I don't know how many times I've said this, going by xfire or any other numbers is misleading.  That's like saying apples are horrible, because at the orange store people only buy oranges.  The majority of WoW players probably dont' even know what xfire is...

The only thing about the patch I don't like is the new warlock.  It's waaaaay to complicated. you have 4 different resources and demonology doesn't even rely on your demon anymore, it relies on Metamorphasis, which I never liked since they added it.  I love the new druid, death knight, and warrior.

Numbers are supposed to drop off before an expansion no matter what the devs do.  Espeically how Blizzard does expansions.  Noone is going to sit around a raid for gear that in a month will be obsolete.

E-peen waving benefits no one. Please, just stop.

    There is NO miracle patch.

95% of what you see in beta won't change by launch.

    Hope is not a stategy.

Now let's see you say that you did not create this account to troll other games. This thread and the SWTOR thread kind of prove you are don't they? We get it, you love GW2, so do I but this is just sad.

yeah sure... the numbers are ok, as long as WoW is number 2 on xfire for years.

but when it drops to 6th place in 3 days, nothing to see here, move along.

One of the reasons I'm hesitant about buying GW2.  The fanatacism of GW2 fans is scarry.

Edit: and all the number drop means is that players that play WoW AND use xfire aren't playing it right now....that's it.  It doesn't speak for the probably 70-90% of us that hate MTV and won't use thier crappy program to keep track of how bad our addiction is.

I've been playing MMOs for the better part of 10 years. and NEVER had anyone use it, talk about it or even ask what Xfire is.

Serious? You don't want to buy a game because people like it!? :)

I'm playing GW2 now and it is awesome! I"m also excited about playing a Monk in WoW. A true mmorpg champion lets no one deter his quest (or his passion) !    :)

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

Do you know what a sample size is?  Most polls only use 1000 people.  Do you know how Nielsen Ratings are calculated for TV shows?  People with a device connected to their TV monitors what they watch and then that data is extrapolated into the ratings.   That is exactly how Xfire works.  Xfire definitely gives a good indication of actual trends.

I'll be buying it, but I have a rule that I never break for MMOs since Age of Conan, I will never ever ever ever ever buy a game or preorder it until at least one month later.  This lets me get an honest opinion of the game from others, and the newness wears off.

I agree. I wouldn't mind the fanboys, if they'd keep it to their game. But when they start trolling, then they just look like pubescent minors with personality issues.

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

I guess xfire proves it.  WoW has been toppled, and the servers will go offline next.

Really man.  This is sad.  I don't even play wow, and I will acknowledge that in 2 more expansions GW2 will be mentioned about as much as GW1 is now and WoW will still be going strong.

Also that is not quite accurate.  When doing a poll you are correct in that you use a small number of people, but people should be randomly selected.  If not you end up with results that are skewed based upon the selection criteria.  Thats why most polical polls are skewed toward an outcome based on who is perfoming the poll.  If a player is using xfire then that already puts them as being a certain type of gamer which will skew the results.

The patching to 5.0.4 for EU servers ment the WoW EU servers were offline for until 2-3pm BST yesterday.   Thats probably the cause of the drop for yesterday. And the majority of the drops the last few days with the US patching the day before, it's a 19GB patch so probably many are still downloading the patch.

    Plus GW2 ofc

A very good rule to have indeed. I wish I had had the patience and willpower to follow that kind of rule over these many years. That would have saved me from buying a few stinkers.  :)

From my experience, barring a few here and there, the GW2 community pretty much sucks. In my eyes this dude isn't helping their cause.

I wonder what these dolts think about people like me that actually, *gasp*, play BOTH games and DON'T use XFire... Are we as weird as them?

I don't know how else to explain it other than noone in WoW even mentions xfire or uses it.  Where as perhaps every player in GW2 uses xfire.  So of course GW2 is going to have more hours played (just hypothetical numbers, not everyone uses xfire).  That's where the numbers are scewed.

100% of people poll that I'm the sexiest man alive 1% of the time :)

I used Xfire when it first came out to hook up with friends in a few shooters and that's it. I haven't used it for many years now and would never try to use Xfire numbers of proof of anything as I would think it would only cover a very small cross section of a games actual player base.

to be honest, it was schadenfreude, but does that make me a fanatic?

    are you serious?

I simply dislike the panda addition. yes, I know it is part of the lore and all... but it is not where I wanted WoW to go.

and I have played it on and off since launch.

I do not understand why Blizz keeps the gear grind system even for PvP...I just don't get it.

and along comes a game with a real open world that is still relevant after 80, has legendaries that don't break game balance or are mandatory and to top that balanced, fun pvp...

does that make me a fanatic? I'm just venting my frustration of WoWs direction and joy over the competition doing it right.

believe it or not: I have never seen such a friendly and helpful community ingame in any game.

why? because gw2 does not allow griefing or competition in PvE.

harvesting nodes are instanced, as is loot.

buffs, heals are always AoE and affect ungrouped players as well.

everyone can rez and once you do, you get XP.

whenever I die and there is a player around, he or she runs to me and rezzes me. it is such a difference to the hostile attitude in WoW.

polls for better or worse control our lives...

I don't think wow can't recover... it'll find new players with MoP... but those who burnt out on raiding dragon soul for what felt like a decade won't be back that soon.

and those who understand that gear grind is the whole game, and that's it, won't be back since GW2 has no gear grind.

how many are doing heroic raiding? 0.1%

how many participate in the grind to get there? 99.9%

    that's WoWs problem.
