Remember Nvidia + Intel. Everything else is just second rate specs.

Actually, what you should learn is that hardware questions are best asked in the hardware forums.  You get fewer of the rabid fanboys there, so the signal to noise ratio is much better.

    That too!

I wouldn't go with any AMD if you want to play WvW at respectable frame rates... just take a look at this comparing my CPU(llano A8-3850) with the one Quizz suggested... http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/399?vs=188 pretty much equal performance and I get 20 fps sometimes lower in WvW zergs with a 500Mhz overclock and Game Booster running.

Stay away from AMD CPUs if you're looking to improve framerates for GW2.

Yep, running minimum requirements on anything piece of hardware does not a decent system make.

I think it's more of an issue of optimization on their end too, there's no reason mid range systems should be getting such low FPS.

In your case I think only having dual-core is the main issue. When I disable 2 cores on my system performance drops by like 20fps.

So upgrade to Quad-Core. And if you do you might as well get one that blows what you have outta the water. Something like i5-3570k.

You linked the wrong processor comparison.  The right one is this one:

    http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/399?vs=102

But again, it's not an AMD versus Intel issue.  It's a question of which particular processor you get.  It looks like GW2 simply struggles with modern mid-range processors.  It would likewise struggle with an Intel processor that gives performance in the same ballpark as the AMD ones mentioned.

A Core i5-3570K would presumably perform quite a bit better.  But that's not because it comes in a box with an Intel sticker on it.  It's because it's a faster processor.  And a more expensive one, because it's faster.

The trouble with upgrading to a Core i5-3570K is that you can't just replace the processor alone.  You'd also have to replace the motherboard, and that means you'll probably need a new OS license, too.  At that point, you're looking at about a $450 upgrade, as compared to the $110 processor alone option.

I get 60+ fps in PvE and 15-20 in WvW. Pretty much unplayable in large fights.

I don't think he'd be happy with the upgrade to the 965. It should improve over a lot from what he has now but he'd still be getting low FPS in WvW.

cpubenchmark.net has my CPU at 4264 and the 965 at 4201.

So I guess if he wants to play WVW around 10-20 fps then he could go with it.

If he just wants to enjoy PvE, I have no issues there with FPS.

Without a new OS license an upgrade to the 3570k wouldn't be too bad.

Are the WvWvW problems a case of, as soon as you enter WvWvW, your frame rate tanks, even if no one else is around?  Or is it fine when you're off by yourself, but horrible when there are a bunch of players around?

It drops some amount from just entering WvW but when a lot of players are around is when it becomes real bad.
