I was doing some sPvP earlier, trying to fill the gaps in content, so that I'm not doing content higher level than me, and not repeating events too much, but it auto levels me to 80 and it doesn't appear that I get xp. I get some other form of progression, I think it's called valor, but I open my character sheet and whatever else and can't see an xp bar to even check if I'm getting xp. When I leave the mists, I don't notice a difference in my xp bar, granted I didn't think to look to closely before entering the mists.
So do we really get xp from sPvP? What about WvW PvP? Also, do you auto level to 80 for WvW AND get tricked out lvl 80 gear like you do in sPvP? If so, then when you hit lvl 80, is your gear you're wearing replaced by that auto gear? It'd suck if it did.
Edit: I'm also extremely disappointed that I can't participate in my main selling point for this game: WvWvW. I'm an ex-DAoC player, and I couldn't wait to try it out. I'm almost always in an overflow realm, but even when I'm not, I have to wait in a que. So I've been PvEing, running out of PvE content for my level, repeating events, and etc. I have the entire zone explored, vistas done, skill challenges done, and all that's left is repeating events, do the 1 heart I have left, and I'm level 14. My next story mission is lvl 16, and I want to wait to do that. How am I supposed to fill the gaps in content if I can't even get into WvW pvp, assuming you get xp doing it. I'm just getting frustrated.

A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.
You don't get XP in sPvP. It's made like this for a reason. Everyone in sPvP is on even footing. All level 80 with all of the skills and the same level armor. It's designed like a sport. Think of sPvP as jumping into a Call of Duty match but without the cursing teenagers.
WvW is the PvP where you do level and where your gear matters a bit.
You can do lower level zones. The game will "downlevel" you in a way to keep it interesting and you get xp and loot appropriate to your level.
Cheers!
