Two other friends and I got to level 12 before this happened so to say the launch was a failure is blowing things a bit out of proportion.

    1. This isn't launch... it's headstart.

    2. There were absolutely no issues with character creation or getting into the servers for all 3 of us.

    3. The only issue we experienced once or twice was some network issue when traveling back to our leveling zone from the portal zone or whatever. This, I'm sure, was due to there being so many people on that they were being pushed to overflow servers.

    4. Server lag was non-existent, which is something difficult to achieve for all initial launches/head starts these days.

    5. Gameplay was flawless.

I'd hardly call this a "failure".

God that is amazing, hey friend the servers blew up and died, overflow switching was kicking everyone on planet Earth out to the character selection but none of it happened?

    You should be in politics.

I'm not sure I understand what you're getting at. I'm not making things up or exaggerating in anything I said so I'm a bit confused. There are many many others who experienced the same thing I did... I know this because what I heard from guild members and seeing all the people around playing at the time I was.

Huh? Its a discussion forum. What does this mean?

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

A game can be considered having a Launch Failure when the content itself is bugged, messed up or the game is just isn´t ready, soemthing that TSW actually had .. and exactly, it is what´s not happening here.

Yeah, the whiners here are mostly just noobs. What matters is the quality and state of the game, who cares if the servers aren't robust enough to handle an event that isn't ever going to happen again anyway. A MMO vet expects these kinds of errors and MORE and launch. Of course, the whine fest also begins on launch and never really ends which is to also be expected. But I was sort of hoping that this game would be different, that it would have a more mature audience . . . which is crazy considering I've never played a game that didn't have whiners initially . . . which makes me wonder: maybe these guys really are vets, whining vets.

I loved gw1 to bits, but have a bad feeling about gw2 - especially now after tsw launch.
    TSW launch 100.000 players.

    WoW launch 230.000 players.

    GW2 lqunch 1.000.000 players.

there is no comparison, these games had way more isues than GW2 has right now at launch and we're talking login issues and some minor lag, with such a huge launch of course issues were expected. Still there are no gale breaking bugs ingame at this moment.

AND this is just head start pre launch......!

SWTOR launched with more and their launch went pretty smoothly.

He's just making numbers up. So I'd not take it seriously, and clearly doesn't understand the differences between them when it comes to server design.

SWTOR had way more servers than GW2, all pretty much full for a while.

Started to download/update Friday, but stopped it, due to it slowing my connection down while doing other stuff.  Figured I would let it download all night, and play today....It stopped/locked up at like 4%, so now I am doing it again, and it keeps locking up after so many percent, and giving me errors...

So based on what I have seen so far personally, worst launch for me ever.  Even Vanguard with its bugs started out better...   I could of patched earlier, but you have to figure if you are willing to wait till the next day (and patch overnight), you usually are going to be ok.

Huh? Its a discussion forum. What does this mean?

Most mmos seem to be in favour for performance nowadays for the USA, this looks no exception as it generally seems EU players that cant log in.

    Theres your discussion

It is a widespread issue and Anet already acknowledged it on Facebook and twiiter. Anything else?

    Standard edition = £34.99

Um, no you didnt pay extra for it. You paid the same price as it will be in 3 days.

Well, maybe they did, since they had to pre-buy for it, and they missed out on sitting back and missed a deal, since you had to make a commitment to buy it.

I do not get people saying this is head start, so it doesn't count....You pre-bought the game and this was a privledge of doing so....Just as a collectors edition gets things...IT is a little different, but when you tout that this is why you should pre-buy....It would be nice if they would of made good on that promise.....They know how many copies they have sold, and how many people were going to be trying to log in to play....It couldn't of been a suprise....All those beta events, and still personally the worst launch time for a mmo yet...

Oh well...IT will still be there whenever, I was already a little meh on the game, so it would of been nice to atleast have a good start.

The game is free to play and you want them to ADD 3 more free days?

  • DarkmothDarkmoth Member Posts: 174

Honestly, after all the betas and stress tests, this sort of predictable faceplant is kind of embarassing. It's not like they can claim to have been surprised by sales, because everyone logging in is a preorder.

Login/Auth servers. That's always the weak link in these launches. It is either very, very hard to predict initial player login volume, or (more likely) it's too expensive to support it.

That being said, when I was actually IN the game it was unbelievably smooth. The gamve code, form what I can tell after 3 hours of playing, is pretty flawless. Which makes the damn auth server code just that much more baffling.

The fact is they got us to pay early with the printed facts that 25th was a preearly launch, it turned out more advertising hype.

All those stress tests really didn't help either.

Was logged in and then when boss was attacking, I get password authentication error and get kicked out. Now of course I get the login issue. Didn't have this issue with RIFT on first day :(

I would be content to just say screw it and wait, and let it download at night, which is what I did originally, but the damn client keeps stopping at 4-10% of the current download, and I have to babysit it and restart it to continue getting content....So yeah pretty crappy.
