WvW What am I doing wrong?

MikeJezZMikeJezZ Member UncommonPosts: 1,268

Short story:

I join my borderlands server, I see theres combat somewhere, I go there, apparently no ones aiding. I die.

Where do  I see where my team members are? And how do I get to them besides walking from the very beginning?

Although I am not a GW2 PvP aficinado I will try and answer your post with the info I know or have figured out. There are waypoints, just like in the PvE areas, that u can open for fast travel. Only prob is these waypoints can be in contested or other team controlled areas so depending on how well your team is doing will determine which waypoints u have access to. Also if you pull up your map u will see dots, green I believe, that are your team members just does as i do go with the flow.

You walk! :) That's your incentive not to die. Your best bet is to check where battles are going on on your map, but also look out for the two white swords depicting combat at towers, keeps, camps etc. You can usually use those to judge where to head to. Otherwise just ask in the map channel and someone is sure to direct you to where needed.

If all else fails, start capping supply routes on your own and you'll run into some people on the way.

Yeah, I was trying to find the waypoints myself. I couldn't see them on the map anywhere.

Ask on /team or /map where are your forces.

    Join a guild.

There's a lot of ways to find yourself in WvW :)

Stay with a group of allies.

    Don't wander off by yourself.

Always be aware of your surroundings / your position / allies' positions / enemies' positions

If you can't see bad guys until they pop up right next to you (and then kill you), you need a faster internet connection.

Don't chase someone who's low into a group of enemies.

Have at least 1 skill that can be used as an escape mechanism (i.e. elementalist's mist form, mesmer's blink).

Big battles have the cross swords icon on the map, usually between a location you own and a location another server owns.

read the map chat and see where people are going. you can also give a shout and ask where do people need help. i know people are accustomed to solo-mode instant gratification in mmorpgs these days but in this game it helps to come out of your shell and talk to people sometimes :P

Most memorable games: AoC(Tryanny PvP), RIFT, GW, GW2, Ragnarok Online, Aion, FFXI, FFXIV, Secret World, League of Legends (Silver II rank)
