Your estimates / reports on sub numbers

How is TSW now that the first months subs have come due ?

Is there a noticeable drop off in numbers logged on , are guilds seeing a significant % of their members not subbing etc ?

their target was 490,000 and seems they are well below their target...

looks like Funcom now expects to sell through 500K or fewer copies of the game in the first 12 months.

as far as ingame I dunno for sure mmorpg.com guild already pretty much crumbled to nothing..

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

had 5 in my guild actually purchase.
they are all done with it and cancelled, but none of them said it was a bad game. i actually asked tonight and they agreed it was worth the play through.

I see this a lot. I also understand it since I played in the CB and it is a good game for the most part. But it does not really warrant a sub for me and for many. Should have been f2p or b2p to increase their population and at least have a chance at a bigger community to keep the game going because the content is just not enough.

It is worth playing for a month or so for sure.

There are some stories coming out of over zealous GMs kicking around with nothing to do so the policing is heavy handed.

There's a definite drop off in numbers, as with almost any game.

That said, most people who were NOT into this type of game never bought it. Most people who DID buy, did a reasonable amount of research to find out if it was for them.

So I'd say the retention rate is pretty high... compared to a game like Conan that pulled in a bunch of suckers who left immediately.

I also agree that it's certainly worth the money for a 1-month play-through, definitely.

    I'll say 350k max.

I would not even attempt to guess, but all indications are it sold less than anticipated and it's retention is not all that good. A lot of things happening with other games in the near future won't help.

    I miss DAoC

The mmorpg.com guild never really took off or gained any momentum. I think if it had gotten more people from the start, it could have done better.

No noticable drop in the game world. TSW is unique in having the one server tech.  All servers play together. Chat seems as busy as it's ever been.

300k-400k people all playing together is much different from 300k-400 playing on 200 different servers.

true we had only about 30 memebers at peak and even of those 30 only 5 or so people who played regularly

not unique but is a nice feature... also nice that chat is cross servers

True, but I would really like bcbully to justify the word "unique".

i'm betting on between 110K and 160K subs, with 190K units sold.
  • ThillianThillian Member UncommonPosts: 3,156
According to rough xfire estimate the sell number may be anywhere between 250k and 600k, with current subscriber base around 150-400k.

    REALITY CHECK

300k boxes, 100-150k that actually sub.

not possible by any stretch. Funcom expects to sell under 500K by next summer. their target for subs was around 450K. if they were even 70% of the way to that there would be milestone announcements already. the only realistic numbers in your post is the starting ranges 250k sales/150K subs.

Unique as in outside of EvE and aother sandbox titles and unique in terms of AAA mmos released in the last few year.

World wide game with one server one chat tech. The place looks and sounds busy all the time.

I don't think the problem is so much player retention, although they need to improve the pvp if they want to keep pvpers after gw2 and planetside2. It's more a problem of not shifting enough initial boxes. I certainly don't see the mass quiting of everyone on my friends list like with swtor, Aoc or war, probably because it is a better game than those.

I think a combination of Aoc (buggy and incomplete) and swtor (boring as hell), people maybe think tsw is same with it having a strong story element, but its not JUST story like swtor, its an actual mmo.

That said, I will probably quit in a few weeks when I've finished all the quests, as I'm not into raiding / hardmodes dungeon grinding, and there will be better pvp endgames available then with gw2 release. I wobt uninstall though, I will sub a month in a few months time when thrive built up more new quests, with the monthly issues.

i really didn't find much outside the story of interest.. the zones are designed a TON better than swtor to give it more of the MMO feel but still no reason to explore or anything just basic go from mission to mission.. luckily theres no real order you need to do the missions so it didn't feel as monotomous as games like TERA and Rift. Also the variety in the missions is a lot of fun but overall it's mostly a story centric game(for me at least)

My guess would be 200k box, 100k retained sub.

I am, strangely enough, using Funcom stock price as a predictor. I believe that folks moving money around often have more data to work with than retail investors. So what we've seen since April 2012 is the stock drop from a high in the low 20s NOK (about $4) to 3.18 NOK (about $.50) today. I think this drop correlates with a huge miss on meeting sales projections.

My comments have nothing to do with the quality of the game or the enjoyment people continue to get out of it.

This particular analysis is much less forgiving:

Your personal efforts to troll any game will not, in fact, impact the success or failure of said game.

The dungeons are very good too, I like how they are hard with the mechanics rather than hard through length of time to do them.

But I rather pvp endgame than pve. I still think its one of the best for a pure pveer, along with rift. The pvp ain't that bad either, its just with gw2 around the corner I don't have to put up with grind tokens for gear pvp. When I say I don't like the pvp, I also don't like your wow & its clones pvp either.

You forgot about Champions Online & STO there Bully and seperating EvE from the equation is rather strange so unique is really stretching it. Can I ask you though, are you the captain of the HMS The Secret World?

dungeons are fun but for me i'm not into raiding and running normal mode gets stale since its the same thing over and over. I did nightmare couple times but never finished one because people kept dropping out or bitching that people weren't listening or following directions..PVP i found just horrid.. I mean really really bad. I also rather PVP endgame but just could not find any redeeming qualities in the pvp in this game.
