The mail system worked fine in beta. I haven't used it yet in the headstart but I like it how it is,don't swap items with people I don't know though. I can see how people who like posting items up in chat would want a straight trade though so not to get the" I don't know you man, same time" thing happening.
It's to battle illegal RMT. You also cannot mail more coin than you have earned with your character. I also think it's strange to not have face to face trading but that's ANets decision and we also love to complain about RMT so which is worse?
If you trust the person, mail it. If you don't put it up in the broker. No face to face trade also means sold goods are going through the broker which is shared between all servers. It's certainly a polarizing issue but there are decent arguments on each side.

I don't frequently post on these forums and I am impartial to GW2, but I really have to ask this...
What the heck is wrong with these "modern" MMO's leaving out the most basic, established functions? You don't have a trade window? I mean, WHAT?? This is becoming ridiculous...
Again, I reiterate, this might be a great game, I have no idea, but this just sticks out to me and begs the question what else is missing foundationally, such as that level of immersion/spirit that I would feel in old-school MMO's like UO and even non-MMO games. This one important aspect is exactly why I have quit this genre and turned my attention to FPS.
Yet, my hope that it may one day return still lingers...
That is like saying what the heck is wrong with Apple leaving off physical buttons on their iPhone. The physical button is the most basic established function that was on all the Blackberries before it. It is so rediculous. We needed that tactile feedback of real physical button.
In a genre where people have to go to EXTENSIVE lenghts to discover players personal information so they can hack their accounts in order to obtain their ingame, digital assets, we have now progressed to the "Honor System".
Not every decision ANET made is best for the overall player experience and requires defense.
While it is a very easy to use system. It offers No security.
Sure, you should send them that feedback. Personally I don't care one way or the other. If I require coin for the things I have I'll put it on the broker, once it's not broke lol, and if not I'll just mail it.
Yeah it is strange that they do not have a trade panel. GW1 has it, so not sure why it isn't here. Either it is completely obfuscated as to where it is located and no one can find it lol, there is a bug preventing it from being shown, or it is not implemented.

I think they did that on purpose to avoid all possible scam, if you want to trade you need to go through the market, mailing items is just to give free items to your friends.

Mail is fixed now and it's way better than trading because you don't have to meet one another anymore. Now I'm waiting for the trading brokers to start working so I can sell my loot and crafts there...

The mail system didn't solve much. You still can't trade item for item unless you trust the other person.
So then, the problem is compounded instead of improved upon. Yet we consider this a "modern" MMO.

But they could put that same limit on trading.
It's a moronic decision.

Well..guess what happened..
rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Novel idea but then the system would be tracking every item in the game instead of the three coin amounts. Not sure how easy that would be.
Its just an integer value. They could just make it so that it tracks coin, no?
