Should we care about your opinion?

Do you guys even read what people write about their beloved games? I don't know how it is with you but i do not. I know it is bad and not very polite but i really don't care if you hate or love any of this games.I  play in my free time and not one single soul in this universe can bring me back to game i hate or turn me back from game i love. Do even hardcore forum members play games?  When wow started or eve online i had no time to write on forums, there was only time for work, sport and gaming. Now i see people playing new games for 1 hour and already writing tons of post all over the forums. Seriously! Should we even care??

Speaking for myself no I don't care what anyone on this forum thinks relating to opinion on a given game.  I do care about threads that present facts and the forward thinking threads about gaming in general. But what someone thinks of a particular game I couldn't give a crap. I find it facinating and immensley entertaining to watch them thrash each other over whos opinion is more valid however.

I read other peoples opinion when deciding to try out a new game. So ya, I care.

When something is espicially bad I'll comment here. Not as likely to post when everything is rosey.

In my case I am studying right now so I spend about 2 days of 3 in front of a computer, plenty of time to post then.:)

I think most posters, hardcore or not actually love MMOs even if some might be between games right now.

I think I have been playing 6-8 hours every day since GW2 prelaunched.

But no, you shouldnt care about my opinion. Listening to arguments however is a  very different thing. I can say I dont like Wow or Lady Gaga or whatever, but that is rather useless informations unless you actually are a fan of mine (which I doubt I have any).

Well formed argument is a very different thing and the whole point of forums, we discuss things.

Forums and gaming sites may not be able to influence whether you love or hate a game, but then can expose you to new games that you didn't know about.

Therein lies the problem.  Research is fine but listening to critics is hit or miss.  Who are these "critics" you speak of?  How do you know what they love or hate before even playing the game?  Their tastes could be vastly different from your own.  They could be bitter, jaded gamers as well, you never know.

You don't have to listen to opinion. You can read about the facts, look at video, play a demo, and judge by yourself.

If you are talking about MMOs, most are F2P anyway .. there is no "throw money" at them.

No, I do not really care about your opinions, including this one.

There are posters here that I do, because I know where they are coming from even if I do not agree with them a lot of the time.

    Not you though.

I definitely agree. Found many good games unknown to me by recommendation of others.

^^ That's pretty much why I care. I've found some real hidden gems in the game industry via word of mouth, and I've also made a handful of friends with the same interests in gaming. I just like discussing various opinions and that's why I'm on the forums. I don't know why you would be on the forums if you don't care, but I'm interested in what people have to say in general so I'm in the right place.

I can't really speak about whether anybody should care about the opinions shared by others - however, I'm a firm believer that everybody should be paying me large sums of money for my opinion.  That is not to suggest that if you pay me a certain amount that I will offer an opinion that you like.  Odds are that you will pay me a large sum for an opinion you do not like.

That is not my issue, mind you.  It is not my place to show you how your opinion is incorrect.  That is a waste of my time.  Much like it is a waste of your time not to accept my opinion 100%.  Seriously, I have always been amazed that people could find ways to disagree with something that I said.  I say "find ways", because obviously what I say is so correct - that a great deal of effort must be made to find ways to disagree with my opinions.

I refuse to call my opinions fact, as you may have noticed.  Facts do not change.  My opinions do change.  I am not swayed by anything that anybody else may say or do, though.  No, my opinions are not so fickle as that.  Depending on how much diet Mountain Dew or Cheetos I have consumed can definitely affect my opinions though.  That's not an opinion, btw, that's a fact.

So even if it is something that I have absolutely no personal experience with in the least, there is little doubt that everybody should care about my opinions.  I dare say, they should pay me large sums of money for them.  I know there will be a few stragglers out there that choose not to care about my opinions, but in a twisted way - by choosing not to care about them, they have shown enough disinterest to show they care.

But that's just my opinion, and you can take it or leave it.  I don't share my opinions because I care if you care; I just share them because I have a free moment and I really do not like that lady on the Progressive commercials.  Still though, I think everybody should pay me large sums for them...

I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

I couldnt care less what other people say about a game whether I like it or not, people have different tastes.  Most negative comments tend to come from delequint teenagers that have an attention deficit disorder, some just start threads to stir up a hornets nest and sit back and smile at their screen as they succeed in starting a verbal war between the community.

Why visit a game forum if you're not going to read other players' opinions of games?

I learned last night that some people only listen to those people that agree with them. Everyone else gets blocked. After some time, they are finally able to convince themselves that they are right about everything, because everywhere they look people agree with them...

Interesting.  We've actually gotten to the point where people are afraid of contradicting opinions.

I wonder how posters have added me to the block list since my opinions are generally in the minority.

    I care!!

When people post bad things about a game i loooove, I get my feelings hurt and have to make a rebuttal! It's personal

Seriously though, I'm perfectly capable of spotting valid critizism amongst negative posts and seperate the trolls and the bitter jaded opinionated ones, from those with an actual point. They former stick out like a sour thumb.

What I find useless however is the overly positive posts. I'm more likely to disagree or agree with a negative opinion than forming an opinion on positive posts, which more often than not is based on "being in love" with something

When I see certain types of posts, they usually fit into certain categories:

A valid criticism post  = Honest, open, hope for improvement, normal person

Rabid fanboi post = Trying to sell me something, Blind love, liar, win at all costs, zealot, insane, won't listen to reason

Rabid Hater = Dick, attention whore.

I value people's opinions when they are rational and serious. Mostly, it's when a new game comes out that I check to see what the general population is saying so I don't waste my time. I don't often post my opinion about games because people like to argue about how they are right instead of taking it into consideration and explaining why they feel the game could greatly improve.

I played WoW up until WotLK, played RoM for 2 years and now Rift.
I am F2P player. I support games when I feel they deserve my money and I want the items enough.
I don't troll, and I don't take kindly to trolls.

Therein lies the problem.  Research is fine but listening to critics is hit or miss.  Who are these "critics" you speak of?  How do you know what they love or hate before even playing the game?  Their tastes could be vastly different from your own.  They could be bitter, jaded gamers as well, you never know.

They could be.  Or they could be over-excitable fanbois.  Either reveals itself through the nature and quality of their commentary, presuming the commentary has actual meat to it.  Posting history can also be telling, if there's enough of that as well.

When I read any review, whether it's formal or informal, casual or professional, I look for more than just whether or not the reviewer liked the game.  I look for why they liked or disliked it.  If that's not there, then yeah: the opinion is worthless.  But otherwise, it's pretty much the only source of data one will find (outside of the game's official marketing campaign, which we all know is inherently biased as well.)

Professional/semi-pro critics are more likely to have "meat" behind their opinion, but any amateur who puts in the effort to do the same is worth at least hearing out as well.  IMO anyway.

I know there are some posters here whose opinions I value - having been on the boards for a while you get a feel for people, for their levelheadedness, their objectivity, and their taste (whether it's similar to your own or vastly different). I say "some", not all. I can count them on two hands.

I have little time for the "my game vs your game" taunting that goes on everywhere, mostly because I don't identify myself to any extent with the game I play, same way as I don't take umbrage if people don't like the same books/music as I do. People have different tastes, there's nothing wrong with that. Fanboys and haters are wearing the same blinders imo.

I will say that forums in general thrive from differences of opinion, what would we all talk about if we agreed on everything - it'd be pretty boring...I can imagine the pixellated tumbleweeds breezing across my screen.

You need extremes in point of view so you can find the truth that lies somewhere between all the proclamations of glory and the condemnations of doom.

I left MMORPG for a long long time because I got tired with forum posters. Everyone who hated a game would be pissed at whoever posted they liked it. Everyone who liked a game would go nuts at someone who posted valid criticisms.

People like to talk about how innovative a game is or how it invented features that some MMOs have had for 13 years (how hard is it to really look that up before deciding a game invented something). Other people say that anyone who doesn't like F2P is wrong. People who like subscriptions say anyone who likes F2P is wrong.

The forums are just a giant argumentative mess where everyone just attacks each other all day. No one comes out an actually intellectually discusses topics and issues.

    So in short, no.
