It's fine. You're just addicted to geargrind based games. There is nothing wrong with it.
You sure you are not trying to convince yourself this as to make that nagging feeling its all going to be over very soon bearable? Your points seem to be get out of jail excuses for when you stop playing.
Or he may just enjoy the game for years to come... the difference of opinions and tastes is something I would expect a so called "spotlight poster" to understand... but I lost that illusion long ago.
What will your out of jail card when GW2 bearks sales records before the end of the year? Oh yes, I already know it: "it's F2P, there's no sub, so you can't count!".
If it breaks sales records I will comeback and make a heartfelt apology to all who post on this site that I was wrong, but we have to establish what sales records it needs to break first. But when it doesn't break sales records, I shall expect the same from all you "fans" of the game to do likewise. Lets see who will be correct and I very confident I'll win but then you'll probably be championing the next "saviour"

I started playing MMO's back in 1999 with Ultima Online. Ever since I have moved on, I hardely found a MMO that could hold my attention like UO did (GW, WoW, EQ2 & AoC however did for a bit). But I felt like everything started to be the same after awhile. Slowly I drifted further and further away from MMO's and basically quite totally in 2009.
However Guild Wars 2 caught my eyes, mainly because I really enjoyed GW1, and so far I have to say that I am actually back to having fun in a MMO. It seems fresh enough for me, that it is holding my attention. It does not seem so much about gear, rather than skill and it does not cost me monthly to play, so I can take a week break if I so feel so.
Overall, GW2 did a good job in getting me back into the genre. I think it is a nice breath of fresh air.

Since GW2 isn't your bread and butter why not move on to the game you like ...take a breath of fresh air and try a positive outlook

Really I do never understand why gamers are occuping themselves with sales. Are you a gamer or an investor? I really do give a rats ass how many AreaNet is going to sell. Clearly I hope enough people play for them to keep the servers online, but I hardly care for records or whatever. So hey, you go ahead and "win" it. I just be enjoying a game and happy to "lose" then. Then again I am not sure what we winning and losing, but still...Even if at the end of this month they close down the servers I most likely spend more hours in this game then I have done on most games released the last few years.

How did I know people would be discussing sales by the 3rd page? Oy...
Anyway, I agree, this is the best MMO experience for me in a long long time. I play MMOs mostly for the combat, and GW2 has the best combat I've ever tried. The fact that I can earn points simply for exploring is great too... best of both worlds, and usually I'm not even an explorer. A big improvement on GW1 overall.
Having said that, I'm not against playing another "Trinity based" game further down the road, but it'll be a while. I think a lot of people wanted/needed this breath of fresh air.

Why is that matter of taste and opinion come to question only when people are defending their favorite MMO? i mean why not use this same logic even when people are discussing MMOS they don't like? it really puzzles me.
I just dont get it.. And its annoying. Really wanted to GW2 to be "my next big thing".
Combat - gets boring and dull fast. You're using the same skills from level 10 to level 80.
Hearts, yeah a good thing to stay at "x" spot. But really? Kill X and Y, gather this, and defend blablabla.. ZSzzZZzZ
What are you doing at level 80, thats sooooo enjoyable ?
Exploring, Crafting, being a completionlist do you know how much stuff there is to explore!!! If you walk everywhere you'll be surprised by what you can find!

Never start a reply with an internet meme the reason I post in threads like this is that they are basically pointing at others who may not like a game as being inferior, if you like a game please talk about it not make threads that have little to do with the game and more to do with pointing the finger at everyone who may find fault in the game and this is what this thread is.
The Korrigan started a thread about favorite cities I'm not in there condeming anything or threads about classes, combat, WvWvW, sPvP, the non-trinity, races, roleplay etc.. I'm reading them and gathering information to make a informed decision on whether to buy the game or not. Critique should be welcomed not waved off as hating, critique improves things, critique highlights things, critique cuts through rhetoric and bullshit, critique makes better games.

Yea, ive been having more fun in GW2 than any other mmo released to date. Its up there with SWG as far as fun factor goes. Its nice to see something different and fun for a change.
Just ignore Calerxes. He's one of the standard trolls posting in just about any thread where anyone says anything about liking GW2 trying to convince them that they dont actually like it, its all an illusion, and they cant actually think for themselves.... so better to let him think for you. Nobody has a valid opinion but Calerxes. If you feel differently, he will try to convince that you dont, and that you actually do agree with him.
That seems to be a disease common to most if not all "spotlight posters" to be honest ;-)

And I love your post in the wow forums regarding the poll about buying m.o.p:
"Lol you have 30% of gw2 deffenders. Yes we did and yes we will buy every single wow expansion forever and yes my realm is full of players and yes i wait only few sec for any bg. Why you have 37% gw2 fANS ON THIS VOTE? I give you the answer-- because they do not enjoy anymore in their game, and you have less wow fans because they play wow.Simple as that-You can't compare cheap f2p game with Blizzard giant, with king of fantasy theme park mmo's. And yes gw2 is simple theme park mmo without any inspiration. There is no lore like in world of warcraft and there will never be. Give a sub to gw2 and you will stay on 50k subscribers. Even if millions of players play this game ANet will earn 5% of Blizzard income because they do not spend money on this game. You can do what ever you want but name of the game is important., you can't have a champion with name like guild wars-you must have word warcraft in your beloved game. And MOP is awesome it is like any expansion from wow--unreal, awesome, amazing."
I try to approach every MMO with those four furndamentals in mind. Makes each MMO experience much more rewarding in the end. Difference for me is light and day, I find. Whereas others were not able to find enjoyment (or limited) with other games released this year, I found each and every one a lot of fun.
If you take that "rush to end-game" mentality away, you'll find that there's a lot more to these games than people see.
Kudos.
Edit: Now that you are able to experience this, try to go back to other games with this mindset. You might find those other games have a lot more to offer than you originally thought!
You mention combat being exciting, yet I feel extremely gimped. No its not cause I'm bad, but because the controls in the game are not very smooth. To me combat should be skill based, not because of how it controls but because what you do to play it. I wish they had either a simple targetting system or an aiming system (aim prefered) not the mess of what seems like a mix between them two and leaves me feeling so disoriented in trying to hit something and my character does anything but hit them.
You must be doing something wrong since I find my self hitting everything always just the way I want to unless they are dodging.
Only explanations I come up with quickly is that you are out of range or facing the wrong way since you can use abilities in this game even if you are in a position to not hit anything.
Anyway OP, I mostly agree with you. Just logged off from playing for four hours straight which is something I haven't done in a game in a long while. I've played MMO's going back to EQ, and I do feel that - for me at least - Arena has gotten something very right. I admit i'm very much the sort of gamer who likes to do whatever may come. I'm not a structured efficient player, not in a hurry, not overly concerned about doing things in the optimal order. I like to just get online and look around, explore a bit. Do some pvp, do some wvw, craft a bit, hang out and chat to people on Mumble., etc and GW2 seems to cater very well to that style of gamer. I'm sure it's not for everyone, but for those it is for, it's great.
And for me the combat is just right, much more enjoyable than WoW combat ever was. I'm looking forward to making some alts soon and seeing some of the other storylines and starting areas. I can see a lot of depth in the PvP combat, especially in teams, which is no surprise considering GW shone in that arena.

I find the leveling pve in tsw better (although gw2 would be number 2 much prefer it to your wow style hub approach) And I sort of miss the whole meta gaming aspect of eve Only going of ac, but I think tsw & Aoc and probably a few others do dungeons better, but I'm not that bothered about dungeons
But... I like gw2 a lot, its a good all rounder, it does most things good. I guess some would see no raids as a flaw, but to me personaly its a bonus, and there are plenty of other games out there that look after raiders very well.
I think my favorite thing about GW2 is that it always seems like there's something to do right around the corner. Working on a quest, see a resource node, UH OH a dynamic event just popped up! And I love that everything gives EXP.
Because i havve learned to accept a game as it is.
Because i have learned to enjoy the small things again.
Because i have learned to play to have fun again.
Because this game is actually different then all the other games released in the last 10 years.
Because Combat is so engaging with an incredible amount of depth.
Because my friends are enjoying the game too
Because i am immersed and enthralled by a beautifull world every time i log in.
I could give many more technical reasons, but they have all been explained till death. Point is this is not a power gamers game, and not an achievers game and it might actually never become one of those. This game is for the majorrity of gamers, the casuals, people that take time to appreciate things and enjoy content.

The same you've done in the last 80 levels.
I mean... you are playing to have fun right? it's not like you see leveling just as chore to do before starting geargrind raids?
It's not annoying if you don't get it. It just isn't the game meant for you. A more "standard" game would be better.

Although people aren't willing to admit it, you are probably right. There's a reason it's been the #1 MMO for all this time. It is/was fun.
