Aion had better movement mechanics

KarteliKarteli Member CommonPosts: 2,646

Yup, it brings everyone back to Aion, where you had wings that acted like gliders.  Jump off a building or a cliff in Aion and you could pull out your wings (if you wanted to) to glide around.  Jump off a huge mountain, and you could enjoy a nice slow decent, while exploring new territory (some inacessible to not flyers).

To those not familiar with Aion, it was like a WoW levitate that you could stear (you slowly fell downward, but could accelerate the fall depending on the angle you stear).  It became useful to access PVE areas and tactically beneficial to PVP.

Whenever I fall from a ledge or jump from a cliff in GW2 I just want to open some sort of glider mechanism, it just seems natural - but there is none!  If GW2 won't provide gliders for players I bet ArcheAge will :P   /snap

I didn't like flying in Aion.  It was just a gimmick and their answer to flying mounts.  I would have preferred flying mounts instead. Aion wasn't that bad though.  As for GW2, movement is probably it's weakest point for me.  I really hate the gliding effect and slow keyboard turning.  I'm getting used to it though.

Well flying I thought was awkward, if thats what you meant, I agree with you.

I was referring to the act of gliding, or wings in Aion.  Essentially, swooping through the air, feeling like Pilot Wings 64 (Nintendo 64) using the handglider ... although with fewer restrictions on landing, definitely.

I hated everything about Aion. It felt like GW1 with jump.

Auto follow, combo boring, and just overall poop.

Pretty sure no one is forcing you to play GW2 and not play Aion.

    Just a guess though.

So you don't like GW2 because it's not similar to the biggest letdown of the NA MMO market.

    k

If WoW was released today even in its' entirety it would be f2p in 3 months.
Why is it still such a big deal?

Really?  I talk about one facet, and you assume I hate the game..

Naw I like what I see so far, I just wish it had a glider.

So this topic is basicly a pleed for all mmos to have wings and glide option? I don't get it. U could start literally 99.99% of all other mmos on the planet and create this thread.

I thought flying was a stupid idea and one of the main reasons i didnt play Aion..

Don't tell me you didn't laugh your ass off when you jumped down a cliff in GW2 and litterally planted your face flat into the ground.

    Good times.

DCUO had the best travel skills of any game I've played.  I spent a crazy amount of time just messing around in the skyscraper zone...

In GW2 I think these skills would break the whole 'vista/jumping puzzle' system, so I don't think they'll add them here.

I don't have the time to play 99.99% of MMO's (as if there were actually 10,000 MMO's out there).  Is there any argument againt wings / gliders?  Beyond several words that is...

That might be a compelling reason, it would break the game.

You mean Vanguard? Or do you mean LotRO?

But lets look at all the GW2 fanboys trying to pretend that flying isn't cool.

I'm pretty sure its a scientific fact that flying is bitchin'.

I think thats what the poster meant .. I mean it's not like Aion had 4 million subscribers or anything.

I loved gliding in Aion. Nothing else in that game though, but gliding yes. That said, it has no place in GW2.

Flying would do wonders for a world that feels fairly constrained.

If it's only about he gliding thing, you just don't start a topic with "Aion had better movement mechanics" ...

"movement mechanics" includes ALL movement mechanics. That would mean Aion had better use of dodging, better use of teleport, better use of charge, better use of knockbacks, etc.

Please people stop creating threads without thinking twice about your title.

That would make a lot of the vistas far too easy...

No, thanks. No gliding and no flying for me.

LOL "better movement mechanics" Talk about misleading title thead...

You're just whining because you want to glide

Oh and please no gimmick glinding in GW2 that would just ruin vistas and jumping puzzles. Keep this "glide" thing in Aion.
