hellopes,
Yeah so, two days ago I decide to go back to MMO's after taking a month off. I played WoW for 8 months since launch and just got disgusted with it eventually. That's the last MMO i had touched. I went looking for another MMO... and i come across EVE. So i think about it for a sec and decide "what the hell", and resubscribe (i had an account i played for about a month and a half , this was over a year ago). I log on and quickly find a corp to join etc.. but once again I'm mostly just sitting there waiting for my skill to slowly build up.. says 1day 19hours left. I'm like I want fun NOW not in two days... so I log off. Next day, I'm still achin for a new mmo to play, I go to the store with a friend and see the Final Fantasy XI Collection for 30 bucks.. I think about it for a sec and I decide to buy it. How bad can it be right? SO after about 3 hours of struggling I get the damned game running.. I play it for a few levels but its just so... old and boring. It's so bland. So here I sit today, MMO-less and still hungry for a good online game to play. I was considering CoH, or EQ2 despite all the bad things i hear ^^. I would seriously appreciate any other suggestions, I'm willing to step out and buy a new game RIGHT NOW! Just gime some suggestions! Thanks all.

Perhaps it would help if you wrote what you are looking for in a mmorpg. like genre etc.
well the type of MMO really doesnt matter. Sci-fi, fantasy, HEROES ^^ It's all the same to me as long as it's fun. I tried Anarchy Online a while back for a few days...so that's outta the question, and so is Guild Wars. I also want a game that's got a decent community in it, possibly where I can group with ppl a lot and have some fun that way. Final Fantasy XI honestly has a pretty good community from what I've seen. I just haven't gotten into it.. it feels sort of boring at the moment, and bland like I said earlier. Maybe I should level up some more before I get to the fun? I dunno, maybe I'll give it a chance.
Either way, I'm seriously considering either City of Heroes or Everquest 2 right now. I'm leaning more towards City of Heroes at the moment. Any comments or suggestions on these 2 games? or any other games that might be good?
anyone anyone :x I'm relapsing here lols.
I suggest you try to get a trial for city of heroes first, if one exists.. I'll just tell you that I played the trial and got bored due to repetitiveness (what a word) within 2 days.
But it may be for you! Still, with MMORPGS, its best to try and get a trial/demo before you buy it because there's always a good chance that it won't be what you're looking for.
My experiences with COH and Everquest 2 are..
City of heroes: Community is fun, plenty of people online in the beginning areas, but gets VERY repetitive VERY fast.
Everquest 2: Has alot of depth, not really repetitive (imho) but the population seems kind of low, maybe its because I live in europe and there might be seperate servers for europeans and americans.
I'd say Everquest 2 is better as an overall MMORPg, but thats just my opinion..
Anyways.. there's a trial for everquest 2 I think, download is HUGE though so you'll have to be patient.. Good luck in your search for the right mmorpg
The Matrix Online is fun. Play that. People say its bad, but its really not. Its fun.
after doing a quick google search, I found this site was quite up-to-date with the current trials, you may want to look into it http://www.gameogre.com/demos.htm
I can't garantue that all the trials are still available though, but most seem up-to-date.
If I were you Id give Dark Ages Of Camelot a try.
On normal and classic servers you can gain experience while PvP'ing through there Battlegrounds. Thats the funnest way to level in my opinion.
Battlegrounds are large areas where all three realms fight for a Keep(castle). Once one of the Realms takes the keep the other two try to take it. Its alot of fun. Its level based and there is a different battlegrond every 5 lvls. Once you reach max level which is now 50 you can go out into what people call big boy rvr(Realm vs Realm) and take keeps there as well and fight in really large battles.
If you want to level at a faster rate, daoc has become alot more casual friendly lately and has Task Dungeons which are basically instanced areas with really good xp and loot.
Making a charachter and getting him to 50 is alot of fun. But you also get a specific kind of experience from pvp which lets you obtain certain special abilities called Realm Abilities. Realm abilitys give you skills like special attacks or having more mana or better mana regen, being able to cast faster, having better defense etc.
On a classic server getting to 50 and getting good gear and pvping would be it. But on the normal servers which arent quite as popular atm, you get to 50 and then get Artifacts. Artifacts or artys are very nice weapons and armor that gain specific abilitys, resistances because they level. Certain staffs can help you cast further and faster, or hit harder. Artys take a long time to get and a long time level but are very powerful out in RvR.
PVP(rvr) in daoc is definitely the best thing in the game. Crafting isnt that great but it can be a good way to make money.
Hopefully that will give you and anyone else reading this a good idea of DAOC.
Dark Age of Camelot and Guild Wars!
Saga of Ryzom, best mmorpg right now imo.
if you want a game that has anywhere near the production value of WoW, you won't find it for a few months.
everything but WoW is dead or really close to dying. The only other games that might be worth trying are DAOC, EQ2, and COH. or maybe GW but GW isn't a mmorpg. i played this back when they had the 1st trial periods and didn't care for it.
EQ2 sucks after the trial island. I used to play DAOC when it came out for close to 2 years. I recently went back to it in a trial and couldn't get into it. the graphics and controls are very clunky compared to WoW. I never played CoH but from what i hear, it sucks pretty bad.
there's tons of free mmorpgs out there, made by a lot of korean companies, but those games suck - hence why they are free.
the next really interesting mmorpg in my opinion is Age of Conan, but I think thats a long way off. DDO and Lord of the Rings Online are 2 of the closest upcoming games, but i've read some thinsg that really don't sit well with me.
