Whats the deal with tranfering characters from one sever to another? will it cost money?

for now, if you take one of their planned transfers, no. it doesn't cost a penny.
Later on there was the plan to open the Open Transfering Service and that is prolly gonna cost a nominal fee for treansferring characters.

IMO its pretty much used to transfer your chars to a less populated server, or to use a realm that a friend might be on. Makes it more fun without having the hassle to start a new character on the different realm.
IIRC the Everquest character transfer cost money, but I'm not sure about the WoW one.
