Crafting for Jeweler and Tailor kind of sucks !

delete5230delete5230 Member EpicPosts: 7,081

I'll admit I've never really liked crafting in any mmo.

Anyway, I'm playing a Sylvari Necro. My crafting choices are Jeweler and Tailor.  Well finding material drops for both suck at least in the Sylvari area 1-15.

Tailor requires lots of Jute ( cloth ) No drops at all, in fact the only way to get Jute is by salvaging my replaced armor.  I asked my guild and they say yes, players are having a hard time finding Jute.  One recommended going to Queensdale and fighting Centaurs, ok but the drop rate is very low......YOU NEED LOTS OF JUTE.

Jeweler same thing you need lots of Pebbles......Well good luck.....I harvested three Pebbles so far and I'm level 15.

I just can't make anything of any value for my levels. Any suggestions?... because I'm ready to give up on this time consuming pain in the butt thing they call crafting !

for tailor you can use your karma to buy a bunch of low level cloth items then salvage them to get your jute.

for jeweller i dont know what to do except farm ore nodes, if anyone has any secrets to help with that please post.

i just happen to be tailor/jeweller too. :)

Wait until the trading post comes up.  The prices in beta were dirt cheap- a few copper each. Lots of people who don't craft will dump everything they have. Also, some people, like me are only concentrating on 2 professions, so will be dumping everything else- for instance, I have no use for jewels and happen to have a seriously healthy stack of all the under level 30 drops.

PS- buying more onions and carrots:P  Meanwhile, Im farming blue meat drops off every animal in my path....

I have 65 bolts of jute and have already used plenty. Jewels and stones you get about one every time you mine ore. If I were you I would focus on hunting down ore to mine you will get a lot of jewels/stones that way. Jute I get from the sacks enemies drop and salvaging torn fabrics I believe.
  • Try finding the mobs that drop 'Tiny ... Bags' (lots of different names) open up the bags and depending on mob you can get quite a bit of jute and/or leather.

For gems - buy the iron mining tool and use it - I get many more gems now from mining copper than I did with the copper mining tool.

Haven't played much in Sylvari area yet.  In human area Centaurs and Bandits drop 'Tiny ... Bags'.  In Norn lands Svanir drop them.

At level 9 I had 20 or so gems, tons of copper ore.... The jewelry I'm crafting currently is for level 15+  and I'm only level 45 in jewelry. What are you having issue finding or doing? Grab a pick axe and go mine... you need the copper more than the gems at first. Harvesting the copper gives you plenty of gems by the time you need them. You get a good amount of xp for experimenting as well.

I won't comment on the tailor side because I'm not a tailor.

Spot on I have loads of drop and stuff of all types, provided you harvest everything you come across you can pretty much get everything you need on one toon. I have created other toons so as to use them just to get all my mats used so it's real easy imo.

The keys to GW2 Crafting (any and all Professions) are leveling early off your "Refinement Items" (Scraps>Cloth, Ingots>Bars, etc) and then Discoveries. You get a metric crapton of Crafting XP from Discoveries. They specifically designed Crafting so you could more efficiently level it by research and crafting a few items rather than spam-crafting useless junk.

    Hope this helps

Take your time, go out and kill some stuff, what's the rush ?

    You'll level it eventually.

You'll never be competitive, as there are already lvl 80 crafters ready to corner the market,  so why rush ?

Plain and simple, salvaging IS the intended way to get your leather and cloth.  Don't expect pure jute cloth to drop in sizeable quantities.  It just won't.

If you haven't noticed, you get a LOT of gear in this game.  If you just play for an hour, you'll probably end up with 20-30 pieces of white or blue gear (in a starter zone).  3 or 4 of them may be upgrades for you, but the rest are meant to be salvaged.  Even after you get an upgrade, the pieces you replace are meant to be salvaged.

On top of this, you get generic scrap items that serve no other purpose other than to be salvaged for crafting materials.  This is the mechanic as it was designed.  I assure you, as soon as you get used it this, you will have all the cloth you need.

For me, the primary limiting factor was always the blue components to insignias (blood, claws, venom sacs, etc.)  These only seem to come from drops off of associated mob types.  You need a good mix of all of these if you wish to discover a wide variety of recipes (by far the most efficient way to level a craft.)  If you're a crafter, you will need to farm them or buy more from the AH.  With the AH still out of commission, you're left to farming which can kind of suck.

Which is something that the trading post would help alleviate.

OP if it has not already been mentioned, humanoid type mobs are very good for cloth drops also!

I'm up to 105 with tailor and 120 with jeweler, but ran out of silver and wool cloth so have been farming some more.  I'm hopeful to have enough now to hit 125 with each which will push me into the next tier of crafting.

Exactly one of my points.  No humanoid type mobs in the Syvari area.  I had to go to the human area to farm humanoids.

Drop rates for packs or kits or what ever you call them are semi rare, and after opening them, it's still a gamble to get Jute. And like I say you need lots of jute, LOTS.

Jewel crafting.....I don't think I missed one mining nod in the starter area, very few drops for gems and pebbles at least in the Sylvari area....I've been trying to do tailoring more, I'll need to play with jewel crafting more.
