laptop having problems!?

I recently (yesterday) got my laptop in the mail! I of course immediately opened it and then i installed origings and battlefield 3 to see how well the computer would run the game,  at first the game ran ultra smooth on ultra settings heh.  though after that i stopped playing and now today when running the game, i am having horrible lag while playing.  Is there any reason for this.

also the specs of my computer can be found on this page: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/5165791#5165791 I followed quizzicals idea on a laptop.

Thank you so much for the help.!

What sort of "horrible lag" is this?  Does it look like very high ping times?  Or is it very low frame rates?

Also, you've got the laptop plugged into the wall while playing games, rather than trying to play games from the battery, I hope.

Hi it was a framerate issue. But i figured out the problem, for some reason my  Graphics Card wasnt running or well at least the AMD Radeon HD 7970M wasnt. I restarted the computer and I'm back off to extremely smooth sailing! I really have no idea why though it turned on without running it.. I hope that isnt something consantly happening

It's possible that it was trying to run from the integrated graphics in the processor rather than using the video card.  I'm not sure whether your laptop tries to use discrete switchable graphics or just keeps the video card running all of the time.  It could be a situation where it checks to see if the laptop is plugged in and decides whether to run the video card on that basis.

It's also possible that you were overheating.  Make sure that you're not blocking any air vents with your laptop positioning.  Overheating is a likely culprit if the game runs great for a while, and then suddenly slows to a crawl in the middle of the game.  It's far less likely the cause if the game runs poorly from the moment you launch it.

It could easily have been that it decided which graphics card to run on the basis of if it was plugged in while i turned on i guess, since i turned it on when it was plugged in and then plugged it into a charger after it started up.

probably a heat issue. overheating is what normally causes huge dips in performance for gaming laptops. Does any part of your laptop feel super hot? if so, you should invest in a laptop cooler or at the very least elevate the back of your laptop with some books or something to get air circulation going. i also suggest installing CPUID HWmonitor and checking out the internal temps of your computer.
