Remote exploration in TSW -- What's it like?

MuratReisMuratReis Member UncommonPosts: 73

I downloaded the trial and played for a bit. The game looks great and I like the skill system and all that but there is one huge flaw: the game seems to be on tracks.

For the entirety of my game time, I followed paths in closed in spaces. I dinn't notice massive open areas where one could get lost in remote landscapes for hours.

Are my observations correct or am I missing something?

Thanks.

I just looked at the price -- a bit more tha $62.00 US! And there is a monthly fee and a microtrasaction store. Where do these companies get off? (Edit: 29.99 on amazon!)

    To OP.

There are locations that are very rich in the overall appeal. The asthetics of the game are very good. NPC's that you come across are voice very well and the overall atmosphere of the game is deep and detailed.

Unfortunately your POV does hold some truth. Areas are not very expansive as in the likes of a Rift perhaps. I wouldn't say you are on rails though (Something like SWTOR). Even though areas aren't very large the content within is very fleshed out.

To answer your question flat out, there's not any areas that will really take you hours to explore. Finding lore locations will still take you some time. They are tucked away in odd and dangerous places sometimes depending on your AP / SP count.

PM before you report at least or you could just block.

The Playfields get bigger as you progress, Its fully possible to get lost in Egypt for example.

Im not gona lie, These are are not "open world zones" but large rectangular maps.

you will probably not get lost in the first zone while doing the quests, if you really wanna get lost, avoid using the map and following quests, I tell you this because most of the quests try to keep you near another quests so you don't have to walk for hours to find new quests, that is probably why you feel this way about the game.

one thing I noticed was that after doing every NPC quest in a zone there was always a huge part of the map still unexplored, what I did was explore it, you will find lore pieces, green quests, lair mobs, nightmare mobs, rare mobs, you will get lost and find some really cool places.

anyway, if you really enjoy getting lost, you will like egypt.

I played 3 months of beta and am about to complete 2 months of the live game, I'm still enjoying a lot, the game just nailed it for me, but maybe you will not enjoy it as much as I do since it is a very niche game...

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to give it another try and this time spend more time playing. If I like it, I'll but it.

I played it. Enjoyed it a lot. I'm right on the edge of buying it. I'm just worried that the game is basically a bunch of quests and nothing more.

The quests ARE the one of the best parts of the game.  The group instances are also amazing, extremely challenging and fun.

But really, if you're not enjoying the quests, i suggest against buying the game.

I bought the game: it came down to  re-subscribing to SWTOR or buying TSW. The decision was easy. I enjoy the quests I just hope there is more to the game. Grou-work in instances should be fun and there is always RP. It would be great if some sand-box like content was thrown in for end-game, like an open area with lots of strong beasts that drop money/something else good that needs a big teams to travel through. Anyways, I'm glad to be here and once my membership is processed, I'll be playing!!

what you describe is exactly what Lairs are, try reading this http://forums.thesecretworld.com/showthread.php?t=55498

Funcom is also adding new stuff to these lairs in the Issue #2 update (Lair quests), they want Lairs to become an alternative form of endgame for those people that prefer open world PvE than dungeons and raids.

Thanks for the link. I'll read it.

Doesn't seem like they want me to buy the game, though -- payment has been pending for about an hour.
