Looking for a little of the ol' guild.

Hi. I'm just about to go and pick up Everquest, today. I have the SOE All Station Pass, and, well, frankly, I've hardly used it. I've always valued the community that is talked about so passionately for Everquest, and I think the best way to enjoy the game is to find a guild for myself. I've played about every game available on www.mmorpg.com's list, but I"ve never made it to a high level in a game, because I couldn't get in it. I'm almost envious of the people who play this, because they seem to enjoy it that much. And I'm hoping to find that same type of passion. If any guild is available in taking on a new player, I would very much so appreciate it, and do my best to prove a competant asset to the clan.

Thank you,

Tryken.

Don't get me wrong, Most people who play(ed) this game Do enjoy it and have many fond (memories) of the game..when all the noob zones were packed and all the areas were full of life..now the whole game revolves around those new spiffy revamped zones and crap and alot of the community is all just high levels wanting to raid and get phat lewt and all the lower levels just grind their way(being twinked out with gear and powerleveled) up to the top trying to do it solo without wanting to have any association with anyone else...this game has changed folks. I played from 2000-end of 2004...MANY great memories, i just don't think its the same as what it used to be..i logged in not too long ago and explored the old places i went with all my friends...completely deserted..sigh.

Well, personally, I've had a lot of friends who were lower level when I first started come back to the game lately. None of them have really stuck around though. I guess if you start when it's the good old times and then come back you'll see a lot of differences. Personally I've become sort of a cornerstone of my server and have a full friends list where I have to remove people who haven't been on in a while so I can put friends on to keep track of. I dunno, I really like the tight knight community. But, it's not what it used to be. This is why I really take a lot of enjoyment from a top end guild. I guess I really wanted to see the high end of the game and this gives me the ability to do it with a tight knit group. In my offtime I'm usually in the guild lobby just chatting. I really should AA more, but honestly 65 to 70 burned me out on the grind and not having the new expansion so I can spend these banked aa's is kinda depressing.

If you don't look at all the uber stuff that's linked as something you need, but rather something the people linking it need to survive it makes a lot more sense. I guess what I'm trying to say is that a couple years ago someone linking time gear was uber, now more guilds raid the plane of time, so for the exp groups and such that they're doing they need that to survive, just like banded or bronze or crustacean or whatever is needed to survive at the lower levels. I know I sure as hell would have liked some armor back in those days ::::17::

Just enjoy the game where you're at, set goals as you go, find a close knit group and you'll get a lot out of the game.

edit: yeah, what server are you starting on? I might be able to find you some good lower level guilds or help you level etc.

Thanks. And, any server you can find a small group in. I am not a solo type person. I think my biggest fear is joining a game and finding noone to be in a group with. So, if you can find a guild in ANY server, I'll join that server and make a character there just to be in the group in the first place. Thanks a bunch.

I may be looking to come to to EQ myself I played it for 5 years and have yet to find anything as good as EQ. ANd yes I have played all the "Top" MMO's and may others and have yet found the feeling hat I has with EQ. EQ was my first and allways find myself comeing back to it. I must say EQ has made a lasting empresion on me and I have allways compared other games I have played to EQ ..... can not say much about EQ 2 right now b/c I have not had a computer that could spport it or FF Online so those games are still in debate .... but soon here in the next week I will have a brand new computer that I am builing from the case up :) so it will rock and handel the games that require alot of power. But from what I did play of EQ2 and FFXI Online they where good but still have not made there mark in my eyes like EQ 1 did.

The terminology has changed so much it's like people are speaking Mongolian to me.

The server mergers have created some problems. For example, all my high level characters are gone, I came back with 3, my highest a 26 Bard.

The server Tribunal was jammed-in with - has prices so high it's starting to sound like bandwidth.

The quality of players, the /general gripes, the camping and the level 69 showing up to bust up your level 20 camp...they are all still there AND in the same rough percentage they used to be.

CSR still sucks, in fact it is one of worst CSRs I have ever witnessed. CSR is so bad, that it makes Mythic's CSR look decent and they don't do anything either. I honestly don't know how they justify their existence, they never actually DO anything. At least in the past they would randomly change one of my character names that wasn't in violation but now there are so many tons of goofy names out there that it's ridiculous, and they don't even do that anymore.

The Guide program was a failure in the past, and it's still a failure. It had the same result as giving Joe Barsitter a Fire-Police badge. He'd knock the headlights out of any car within 200 meters of a fire just because he has the authority to do so. Giving Punk Gameplayer the same authority has the same result.

People are now blatantly inappropriate in General chat because they know nothing will ever be done about it.

In fact this is the one game you can COUNT on bad manners, and bad upbringing showing through in just about every aspect of the game play. Still, there is a game to play and that is better than any other SOE product to-date including EQ2. No matter how much SOE wants to ruin the game it is still affected by the fact that there was more attention to detail in the Verant days than all other MMOs put together since, and that game play is still in existence.

The geniuses that built this left a long time ago but they created their own company, Sigil, which is making Vanguard. It will be interesting to see what they come up with. It's more than likely the best MMO ever if they devote themselves with as much zeal as they did to the design of EQ. If I had a choice to experience any development process in the industry, it would be as a fly on the wall at Sigil for this reason.

1-10 is a breeze now. In fact, stay in the tutorial until 11. You can max all your skills to that level, and make a couple hundred platinum in the process. Loot every barrel you see, and head to the jail side and loot many a Staff (that sell for 4pp at merchant) and you will have good money to equip yourself in the bazaar once you exit the tutorial. Just a little advice, it's worth it to do so.

There is something called a Shared Bank now, I haven't looked into it yet but I'm wondering if I can twink myself without having to drop bags and beg guild mates to transfer money :) Not sure though.

That's exactly what the shared bank is, Wepps-- it is shared between your characters.

I am sorry to hear your merge didn't work out well for you. The Xegony/Zeb merger worked out well, I think. You should NOT have lost high level characters in the merge-- as expected, I only lost characters under level 10 that I didn't play anyway.

[EDIT: I'm looking forward to Vanguard myself, btw. ::::02:: ]

I will preface this by saying that the shared bank was part of LoY, IIRC, so you need that expansion. (Just information for the general reading public).

There should be two slots in your bank on the lower left side, separated from the rest of your bank space. Anything you put in there can be accessed by any of your characters on that server. Throw a couple of bags in there and let the twinking begin! You can also hold LORE items in the shared bank, and it doesn't count as any of your characters having it, so you can use that to hold a second one, should you need to.
