You mean no extra fee if you own CoV and CoH at the same time?

Edit: Well that is good news for all those who are going to play both ::::20:: Gz

And before anyone screams about the NDA, I'm sure CoH people are getting the news right now also.

I'm so happy, I could tinkle...

Isn't city of villans just an expansion? I got this newsletter also. It struck me as kind of odd that they would say this. I wonder if you just have city of villians you can't create a good guy. Then I guess that would make sense that they say it is a stand alone version and the origional is not included.

I don't know i am confusing myself. Still saying that an expansion doesn't need an additional fee is wierd.

I don't get it, i thought CoV was an expansion? does this mean you buy the game and then it's f2p?

CoV is a stand alone game, you don't need CoH to play it, and they were going to charge like an extra $5 a month to be able to play both games which I thought was BS.

    GREAT NEWS!

I think there is talk of integrating the two different worlds together so that the COH and COV teams can duke it out.... of course that is a rumor.

Witty saying to amuse you goes here.

no its a expantion to coh you pay the 14.99 a month!stop thinking free!!!image
  • darkmandarkman Member UncommonPosts: 767

It's not free to play. There is a monthly fee. However, for those who already subscribe to City of Heroes, there will be no monthly fee.

And City of Villains is a stand-alone game, though chances are many of CoH subscribers are going to play CoV. Especially considering there will be no extra monthly fee.

God I need to go get a copy of CoH and play it.

  • PuoltryPuoltry Member Posts: 956

Well really how could they justify it?

If it is going to anything even similar to CoH there is no way they could ever justify it.CoH is good for about 2 months of play or whenever 50% of your SG quits to go make their own SG.

    Want to ENJOY an mmo?

Dont start a guild and dont be a leader or volunteer to be coleader or captain.

    Just play the damn game:)

In relation to the character migration question. There is an interview on the front page of MMO where one of the devs answers this by saying... "we will see" basically. So changing your L50 hero to a villain has neither been confirmed or denied at this stage.

They have confirmed that Villains will be able to reform and that heroes will be able to fall to the side of Arachnos -- but that they will not allow it till down the road --
Otherwise you'll have all these level 50 heroes turning evil just to grief the newbie villains.

Perhaps I can help elucidate the situation for those having trouble and still thinking CoV is an expansion:
SWG: Jump to LightSpeed was an expansion.
If you didn't own the base SWG game, JTL was worthless. As would be RoW.
One can buy CoV and play quite happily without ever touching CoH -- it is it's own game with actually more content on it's own, than CoH on it's own. Buy both, and you have m ore than double the content of CoH, the abiulity to build bases for your heroes, 4 extra char slots per server, and access to all the crossover pvp zones.

Think of CoV as an entirely different game that just happens to take place a few miles down the road from CoH. As a 'neat thing to do' they have some zones that overlap. But those who want to play CoV and never see Atlas Park, there's no need to buy CoH. For those that play CoH and have no interest in seeing Port Oakes or ever being evil, there's no need to buy CoV. For those that want to occassionally switch sides or play one off the other, buy two boxes and only pay $15/mo.
(sweet deal since CoH collector's editions are on clearance at Target for $15 right now)

Nice work Qwirk, an explanation befitting the devs themselves.

As I understand it your 100% correct.

    No

Its free ONLY IF you have CoH and playing that as well. Dont misunderstand

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

THis is definitively a great news : I have stoped my account around 6 months ago and was interested by City of Vilain for a long time.

Now it's clear : I will be a Vilain ;). Can't wait to have more information about the beta !

It's an expansion/standalone game depending on which way you look at it!

For many people it will be an expansion for COH but some will buy COV and not COH

I still do not get what is so big about this?

If it were the other way around id see the error, but this just seems weird to me.

I understand what they are doing, I am just asking why, cause it seems stupid.

You know what I don't like about you, posting this? You don't post the WHOLE letter... I just read the WHOLE letter..

    Quote:

"Last night we announced some BIG news. City of Heroes® subscribers will pay no additional monthly fee to play City of Villains™. For City of Heroes® players who purchase City of Villains™, simply add the City of Villains™ serial code to your existing City of Heroes® account using the UPGRADE button on your PlayNC™ account management page... and set off for The Rogue Isles™! To do this, be sure to follow the instructions for 'Existing City of Heroes® Account Holders' on the City of Villains™ pre-order instruction page.

City of Villains™ is also available as a stand-alone game. Players who do not own City of Heroes® and players who choose not to upgrade their existing City of Heroes® account will pay the full monthly fee (same price structure as City of Heroes®)."

so how much does that come in use for non CoH players? None really...
