well i have to say after the last 2 yrs of jumping on and off the band wagon for every mmorpg out ther, i have to admit i am extremly dissapointed and worried.... first off, just to let all of you know, i have played all the big games like WOW, WQ, AO, Neocron, EVE, AC2, SoR, Horizons Etc Etc Etc, most players i have encountered have been through them all as well. needless to say ther are a few that are above the rest but still a long way from becoming a game that actually matters, what i mean is isnt an mmorpg supposed to be like a epic novel or even an epic video game that never ends and you can constantly immerse yourself within the story??? well all mmo's are weak, hardly any storylines, most of the releases so far are based upon lvling to get better equipment and the abilitie to fight new monsters every 2 days of grinding, and i have played games with story line suh as Eve, AO and Horizons, But OMFG who in the hell wants to sit behind a pc for 1 week to get through the equiveleant of 1 chapter in a book, literally. Eve i admit had some storyline but it was ....read 1 paragraph .....fly 20 mins without doing anything but aimlessl stare into space, then read 2nd paragraph..... missions complete... like wtf then you sitting on you ass waiting for better shit so you can find out that the next part of the story is just as pathetic.

and the thing is all mmorpgs out the suck just like this, they each have something different that most or now some others dont have, for instance Horibblerizons, with all the races, building options crafting etc, in the end all of what they try to lure players into ther game with, means absolutely jack shit, oh wait with the exception of money you can spend or dont need. very crappy game, but if you like grinding for 4 months to see what the game is all about then tickle youself to death. And finally thers the Highly Overrated WOW, i actually liked this game alot a first but after 3 months it was like WTf is it ever going to change or get better, is ther a story , anything to keep me playing.... nope. anyways enough of my rants i understand why kids and adults like these games and its not cause of content, its because of the MM(massively Multiplayer) attraction for rpg fans but people 1 player rpgs are now at a lvl that makes this crap look pathetic, give this mmo indstry 4-5 more yrs and we might actually see a game that isnt just lvling, grinding, pvp, new armor, new spell that 100s of others already have, eventually mmos will be the future but as for now i'd rather play some new sp rpgs, much more entertaining and less time consuming. peace

Man, I know what you mean. I played AO for couple years, and then WoW for 6 month. And every free trial known the man, even the GW 14 hour free trial. It just doesn't satisfy me any more. AO was my first MMO, and I was hooked on it. I was like WTF! THIS IS AWESOME! Well it died at one point. Then I went to play WoW hard core. And i did, the first month of playing I reached lvl 60. the other 5 month I pvped and did big raids and all. basically I FINISHED THE GAME. And they say they will add new content, and they do, but its the same shit, just a new zone to farm pvp rank ... YOU STILL HAVE TO FARM IT! So fater leaving WoW I have been jumping around every forums and free trial to find The Game that I would ENJOY playing, even for a couple of months. but nothing seems to catch my eyes. I just don't know man, they all freaking look the same, even those coming out, they all the same shit. a shield and a sword and a magic book and lvl grind .. same old boring shit, but better graphics. So right now I don't play any MMO hard core ... nothing. I play games like Americas Army and Return to caste Wolfeinstien and all those fps games. They at least are FUN. Maybe your right, we should just wait for like 5 years and see what happens, because right now, its all freaking hype. All the same games but different names, and the poor people like me and you  will go try all of them and be disappointed.

I've sat here for about 20 mins trying to think of something intelligent to add, and I can't. Your words express exactly how I feel (but you used more slang and spelling errors).

    Well said mate.

Yeah its pretty bad out there.. MMORPG's at the moment aren't as epic as they describe on the cover of the game.

It looks like the main reason most people play MMORPG's is because they can compete with other players and feel superior when they achieve higher level, nothing wrong with that but it just isnt what I'm looking for in an MMORPG..

Whats odd is that.. I've had GREAT fun in the open beta of lineage 1, and every mmorpg thereafter just dissapointed me, I'm not sure why, but coming back to lineage 1 now sucks because there are so few people.

The most fun I experience in mmorpgs is just after purchasing the game, the world seems so large then, and so full of stuff, and you can't even imagine how big the world is and how much stuff there is to do, but after playing for a month you've pretty much seen it all.

I've gone back to World of Warcraft again, and I liked it for a day or 2, but after that I was once again dissapointed.. Yet I keep having the urge to find and play a good MMORPG, not sure why.

I just hope there will soon be an mmorpg that will catch my interest and keep that interest for longer then 2 months.

By the way, I find that EVE is doing a great job as an MMORPG, I'm not sure if it is but it FEELS like the game is controlled by players, you can really have quite an influence on the market, you can extort people, you can threaten/blackmail them, or you can put up alliances, you have SO much freedom and things to do.. its just the whole space theme and the click-to-go-somewhere that doesnt appeal me, if they would implement such features and depth in a fantasy/ground based game with twitch combat, I'd be content for a while.

Also, I find that immersiveness really is important in a game, in the beginning I was really immersed in the World of Warcraft, but after everyone knows everything there is about the game it simply isnt fun anymore.. and this goes for all other games out there aswell, People are spending more time discussing what item or what talent or what skill is better, rather then talking about things they encounter like monsters or places.

I could go on with my rant but I'll leave some space for others to do so ;)

MMO's are really great for creating a wondeful backstory then leaving it on the website at launch. It's depressing.

Indeed.. Lore is really important for me, but it just isnt important for most people..

I'd wish they make an mmorpg as deep as Morrowind: Oblivion, where the world kind of consumes you, instead of the community consuming the virtual world.

I know the companys are trying to make money, but some of the are just damn crocks. Like look at Anarchy Online. its like a freaking gosht town now, seriously. There NO ONE ON IT! And FC is giving a new expansion pack out! they are going to put couple trees here and couple houese here and make it a pvp area. Im guessing the expansion pack is going to be 20MB big. I mean they couldnt even resist screwing over couple thousand of loyal players that have left, lol. theres so many game out there that people just copy paste games now, they just want a part of the gold pot, they dont want to work and have new ideas and make a good game. truly sad.

You guys pretty much wrote all the thoughts in my head.  I bought the Final Fantasy XI collection yesterday in my desperate search for a decent MMORPG to satisfy my appetite at least for a bit, and surprise surprise it's another boring game (as I wrote in my other thread).  Is there ANYTHING decent out there right now?? anything?? I'm starting to lose hope.

Trigger, I know exactly what you mean about Lineage 1, open beta was SOO much fun in that game and I don't even know why lol.  It was 2d with not that great graphics, but it still rocked hard.

So yeh basically I'm in a dilemma right now, and I'm not seeing a light at the end of the tunnel =(. Not yet anyways, not for at least another year.  Vanguard actually looks like it might be something old and good yet refreshing to the genre from all the info I've read about it.  Let's hope..

Lineage 1 open beta was my first MMORPG, it felt so epic, I was really consumed by the world, I was thrown in the depths of a huge and dangerous world full of adventure, wether the graphics where crappy or not, I really felt like I was in danger when walking trough a forest, because at any moment a shelob (the brown fast-walking noob-killing spider thing) could come up to me and kill me.

The only reason I stopped playing Lineage 1 after open beta is.. because I was too young to have a credit card, heh.

Anyway.. at the moment I'll still be waiting for a good new MMORPG, Pirates of the burning sea seems quite good to me, especially since I love pirate-themed games, here's the website; http://www.piratesoftheburningsea.com/

But ofcourse, that game could be as bad as all the others.. I guess we'll just have to be patient, but I can tell you that there are many of us out there that feel the same about current MMORPG's as you.

I'm an MMORPG addict though, and I'll never give up on them, for some odd reason I can't wait to try the next MMORPG, wether it sucks or not ;)

Yeah I'm waiting on PotBS too!  It looks like it's got a lot of potential, hopefully it delivers.  Right now I'ma try to play Final Fantasy XI lol.. I'm hoping things pick up in a few levels, I figure I already bought it, so might as well give it a little more chance.

To OP - there is no perfect MMORPG, and there will never be one becuase too many different people play it: some people value questing above all, some value hoa many items are out there to make each character trully unique, and some put casual (or hardcore) gameplay above all. So you will never satisfy everyone. You seem to be a hardcore person, so WoW is not for you. Although you seem to like story and IMO WoW so far has the best storyline implemented in MMORPG world. WoW is great for casual players like myself - i dont play often and a lot, and i cant seem to concentrate on one class ( i have about 8 chars and my top level is 47, retired on PvP server)

Its realy hard to create a perfect MMORPG that would satisfy everyone, with rich and well embedded storyline, with casual leveling but hardcore highend content, with extensive tradeskills, tangible, fun and balanced PvP, with very wide range of items, many skills to use during combat... am I forgetting something? I doubt that that kind of game will be produced anytime soon, if ever. So far WoW hit the nail with their fun and casual gameplay, the other games have smaller but more devoted hardcore playerbase, smaller numbers doesnt necessarily means worse product. It just means it was designed for a different type of players. Look at Eve, it doesnt have that many players compared to WoW or EQ2, but I dont see it ever going bankrupt. Every game has something that is better then the others, WoW has very fun casual gameplay, Horizons have one of the best tradeskill system, EQ2 has realy great texture graphics and group combat style, CoH has realy great character customization, Eve has realy nice space graphics and scifi themed combat and very deep player run economy... i can go on. The point is, some games are realy great in some areas, but arent so great in others. If, by your wishes, one game manages to hit ALL of those areas then that will be the end of the MMORPG world as we know it becuase everyone will LOVE that one game, and no1 will make new MMORPGs.

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
