Question

jimmyman99jimmyman99 Member UncommonPosts: 3,221

Hi folks.

I played EO awhile ago (approximately 4-5 months ago) and although I love this genre, there were things that I hated a lot and those things made my EO experience less and less enjoyable, so I never stayed in EO for long.

I was lucky enough to meet a realy nice and generous person who helped me out a lot with advice and items/money. But, things soon began to be boring and routine. All I did was mine, sell ore and occasionaly fight pirates. I did not join any corps because I didnt know which one is good or what to do once i did join. Travel was a pain becuase I tried to buy some weapons but they were very far away from me, so i had to travel to pick them up. Tried doing some NPC quests, but they were boring. Never realy got into manufacturing becuase I didnt realy know what to produce and if its worth it. I pretty much stayed above 0.3 and never seen any PvP.

If i were to resubscribe to EO, id probably fall into the same routine and burn out in 1 month. So, the question is, what can I do in EO if i were to buy another month? I have a 3rd type of ship after the beginner one (i think its a cruiser?) and I have an industrial one too for mining/hauling. Id preffer not to engage in PvP because Im new at it and would probably lose everything I had and wouldnt be able to play EO again.

Any hints?

Thanks

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

Buy another month for your previous account, continue training that character and join a corp that will assist you. Go to the recruitment channel and say you would like to join a corp that will help you get familiar with the game. Reading the guides, fine, but meh. I'm learning more from my corpmates than anything else and it is a lot more fun than reading something online.

If it were that simple to find a quality corp that has a decent ammt of people online between 00:00 and 04:00 EVE time that will take a player with <1mil SP under their wing I would still be playing.

Just because you can't find friends to play with because you whine a lot is no reason to spam the forums. If you had any patience you'd realize you can get near a million sp while still on your free trial so by the time you finish your first month you will be past that mark. There are a lot of quality corp out there and if the first doesn't work leaving a corp and joining another is very easy.

    Hello Jimmy,

My best advice is that you join a corp. The corp im in is moving out to a 0.0 sec system right now, but we still have bases in empire space, since we have been thru some wars(pvp) and are a bit tired of it right now. If you decide to join EvE, please get in touch with us and we will help you as much as we can. We players from the EU and US, and some from Australia.

You can get in touch with us by joining our public channel star control or mail Tal Mordin(CEO) or Mjoelner1 ingame. Or if you see me flying just send me a mail image

    Best regards

Actually in the 'free month' period you can only get about 500k SP. That's not "nearly 1mil". It takes about 2 months to break 1mil. I tried finding a corp that would take someone with under 1 mil. Problem was the ones that are out there that I could have joined don't play during US Prime Time for the most part so it was hard finding a corp that would a) Take me and b) played when I did. So the game was very lonely and boring to me. Being in an active corp that is on when you are is key, I think, to enjoying this game. Like I said, if I had found one before my month ran out I would probably still be playing.

Yes, I have no friends because I "Whine" alot. Way to prove my point. Someone raises a valid point and you insult them. Exactly how is that helpful?

    Hey blood..

Do ya'll have decent numbers online at 00:00 to about 04:00 EVE time?

I really want to give EVE a try when in an active corp but have been having trouble finding one that will take a new player and has folks on when I am.

Shoot me a PM here if you get a chance.

I really want to enjoy EVE because it *is* a great game. But the boredom due to a lack of folks to socialize with during 'down time' killed it for me.

Theres plenty of corps that are on US time zones mate, just have a look through and get in touch with one that catches your eye (although you are right in some way as eve seems to have a lot more UK players playing than any other game Ive played)...

oh and 1mill skillpoints taking 2months? with bad learning skills its about 1mill per month. Im hitting about 1.2 per moth, last time I checked.

It sounds like you limited your own gameplay. Buy another month and try out a variety of different things rather than simply sticking to what you know/what you're currently good at. I'm starting my free trial tonight and I can't wait to try out all the different aspects of the game.

Thank you but I had a post up for over a month in that forum. It got... TWO... replies. One from some guy who was trying to run a hiring service. I told him I'd love for him to help me find a corp. Within a week he came back and said he wasn't going to be able to help me because no corps wanted people with less than 1mil SP. At least none that were on when I was

The other was a *very small* US based corp that plays when I do but only about 4 or 5 people were ever online when I was. And half of them were AFK.

My advice to you is to do something else while playing EVE Online. If you devote your entire attention to the game, you're bound to get super bored just jumping around. But if you're watching TV or playing another game or something else, the game is quite enjoyable.

You might think that this is an AFK game but I would disagree. In other games like EQ2 and SWG, you would hold the w key while running here and there. In EVE, you just hit autopilot and go do something else until it reaches your destination and then go and play the game. I got really sick of using autorun and still having to steer my character due to obstacles in the game. So EVE is perfect in this sense, you can do something else and only come back during the interesting parts.

Oh, and stay away from mining if you find it boring. It's the #1 thing that'll drive you away from the game.

Umm... you do realize that you just said that in order for this game to be fun you have to seek other entertainment while playing it? Why would I pay money to watch TV? I already pay my cable bill, I don't need to pay an extra $15 a month for a game that forces me to watch TV. That's just silly. I heard this advice in game more times than I can count and every time I hear it I can't help thinking "Why would anyone pay money for a game that forces them to find an alternate form of entertainment or be bored?" I'm sorry, the GAME should be the entertainment :). I think being in a corp and having folks to talk to would make a LOT of the more tedious aspects of EVE more tolerable and even fun. But to tell someone to watch TV while they play? Sorry... why was I going to pay for this game again????

A game, by definition, is entertainment that you PAY for. Would you pay to go see a movie that was so boring you had to bring a book along to read during the slow parts? I wouldn't.

You might think that this is an AFK game but I would disagree. In other games like EQ2 and SWG, you would hold the w key while running here and there.

And you would *die* doing that. Plus going from point a to point b in SWG or EQ2 or WoW or any other MMORPG you run across things to fight or things to visit or a quest to do or whatever. In EVE once you hit "Warp" you don't stop till you reach the destination (well... unless you don't have enough cap for the trip).

Also, I never use the "W" key in SWG or EQ2 for casual play. I have my mouse set up so I don't need to. WASD is for PVP :)

In EVE, you just hit autopilot and go do something else until it reaches your destination and then go and play the game. I got really sick of using autorun and still having to steer my character due to obstacles in the game. So EVE is perfect in this sense, you can do something else and only come back during the interesting parts.

Again with the 'do something else till you reach an interesting part' arguement? I already answered this one: If I have to "do something else" to alleviate the tedium of a game then the game is NOT worth $15 a month.

Oh, and stay away from mining if you find it boring. It's the #1 thing that'll drive you away from the game.

Missions do it too because it takes so long to pick up cargo after a fight. In EQ after a fight you loot you move on you hunt again. In EVE you kill.... you loot... loot some more... 15 to 20 minutes later you can fly away, get another mission, go find another fight. Oh.. and don't forget... you can't pick and choose your missions either, if you refuse one you lose faction... and you don't get to see the details till AFTER you accept the mission. I'm sorry? How is this more fun?

I LOVE doing missions in EVE... they're a blast... the combat is gripping and you have to really pay attention. But looting... now THAT is annoying. Looting is even more annoying than travel because, like you said, during travel I can go afk and come back when the ship stops.... during looting I have to be at the keyboard for every painful 10-70km flight to the next cannister to pick it up. I have, literally, had missions that took 15 minutes to do and almost 30 minutes to finish looting. I should be able to loot more easily than that. But, again, a good corp would make that tedium a little more bearable.

Also: Mining is the best way to get cash till Tier 3 missions. Unfortunately, even doing missions non stop while I played (mind you, 1-2 hours a night 5 nights a week) it took me a long time just to get to Tier 2 missions... and I never got to Tier 3 before my 30 day period ran out and I decided enough was enough.

I'd reactivate EVE if I could find a good group with a decent presense in the game when I'm online. But alone? No way in hell I'm paying for this.

All valid points, Elnator, but let's put it this way. I used to play SWG, EQ2, and a host of of other MMORPGs. I got tired of running from here to there to everywhere while avoiding aggro mobs and steering around trees and mountains just to get somewhere and kill a few mobs and then to move on to the next area. I would much rather prefer to 'autopilot' my character to the places of interest and do what I have to do there and then do the same to the next area. Sure, I might see something interesting along the way, like a named mob or a chance to help out someone, but those times are pretty rare.

By the way, I do courier missions. A good way to build up standing without having to put your ship at risk. It doesn't earn as much as kill missions but I don't get frustrated either.

I think the reason why I like doing something else while playing EVE Online (or any game for that matter) is because regardless of what I play, if I devote all my attention to it, I'll get bored within minutes. I have to cycle my attention so that I don't get bored easily. I'm a very impatient person and waiting around to do something without being able to do something else at the same time really irks me.

To each their own I suppose. EVE requires a lot of dedication that some players might not be able to put into the game.

Courier missions are good for other reasons. I ended up completing 6 courier agents in a row just by asking agnets in stations that my first agent sent me. You can keep going from one station to another completing missions as you go.

    I loved courier missions
Till I got podded in .4 sec because a courier mission sent me there (I didn't know better yet)

PS: I got into a large corp (thank you whoever it was that recommended CH) and have reactivated my account :) The game is a lot more fun with people to talk to during hte down time.

Unfortunately, it happens. Check your journal whenever taking a courier mission. If it warns you that you're going into low-sec space, check to see if that region and the surrounding regions have any ships destroyed/pods killed in the last hour or so. Also, most level 3 agent missions can be run with frigs such as the Probe, that should cut down on losses.

Elnator, I can understand your frustration with the game :). This is my 6th time back to it and I'm enjoying it much more than I did the last 5 times. There's always something new to keep my interest in EVE.

    Oh, and welcome back!
