hero armor are the cheapest to buy so you might want to get those first.

I got all 30 in 3 months with no help whatsoever so it's possible.

link me your HoM or give me your char name, also do you have all campaigns? Basically for me to help you I need to know where you are. I got 33 pts in I think 2-3 months without farming mats at all, by just playing the game.

Thanks for the replies all! Character name is Syrah Alhazin. I have all three campaigns and have unlocked most of the "easy" points. In order to proceed I need to start putting together armor sets, weapons, or farm large numbers of titles. Armor sets and weapons cost quite a lot, so I'm mainly looking for ways to farm money efficiently.
I'm a ritualist spirit spammer and have moderately developed heroes. I've gotten some of the bread and butter elite skills like Aura of the Lich/Flesh Golem, RoJ, Panic, and Unyielding Aura but I haven't kitted anyone out with insignias and such. Currently I am using max AC armor and weapons from campaign completion.
If I can survive in the underworld then farming ectos might be a reasonable way going forward. Is it better to do that than to farm gems in Anguish? Or just farm feathers?

Take a look at my account Radamanthys Wivern, I believe those are the easiest 30 points u can get IMO. I got them in about a month or so, companions you must reach 30, these are easy hero armors for the most part, mainly you want to beat factions and nightfall on master, and also beat eotn.

After that you want to go to prophecies and do War of Kryta but you will need good heroes, I recommend searching a build player hero support and get your hero skills as they will make a huge difference. War of kryta will pretty much guarantee an oppressor weapon, the destroyer weapon you will most likely need to buy it.

You also want to get your Moa pet and Moa mini, mini is a little tough as you have to go through part of prophecies and into sorrows furnace and also gather items from the different campaings, once you get the moa chick done you can also conquer sorrow's furnace for your 5th title.

Minis aren't tough to get around 5k a piece, get around 30 commons and you should be good.

Lastly you will need the armors to complete your HoM, this is the tough part as you need a way to make quite a bit of plat specially for the vabbian armor and kurzick. You could try to get brotherhood armor if you have good heroes and sell them for 5k a piece along with any good drops you might get, you could also try to farm zaishen keys in jade quarry but i found it quite boring, keys sell for around 6k ea now and you can earn both balthazar and imperial faction that you cant rade for balthazar for more keys.

Anyway the road to 30 is stuff and could be frustrating specially starting out when you don't have good hero builds, after you get your hero builds missions become much easier, some you will need help so dont be afraid to ask people, there's always someone willing to help just might take a little bit of asking.

    Good Luck.

Remember... all I'm offering is the truth. Nothing more.

Heey! Hope I'm not too late for the party :)

I see you have no weapons/armor dedicated yet! It's not as hard as it seems, really.

    Here are some tips:

    - Do War in Kryta + Hearts of the North: that'll get you 2 oppressor weapons, dedicate one and sell the other for a destroyer weapon. Might be cheaper to buy the diamonds and make one yourself.

    - Get only the cheapest armor: Marhan's Grotto, Granite Citadel and EotN reputation sets. Then, IF you think you can, go for Luxon.

    - Do the Black Moa Chick miniature quest: you need access to all campaigns, but it's cheaper than buying a unique mini.

    - Points by order of price (cheapest to most expensive): Shiro miniature (rare) > Opressor weapon > Destroyer weapon > First 20 white miniatures > Luxon Armor > Tormented weapon > [Vabbian and obsidian armor (forget those 2)]

    - Forget the PvP zaishen title, that's 1000 platinum. Sell all your zkeys.

I got the money for 30 points just by doing War in Kryta + Hearts of the North on three characters, and then selling oppressor weapons for 100k and war supplies for 400g. Also, you'll get royal gifts. Try selling the gifts for around 5k. It's a hard sell, but it's worth it. If no one's buying, then just open them and sell whatever you get from them.

You can totally reach 25 by launch!

I cant access HoM atm.. its down or something, basically the easiest points are your 8 in fellowship, 20 minis and doing all the campaigns including bonuses, then work on them on HM. In EOTN do EVERYTHING, the EOTN mastery title will help you a ton there and MAKE SURE you have Light of Deldrimor on your bar when you do the dungeons. I got SOOO many of the gems needed for the cheaper weapon from them. Make sure you salvage anything metal or stone including harvesting highly salvagable mods of crappy weapons and putting them on ones that will salvage better. There is no need to grind titles to get the 30 pts, oh and go get all the elite skills, that was pretty fun and worked in with vanquishing zones. This will also help you get your mats for your armor... make sure on armor you only get the cheaper sets as the mats for the really rare ones could be sold for more points that they offer. http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Prestige_armor is your friend, SO MANY sets cost very little to make, also you dont need to helm so save your money. That comes to another point, I dont know what prof you are but there might be cheaper ion mats sets an alt can use and dedicate since the HoM is shared.

ok its up again, so make sure to get your last 2 points in fellowship and 16 more minis which is pretty easy http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/mini-pet-list-t10455543.html at the bottom in that thread is a printable checklist.

http://hom.guildwars2.com/en/#page=main&details=JAAAA8%2F%2F%2F%2FD47%2F9zvo%2FAAACAAKIAAAAAXKEIQAAAAAA in my HoM so you can see how I did it and http://hom.guildwars2.com/en/#page=main&details=JBIBA8%2F%2F%2F%2FDAgQkAAoPAAAgAAgAAAAAAPEIIQAAAAAA is a friend that I helped with, she went for the armor more.

Anyways good luck and PM me if you need any more help.

I disagree with only one thing here, royal gifts, use them.. I got medals out of them which it takes 10 medals to get one Opressor weapon.

OH! just remembered something, make sure you check the runes on the armor scrap type drops to see if they are worth anything to the rune trader.. I made a lot of money this way.

Farming ectos is a good way to go, especially if you're a SS. Unless you're really efficient at farming feathers. I looked at your HoM and here are a few suggestions.

Finish all of the campaigns and the expansion and get the protector title.

Get a nice build for your team. Discordway is probably one of the easiest to use and works great pretty much everywhere.

Get the black moa chick. You can solo it yourself. This also gives you a title for finishing Sorrow's Furnace.

Get all of your heros and the armor for them. Get the black widow spider from UW. All of this can be soloed.

Oppressor weapons are probably some of the easiest to get in the game. Especially if you farm a mission called "Rise" from the Hearts of the North story arc. Rise also gives you Ebon Vanguard rep which will give you a title if you max it out. It also takes about 7 minutes to complete and rewards you with 1p.

Destroyer weapons have the cheapest mats.

You can also run Fissure of Woe. It takes about 1 hour to complete and gives you some nice rewards and a title.

Get a few cartography titles. Aim for 10 total titles.

This should get you to about 22 points.

Then just farm for ectos or feathers and Rise for money and oppressor weapons. Get a few armors and some minis and you should get 30 in no time.

You see, the weapon is 100k. Thus, a medal would be worth something like 10k. The royal gifts have a 11% chance of dropping medals. So, if you sell 20 gifts for 5k, you'll get 100k. And if you open those 20 gifts, you might get only 2 medals (worth 20k in total).

Of course, luck is involved, but why play with luck when you can get a good solid price for the gifts?

because the medals are soulbound and trying to buy war supplies is a pain, plus there are other good things you get from the gifts, seems like a waste to sit in town and try to sell them when you could be out playing the game and getting just as far or farther

Make sure to pick up your free Z-keys if you haven't done so already, here's a short rundown how to do it:

    http://www.reddit.com/r/GuildWars/comments/ql04k/free_zkeys/

To farm war supplies once you have done Hearts of the North you can do this quest very fast and its repeatable:

exactly, the medals are soulbound. Let's say you got 3 from the royal gifts. You're still gonna have to buy/get enough war supplies for 7 more medals, and then try selling the opp weapon in town anyway. I find it much more effective to just sell the gifts, it's an easy extra 100k for each time you do WiK

Also, gifts have like a 20% chance of dropping a salvage kit. There's nothing worse than getting a salvage kit and knowing you lost 5k lol

I am in a similar place,

I have been playing for about 1 and a half to two months now, but I started on a level 9 prohecies character I had from over 5 years ago with numerous other low level characters made and never played with. So I had a lot of mini's to start off with.

I am on 15 points I have all campaigns completed but not to protector titles.

How I will procede should net me about 20 points for release over the next two weeks maybe more if I can farm some extra armor and weapons.

I have 10 mini's already including a rare but not a unique. I have 3 titles from the campaign completes and a full display of heroes including a unique pet and of course a pet statue. One destroyer weapon and no armor sets.

I am abotu to get my black moa chick all items collected took about 3 hours to get everything for it now set on completing the rest of that for 1 point

    16

I will then complete protector titles which are almost done on factions and nightfall I think I have about 4 missions to replay to get those which gives me a full display in titles and 3 more points

    19

Next I will complete GW Beyond to get at least 1 opressor weapon

    20

I will then try and craft elite luxon armor I have a bit of plat left so should be able to buy half the mats before refamring more cash to by jadeite (cheaper than amber).

    22

from here it gets expensive or more time consuming, I either buy 9 more minatures for another 2 points, or I collect hero armor for another 1 point for 9 more heroes collected. Alternatively I can try for 5 armors or a termentor weapon..... I plan to revisit and complete 30 points after release.

I hope this might be of use OP and anyone else. overall getting from 0(3) to 15 took a casual 2 months of play (warrior starting level 9 in prophecies all campaigns owned).

the 8 fellowship points are the cheapest and easiest to get, work on that first. Also go to my linik in a previous post, armor is cheaper in most cases.

@Matheusor1 I still disagree =P to me if you get medals it shortens your farming time on other things, I dont see the money as worth it and the time spent trying to sell them in town. We will just have to agree to disagree

Thanks for the advice I was thinking about this, I think I'll do this after GW beyond and before the luxon armor so that I can earn some plat as I grind out the various hero armor components. Thanks I'll check the link too.

Me and a guildie both didn't roll a Ritualist so we couldn't cheese the game.  We found Obsidian Shard farming in Fissure of Woe to be pretty reliable.  About 3 hours per run.  Typical run netted 25-50 plat worth of mats.  Ectoplasms in Underworld was doable but not effective since we would wipe frequently there (we had weak builds).

    Our path was as follows:

5/8 Devotion - Rare + Unique Mini (there is a quest for a Black Moa Chick pet that takes about 8 hours or so to complete) + 18 others

8/8 Fellowship - Farmed all the hero armor except Primeval Armor Remenants which we just bought.  We tried doing the challenge mission for the alternative armor pieces, but it was taking too long to get those pieces and we found it faster to just buy them.

8/18 Honor - Though we completed all the bonuses of two campaigns, we found you don't have to complete any bonuses as the Black Moa Chick quest line gives a title and so does completion of Fissure of Woe.  We also completed the three campaigns + EoN campaign.

6/8 Resilience - Luxon (or Kurzick), Vabbian, + 3 other armor sets.  Vabbian is probably the most expensive point here.

3/8 Valor - Since we completed EoN we traded mats in for a Destroyer Weapon.  We also completed the War in Kryta quest line for what basically amounts to a free Oppressor weapon; however it may be better to just have someone purchase this for you for around 90-100 plat and dedicate it for the point since the quest line takes a while to complete.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks again all for the replies, and a special thanks to whomever it was that mentioned Discordway. I had never heard about that before and spent some time yesterday putting together a hero group using that approach. I used the standard 3 necros plus a panic mesmer, 2 RoJ monk/mesmers, and a random other hero. Once I got the target caller skills (I went for the assassin elite skill as recommended plus "you move like a dwarf", technobabble and pain inverter) I switched out the random hero for a spirit spammer spec. I haven't actually tried it with the full setup yet but the incomplete setup was seriously melting face compared to what I was using before!

I do have one major question about Discordway, however. A friend of mine who is very experienced in the game said that the build basically doesn't work in GW: Beyond. He says that War in Kryta and Winds of Change mobs just dispel the conditions too fast for discord to really be effective. Do you all find that to be the case? Or is it still viable?

In War in Kryta you're usually limited to 6-man parties, so that's a cut back. But there are several builds besides discord that work fine. Just make sure you bring a panic mesmer. Also, in some missions (specially the last, the one you defend lion's arch) bring minion masters with aura of the lich, there's easily 400+ exploitable corpses on that quest.

About Winds of Change... ugh. If I were you, I wouldn't even bother. WoC is meaningless HoMwise and is possibly the hardest bit of content right now.

if you started WoC and want to end it, not to far into the questline you can turn it off.. will save you a lot of hassle with it.

A couple of things to note:

    1. DO NOT BUY A DESTROYER WEAPON. There is absolutely no reason to do so. At the moment, even with the increast cost of Diamonds and granite, it is still 20-30k cheaper to buy the mats and go get your own.

    2. I'd suggest using a Sabway trio for WIK along with 2 Mo/Me healer/interrupters.

    3. Someone else mentioned it, but just to reiiterate get your free 60k from free zkeys from tournament points from Zhang or whoever in the temple of Balthazar in the battle isles.

Another good way to get money is to do the Nicholas the Traveler trade ins every week and sell the gifts without opening them. (see the main page of wiki.guildwars.com for info on Nicholas and what he's taking this week).

And just FYI: http://argos-soft.net/GwEstimator/ is a very useful site for quickly finding out what an item is going for at the moment (be sure to look for WTB and WTS prices).

I used an SoS ritualist. First I picked up my z keys from balthazar sold those for 55k, to seed me. I funded myself and my husband doing 3 things. There are probably better ways but, in about a month we had our 30/50 HoM points. I bought (UNDED) minis for 2-3k each (A lot of times I got gold and purple ones as well as the white) and resold them for 5-45k each and when I didn't have any to sell from buying I went to ToA in Heroic mode and farmed plant fibers and gold items. Remember sell your gold items to players not vendors since players want the points for Id'ing. Also I'd buy sunspear stolen armor for 5k and sell them for 10-15k to players.

Its not hard to do, I made it to 30 in 4 days, it was easy.
My advice is to get 1 of each weapon kinds, 5 armors - 4 eotn and luxon or kurzick, anyone saying luxon/kurzick isnt worth it is just wrong, its not expensive, you can farm the jade/amber in jade quarry, it wont take that long and the rest can be gained from salvaging everything you get while doing elite missions. Do all the elite missions that get you a statue, they aren't hard, just get a good team. Do DoA runs, you can get a lot of gems there, tough to sell sometimes though, trade only in kamadan and when its one of those spamfest days, thats when you get the best deals, also try to do some power trading, search around for the average, minimum and maximum prices, get all deals with below minimum prices the second you see them, they wont be there for long. Sell at maximum or a little below maximum price. Its not very hard, I made 500k in 2 evenings by power trading. Remember to haggle, people aren't willing to pay more very often, but they are often willing to go down in price unless they are power trading too. Try to offer much less than you are willing to pay and go up but dont appear to be eager to go up in price, same goes for selling.
