. IF this takes a substantial amount of time to rectify (in my eyes more than 24 hours from the 12am PST launch time), some sort of concession from Anet would be nice.
We're a good long way from 24 hours of downtime for the majority of folks. Even for the EUs who have had prblems from the very beginning.
Did manage to get in early on in EU but then issues started. and been that way since.
Still, after having Gameforge (Aion) and Frogster (Tera) dumped on us, we tend to be pretty hardended to these kind of things.
Compensation certainly turned out to be a hot potato. I don't see how defending "no compensation is needed" can be rational? Are you afraid of reprecussions? Compensation > No compensation.
Also, I'm a bit shocked to see the agressiveness in many of the responses...

No compensation needed is completely rational due to the fact that if you pre-purchsed, you have already received exactly what you paid for, end of story.
A creative person is motivated by the desire to achieve, not the desire to beat others.

If the servers are still down on the 28th, would you argue that I still got exactly what I paid for?

Yes, if you pre-purchased, as of 5am (UK) this morning, you could login and play, which means you received the 3 day head start, and all the in game items you paid for as part of the pre-purchase.
The servers being down now, do not change that fact, and if they stay down until or even past the 28th, it still does not change the fact that you had the 3 day head start.

By your reasoning a playable game is just as good as an unplayable one then... What we paid for was the entertainment of watching a patcher failing to connect. Like watching a beer go stale in a glass.
There are also some of us who have not been able to log in once yet.

No, by my reasoning, when Anet turned the login server on at 5am (UK), which was actually 3 hours early, they gave everyone who pre-purchased the 3 day head start they said they would be given.
That is all.
I am not saying anything else, I am not implying anything else, my reasoning does not mean anything else.
Because you, and possibly others, chose not to partake of the 3 day head start as soon as it was available, does not change the fact that you were given it, just like everyone else was.
Also, it is not a case of the servers being up for 1 minute then going down, they were up for over 6 hours (at least, as I was online playing from just before 5am until 12.30 ish when I logged off to go eat), which means everyone that prepurchase dhad plenty of time to take advantage of it.

I am sure they wil refund you a free months subscription if you ask.....
I hope they do or I will be cancelling my pre-order.
Well, I didn't pay to play 3 months from now. I paid to get 3 days of head start. They're not delivering as advertised, so that means we are entitled to compensation.
If you bought a new car, would you be ok with if it refused to start for the first few hours?
No you didn't. You paid for a game. The headstart cost you nothing extra and in the fine print NOTHING was guranteed. Now what's your excuse?
Seriously, is this ya'lls first MMO? First launch?
Yes you did pay for the privledge of the headstart. It's called prepurchasing, part of forking over the full £50 was a three day headstart, that's the deal on purchase. If you wanted a cheaper option you could have waited and either gone with the one dayer or waited after release.
So yes it's perfectly understandable why people are pissed off. This isn't a random beta invite and someone whineing because the game doesn't work. You paid a premium for earlier access as part of the deal with ANET. You've kept your side ANET hasn't so far. Therefore much outrage.
Car analogies are bad for this sort of thing, I'd say more like a V.I.P pass at a rock concert. You've paid to go backstage and meet your favorite band, but noone told the band and there not in the mood so it's not happening. Naturally you'd be pissed off because you paid the extra for this privledge and it's been denied because of a combination of human error/apathy. Probably like how a lot of GW2 fans are feeling right now.

Um... you aren't exactly paying a sub fee. Whether you play now or 3 months from now, you paid the same price.
Actually no, for those that are playing the headstart you are paying extra, for example here in the UK if you wait until the official 28th launch you can buy the game for £34.99, compare that with the £49.99 Arenanet are charging for the digital and headstart, The cheapest I found was Gamerocket at £42 with taxes but that had no Headstart included, it was a 1 day extra cost aswell.
So yes those that aren't able to get in right now should feel robbed, they paid extra for those 3 days.

You payed for the game.
You didn't pay extra for the headstart, they gave it to you as a gift because you prepurchased.
I would had understood it if you would had to pay extra for the headstart but since it wasn't the case, I think asking extras is a little bit out of place.
Yes, they could give us some compensation as "sorry for the bad start guys" or something but it's not a must, nor are we entitled to it.
Originally posted by jmcdermottuk What about all the BWE's you had access to. You saying you didn't pay for those just as much as the headstart? Quit moaning and grow up.
You paid for them yes but utimatley there meaningless and most people will have paid the extra for the headstart. That's when the actual game begins for those who paid the privledge to be there.

Wrong!
You are paying more for the digital deluxe because of the in game items you are getting from it, not because of the headstart.
While I would have liked a smoother launch myself, I know that ANet is KILLING themselves to fix the relatively small issues that are happening. I do not feel entitled to "compensation". In fact, to even type that word here makes me bust up laughing at anyone who does think they "deserve" something for their apparent mental instability.
A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.
Headstart is a privelege, not a right and you self-entitled idiots should move along. Apparently not really your type of game. I'd recommend a gameboy or something that doesn't involve other people.
People were crying before the downtime. Would you rather they not fix the issues? Just cry and flame that's all this forum is good for today apparently anyways.
Even the best laid plans.....
In the UK (where the problem manifested itself earlier) it cost 15 quid extra for the ore purchase version actually.

You paid to PLAY. Period. You might have paid early for the headstart, but you would have paid it a few days later anyway even if you didn't. The game will be working fine very soon, and the connection has been re-established, says the GW2 Twitter, so it'll all work out.
This is exactly why I DIDN'T pay for a headstart, however. I always go into a new MMO launch assuming there will be issues.

Just saying, I'm pretty chilled about it all.
This, In UK they charged us £15 extra for the 3 day headstart, I would say that makes it a right for us to get it, or they refund the extra we had to pay to get it?
You may have got special treatment in the USA and not have to pay the extra but here in the UK we DID pay for the headstart.
Also Is anyone else in UK still not able to connect? sick of this now.. One of longest downtimes during a headstart yet.

Sorry but your completley wrong.
When the prepurchse went up only a few retailers were offering GW2 on a prepurchase. All of them were charging at £50, in the U.K at least. Bear in mind at that point GW2 had no release date and people were putting the money down on faith of a release soon.
Part of the deal with prepurchasing at that point was a 3 day headstart, you only have to look back at the forums for proof of people debating whether to hand over the money without a release date, and for paying extra for the headstart.

£34.99 without headstart access £49.99 if you wanted headstart access

The pre-purchase was a whole package, BWE's, Stress Tests, Items and Headstart. TBH though anyone who's been around MMO's for any time knows that day 1 access for popular titles has problems. 2004 saw me waiting 3 hours just to create a WoW account and register a CD key, and after that the servers were up and down for hours.
All this says to me right now is that GW2 has sold a shed load more copies than Anet expected, which is a good thing. The problems will be resolved and people will get into the game. To feel you "deserve" some form of compensation is rediculous. It's like going to the pub and expecting free beer because the fridge is broken.

If you look now the game is actually cheaper to buy because you can't register for a 3 day headstart now, see here:http://www.game.co.uk/en/guild-wars-2-71919?pageSize=20&searchTerm=Guild%20Wars%202 and http://www.amazon.co.uk/Guild-Wars-Standard-Edition-DVD/dp/B007YZ5B0I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1345908256&sr=8-1
