OMG I told everyone this was fail, but no one would listen. The servers are crushed for most players, the constant server drops to character selection, overflow server switching, error 42xxx firewall settings because the login server is crushed.
I warned everyone if the overgrown lan party that was GW was turned into a true mmo it would fail, when masses of people try it out it buckles under the server load, due to under funded little servers trying to act like big aaa game servers.
That's what it's like to try and enjoy any other game on this site. On a serious note the server load is obviously under alot of strain. But if this was any other game the key board assasins would be out in droves, slaughtering a launch that had these issues.
lol I see what ya did there! *puts away dagger*
I am honestly surprised this didn't happen immediately after going live. I suppose its breakfast time!
Cheers!

Considering it had the biggest hype of the past years, this also means that the chance you get folks who complain is a lot bigger because there's a larger population. And no, it's not just fans, there's a lot of folks who were on the fence, sceptical or even plain haters that pre-purchased anyways.
I simply cannot log in - my request doesnt even reach authentication. I heard from my friend who was able to log in really early this morning that the game is laggy as hell.
Not going to score the game on this, but so far ... extremely bad of course. Going back to The Secret World (which had a 10/10 launch) for a while, but itching to try GW2 ( though I don't think I will like the cartoony "little mouse characters" things, but we'll see). I loved gw1 to bits, but have a bad feeling about gw2 - especially now after tsw launch.
TSW launch 100.000 players.
WoW launch 230.000 players.
GW2 lqunch 1.000.000 players.
there is no comparison, these games had way more isues than GW2 has right now at launch and we're talking login issues and some minor lag, with such a huge launch of course issues were expected. Still there are no gale breaking bugs ingame at this moment.

Like D3 was slaughtered on day one? Also due to underfunded little servers trying to act like AAA servers?
1st of all I am on vacation so I can't play GW2 till I get back home this Tuesday, but looking how some players are having issues, I am glad of am on vacation
However I like when players compare TSW or GW2, you know both had early head starts, it looks like the TSW headstart was better executed for the majority of players no matter where you lived.
I am not buying we have more players trying to play the game than TSW and that's why were are having the problems. GW2 had plenty of BWE to get it working properly, I just hope everything is ironed out by Tuesday.

No excuse, with every WoW expansion launch there is downtime and more than 1 million players try to login, that goes pretty smoothly.
Hey get real, the game is having troubles ok, everyone here talking about how it's only affecting 2 out of the 600 people in their guild is just goofey.
Anet has a flurry of post up about the issues they themselves are aware of and the log in server is down in some areas all together. So although I am more than willing to give them a chance to smooth it all out, it's amazing how these issues being covered on guildwars2.com by the developers are somehow imaginary to you people.
Originally posted by neowind Been trying to login all morning with no luck. You no when you pay 60 dollras for something you expect to be able to use it. Just pisses me off when companies half ass things like capacity of login servers. The bad news is that this is PRE-Launch. Image how bad it will be when all the non head start people get going.
The capacity of servers is a one time deal . . . after this and launch there just won't be any more occassions where so many people are trying to login at once.
Login servers are down, not the actual servers. The servers initially came up and the game was available to play at 12AM Eastern Time... 3 hours ahead of the time the website said. I played a total of 7 hours before being loged out with the "wrong password error". Two other friends and I got to level 12 before this happened so to say the launch was a failure is blowing things a bit out of proportion.
1. This isn't launch... it's headstart.
2. There were absolutely no issues with character creation or getting into the servers for all 3 of us.
3. The only issue we experienced once or twice was some network issue when traveling back to our leveling zone from the portal zone or whatever. This, I'm sure, was due to there being so many people on that they were being pushed to overflow servers.
4. Server lag was non-existent, which is something difficult to achieve for all initial launches/head starts these days.
Originally posted by TomBaker_fan Tsw had issues, they allllllll do.
To be fair I know it will clear up, but TSW did not have issues like this.
I had the same issues with TSW, half of the quests in kingsmouth and savage coast did not work. And I didnt bitch there either.
I played the free weekend and was surprised to find a fair number that still did not. Didn't really get bent out of shape about it.
Wish Anet would sort out the EU login issue smacks of infrastructure to me. Was pretty smooth when I played earlier (particularly considering the gazzillion cat people bounding around).

Man, the TSW launch was the most ridiculous and buggy game launch I found in the last years, it was so bad, so laggy and so buggy I cancelled my subscription before one week playing and blamed the money I spent on that piece of junk. The game is not so bad at all, the idea is superb, the graphics are fantastic but the company repeated again the mistakes from the launch of the other games with an incomplete and bad engineered game.
All games have problems at launch, some can fix it in the first day, I am surprised GW2 having bugs now because on all beta weekend I played it was a constant that the game had no big problems at all. I hope they can fix it fast as it was on beta.
Just a little point at this. No playing so won't comment on the rest, but, nowadays in mmorpgs, the majority of the playersbase is present in the headstart to get in early. Launch usually as less people now.

Completely not true. TSW launch was extremely smooth. Zero techncal issues until about a week later, when the chat bug appeared.

5. Gameplay was flawless.
I'd hardly call this a "failure".
This ^^ Except . . . I went to bed after an hour . . . now I regret that. Seems the login server has been taken offline to keep anyone else from adding to an already maxed overflow server.
I was definitely experienced some lag on the overflow server where clicking an ability took some time before execution. But the gameplay still felt smooth despite this.
Got in at 7am EU time played till around an hr ago when kicked with a wrong password error since then the EU login servers have been down.
Squeezed in a workout grabbing some dinner will check back in a bit. Only thing that dissapointed me is I had just looted a bow for my Ranger and I couldnt buy gems to get the Pirate outfit
My previous reply was of course removed because it was a bit too much negative but I wonder why are the people posting obvious troll/negative/bashing threads not getting deleted and the people spitting out the truth and replying to the thread in a non expected way getting warned ? Again I'm aware my post was too much aggressive but I want to understand why is a post entitled as "GW2 Launch Failure" 40 minutes after the game head start (cuz yeah its not launch but head start) still not getting locked ? Anyone enlighten me please

Actually, I think those tears keep these forums popular with players of games like Eve Online. To each their own...
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Actually the game launched at 9:30PM, so technically you are incorrect. However I'm not arguing, just giving m two cents.=]

At least it gives something to do for the drama queens... they would be bored otherwise
Yeah, it's easier to have stable servers when 100.000 people maximum are hammering them than when close to 2 million are hammering them... ;-)
Respect, walk

NA server here:
No problems logging in at all. No lag. It was smooth for me. I just have to force myself to take breaks from the game.
While in EU can't login, like "can not"
