I have to admit I g=have not been over to the official boards since last month so I decided to wander over and see what ws going on and found a few snippets of some of their animations and figured I would cross post them.
elf training

dwarf falling

elf sitting

kind of short but more than I have seen them release in a while. Apologies if these have been posted in another thread already, but they were new to me at least. At least they give a idea on the quality of animation we can expect.

Damn you Jackdog for getting me excited
Just playin. But yea they've been out for a bit.
The sitting video is pretty sad, once the animation was over I thought the video froze cause they werent moving at all (they were but it was so miniscule). Also you can tell they havent put an idle animation in for the guard holding an axe, hes holding it as if it were a polearm. His arm would be getting pretty sore after about 20 seconds of holding it like that. Also the first video, there doesnt really seem to be any power behind his swings, its kinda like hes catching a butterfly instead of trying to chop somone in half
that video is older then you all might think.
I hope so my purely subjective opinion here is in the practice video the elf looks like a 2d pasted on figure and that sword looks like something from a cracker jack box. On the positive side the animation is fluid and the character model is not bad , beats EQII for what it's worth. The armor has some nice textures also.
In the dwarf falling video there is evidence of some clipping and the overall animation appears to be rough.
In the sitting one there is a glitch at the end, either whoever did the movie messed up or the animation still needs tweaked. Otherwise not bad, but they would have probably been better off devoting the time it took to make a sitting animation to adding mobs and content instead. After the core gameplay is in then add fluff should have been their goal in my opinion.
All in all I am trying to give the game the benefit of the doubt once again, the true test will be what the devs have in their FAQ opening day compared to what is actually in game. Server stability, Customer service, lag and billing arr my other concerns and I still will not order on release day no matter what. Preferring to wait and see the reactions of those who do. If the devs are honest and over all board reactions are decent I will probably try the game out by mid December though.

I'm gonna find out exactly when that video with the elf was released to the public. I'll reply back with the result and link of where it said.
Here is a video - isnt included in your list but shows the quality of DnL at 5/28/2004.
(more then a year ago fyi)

still looking for info on sitting in chair video
mk bad news - for me. Seems i do have an answer from a reliable person at DnL.
"It was released to us via a post on 08-26-2005, 03:29 PM by [AD]Sekhemet. Original thread here
http://www.darkandlight.net/forums/showthread.php?t=20305 .
So, about month ago. That is/should be close to or is the latest graphics engine."
That was said by Bacelius at dnl.net after my request for an answer of when the elf sitting video was released to the public. Seems i was wrong about it being old, and i apologize for that. Oh woe is me.
It really isn't that bad mugboy. All in all I think the game will have better graphics than a lot of them out there. The elf sort of looks "pasted on" but overall that is not something you will notice in gameplay and it could just be the angle/lighting in that video. The texture on the armor like I said I really like, the design on the sword is a bit hokey though but that is just my opinion. Myself prefer more realistic designs on weapons. For another example I love WoW's world graphics but whoever did the character/armor/weapons in it should be looking for a new job in my opinion. EQII has so so world and their characters are awful, but then again that is just me.
Anyway with the open beta looming large, we will all have a chance to see what the game looks and runs like on our own machines won't we and each of us can make our own decisions?

yep
Pretty good. Haven't seen the falling dwarf hehe
This is such a f'en joke and your all a bunch of delusional jokers.
If this crap is all they have to show in the way of movies at this point than please just stop posting about this POS and go away.
hmmm. so what is your arguement? cause i can only see spam of hate towards DnL. if all you are going to do is say stuff like that and have no arguement then you need to go away.
"hmmm. so what is your arguement?"
Perhaps the fact that they have nothing of relevance to show other than some half arsed 10 second animation clips at this point in time would tell the "bright" people that it's simply a POS?
COULD BE!

hmmmm, that elf lacks weight his swings are not properly balanced and he has no follow through on a few of them. It gives the impression that he is holding a peice of cardboard. also his movements are very rythmic and robot like, not the way a humanoid character moves.
I notice these things because I am a character modeler and animator myself and have studied motion and realistic weighting. These things add substance and believability to the character being animated. Most people will not notice it when a game has excelent animations but you will definately notice if it does not, the characters will not seem alive. Can anyone tell me, are these finished works that will be used in the final release?
