Very good sir, that is the proper thing to do,common sense really.

As to posing as forum users,we have already had it,not very transparent are they either lol.Plus we already have Ripper x and any other PAID reviewer to hype up games with a biased viewpoint. Not too tough to spot a fake poster when they have 1/2/3 posts and all of a sudden write up an eliquent post on a total unknown f2p browser game. Some are of course legit,i never  said every 1/2/3 poster.

It really doesn't bother me how low some people will stoop over a darn vido game, just sad really. We spent  years trying to create proper morals for our soicety but now they seem to be reversing back to the very old days when people would sell fake cough medicine to their mother.

Personally i love the truth,i would rather some person or website try to low ball me with lies and tell me they are just marketing or advertising than someone trying to be sneaky or misleading. However we have all seen when coems to money, people will do anything illegal or misleading to fill their pockets.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Derek Smart, the developer of Line of Defense, and Algalon MMOs post on this forum, but uses his name to do it, which doesnt hide who he is from the pubic here.

But nothing to stop developers like that from not using any identification to the fact they work for a certain big named upcoming MMO,

when they post on this forum. They could even be overhyping the game here on the forum, and most people would see them simply as a normal poster.

Yeah this site gets spammers that kind of give it away that they work for a certain developer. But usually these are indy developers spamming "interest" threads to draw attention to their MMO which lacks notice.

But with a big named MMO with lots of noise, these developers can drive hype without seeming like a spammer here on the forum.

how you feel about this topic at hand?

would you be concerned about Developers hiding in the shadows here on MMORPG.com and other forum sites dedicated to MMO, to hype up their MMO projects without being seen as a developer, or somebody that would profit off the hype?

Yes. It seemed like a gorilla slander marketing campaign was released on TSW. Animations? Combat? CC? Really all art cant not be objectively improved. That type of stuff.

I believe developers are a lot more busy than what you think....

But hey.... forums are free to participate whether you are a developer,a medic or a waiter...

...whether you like the game or u hate it.

So no, it wouldn´t even bother me.

Wasn't a company already caught red handed doing this?

It's low.  It's desperate.  It's sad.  It directly reflects on today's society.  As said reflection, it's not surprising or shocking in the least anymore.

I also think it's funny how they verbally demean forum posters and tell them their opinions aren't important and then do things like this because they know it could have an impact.  I'm sure they do it in their own forums too.

Aerowyn would be my first suspect! Her promoting both TSW and GW2 can only lead to each game fans hatred towards one another. Definitely a Blizzard employee.

Honestly, I don't see a company paying someone to do that. I'm sure that there are quite a few forum users on this site, but not enough to pay someone.  Derek Smart goes from site to site just to be a Derek Smart.

Edit: I had better add that I was joking about Aerowyn! Some may think I'm serious on this website and I will be banned for life. :(

The idea of shills isn't really new. It would be more surprising if there weren't professional advertisers pretending to be consumers on boards like these. I'd expect them to show up more on regular review sites though. It's pretty obvious that it's the professional review sites that drive sales, not sites that cater more towards user reviews.

In general, I don't think it's ethical, but what is ethical advertising? A dictionary like description of a product? Advertising is only as ethical as the law requires it to be, and even then they'll push it if they can.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

I'm sure it does go on as some posts I've read just make me laugh at how superlative a game is like its the The Second Coming (tm) (no not that one image) but ultimately it doesn't bother me at all I play games that I like and sod what anyone else thinks really I make up my own mind.

heh I try all games(well all MMOs) and ones I enjoy ill talk about.. simple as that. If I find issues with the game and why I think it won't do well I post that.. people seem to not like that but at least I'm being honest.

Yeah, I remember arguing with you because you liked the combat and I didn't at all. You explained that once you start switching specs between combat to tailor yourself to a fight, it can actually get a lot more interesting.

Seriously dont give a damn about other people opinions.Play the game and give a hype to yourself.

If a game is successful enough u will hear it from a lot.Because everyone will be playing it.

I personaly play the game and then i form and opinion about it whether is good or bad.

If you are unexperienced to realise if the game is good then u should play more games.

After 12 years of gaming i can say if the game is worth playing after i play it for a month without the need to reaach max lvl.

it's just the experiecne that makes people different in life and in gaming.

You can almost tell the Dev's from other games with how they post. Gosh knows I got a few warnings for actually calling folks out that I think they are being a company shill.

It happens all the time and sometimes to me it seams that it is encouraged that company shills come to this site and post. Gosh knows we seen it in the lotro forums, the swtor and the sto forums I am sure it happens in the other forums.

Don't forget the Age of Conan forums, AoC forum advocates used to post in any thread that said anything bad about that game.

    Anyone with good google-fu here?

There was an article recently about EA's marketing department hiring hundreds of people to talk up new releases on large gaming forums in the weeks leading up to them.

This isn't new, companies often also pay 'actors' (shills) to stand in the crowd at public unveilings of new products or services to act excited in front of the cameras when news crews come to document it.

Look at any E3 conference, there are always 5-10 plants in the audience whistling and going WOOOOO at every terrible kinect or crappy spinoff announcement.

I wouldn't care.  You'd never be able to tell the difference around here.  If I were one of them though, I wouldn't be getting paid since I admit every game has its faults, just that some of them are more unforgiving than others.
