Pay to win is never good in any MMO.

i have to say i never understood this attitude.

either you dont like the game, then yes - it is not worth your money (and imo more importantly , it is not worth the time you can spend doing something you enjoy), or you do like it, then how the hell is 15$/month too expensive. it seems to me that it is one of the cheapest hobbies a person can have. (well unless you have to pay for inet by hour/traffic)

I bought the game box a couple of years ago because I was keen to try Vanguard.  I seem to remember liking some aspects a lot, but the world at that time was underpopulated and I didn't enjoy the game enough to subscribe.

Shame about the timing;if this move to free-to-play had only happened sooner I would have really enjoyed exploring the game again whilst waiting for GW2 to launch.  As it is, though, I've been waiting 5+yrs for GW2 and remain really excited (and hopeful) after playing betas/stress tests, so Vanguard doesn't feel like much of a draw for me just now.  I'm hoping to concentrate just on GW2 for the foreseeable future, but who knows, maybe I will venture back into Vanguard given that there is no subscription for either it or GW2.

For those who haven't tried it, and have the time, I'd definitely recommend taking a look.

Im playing VG again since the f2p model hit, havnt yet spent a dime and im having a blast. The world and chat is bussling so its very easy to find groups for all those awsome low level dungeons. Im currently fully equiped in green gear from all the revamped quest rewards and drops and i dont feel gimped at all tbh. Yes the restrictions do seem harsh when you first look at it but its really not that bad. Im having far more fun playing this f2p version of VG than any subscription game ive played since eq1. Anyone thinking of trying this game i highly recommend it. If you liked EQ1 im sure you will like VG.

I personally would rather pay for FFXIV coming later in the year.

For one, it's a preferable revenue model, for two, I hate the way SOE have treated this game over the years and allowed it fester and now want to milk it 'till death.

SE on the other hand have impressed me enormously with how they have handled the retooling and relaunch of their game, including admitting they simply fucked up.

I have loved a lot of SOE games in my past, but I have grown to loathe the company enough to not give them a penny more.

    I'll try one more time.

    "Free to play. Your way."
Their slogan for this new business model.

Can I play a Bard to level 55? Not without paying. Not very "free", is it.

If your complaint is that free to play doesn't mean a game is 100% free... we've known that for nearly 6 ot 7 years now.

It's kind of a moot point.

What you CAN do is choose what you what to pay for.

Well, a lie being old dosen't stop it being a lie.

    The point is not moot.
