Aight well im pissed...i swapped my 2500k for a 3570k and my performance is worse then when i had a 2500k

i was running WoW in a certain area for 120+ with the 2500k now its only running 60-80 in the same spot with the 3570k

Specs now

Nvidia 660 ti superclocked

3570k

p8z77 lx motherboard

I did a fresh install of windows 7 all the updated drivers and everything still runs worse then my 2500k

Did you update your Bios?  It is odd that you would recieve a drop from swapping similiarly performing parts.
  • BattlestormBattlestorm Member UncommonPosts: 136

The other post is correct, you'll need to update your BIOS. I would recommend returning the new processor as it is not going to really add much to your performance. What you paid for the chip isn't likely worth the 5% gain. Good Luck!

When I first read the OP this is exactly what came to my mind.  The $200 spent on upgrading a CPU which definitely didn't need updating could have easily been used elsewhere.  Since we don't know all the specs associated with the OP's PC I can't say what would have been the best use of $200 but at the very least he could have added another 256Gb SSD which is arguable a better use for that money (Even if a Bios update ends up bringing performance back in line with the original 2500k or 5% above it).

OP, are you using a 120 Hz monitor, often marketed as 3D monitors?  Most people tend to use the more standard 60Hz monitor due to the cost of picking up the 120Hz versions.  The reason I bring this up is if you don't the visual difference between 60-80 and 120FPS is basically impossible to see.  This is due to the limitations of the monitor.  Which brings me to my second point, I would absolutely return that CPU and place your original 2500k back in and look to pick up a proper monitor for the FPS it produces (assuming you don't have a 120Hz monitor).

Check out this link to get an idea:

I agree w/ the post above in that an SSD drive would be a MUCH more advantageous use of the money. You could also opt for faster memory or at least memory with lower latency, another graphics card for SLI, or (if you were looking to lower power consumption) purchase a more efficient power supply. A new, faster/bigger monitor is also always a plus.

I apologized or being such a critic, I build/fix/upgrade computers for a living, which I thoroughly enjoy, so I can't help but give potentially unwanted advice.

i have a SSD and i did not spend any money on this upgrade. all i did was trade with my friend and i gave him something else and thats it no money was spent. Now im lagging more then i did with my other motherboard and cpu, the stuff i got is better but for some reason i see a much worse performance issue

    I have a 660 ti superclocked, i have a 34 inch tv 120h, 750w power supply, 4gb of ram, SSD

O.O  I remember this one now.  What was the gpu and amount of memoy you had on your old system before you traded.  I did warn you the trade was not worth it.  Most likely you had a faster component on your old system that made it perform better that the traded for system does not have.  Like a highend last gen GPU verse an entry level gaming gpu current generation.

There is ateast 1 problem I see in what you listed.  You are wasting power on a 750w PSU verse a good 550w PSU.  The 660ti does not consume alot of electricity, so your entire system does not consume enough power for peak effeciency.  Finally, you should make sure VSync is forced off in your driver options.  Typically something that caps out at a certain fps has VSync on.

What do you exactly mean by lagging?  As from your 1st post without watching the FPS counter you wont see the difference between 60fps and 120fps.............

How is your ping?  You sure it isnt something silly like your network card driver hasnt been updated properly?  How were you able to swap your windows o/s licence as you changed mobos?

Sounds like you just have Vsync enabled or something like that.

That being said - it's still above 60, and it's just WoW. Run some other stuff and see if it lags there too.

  • timmy12timmy12 Member UncommonPosts: 390

i have everything v sync off even in my video card options, so with my 2500k with the 660 ti i got 100+ in stormwind, then i got the 3570k with the 660 ti same exact spot im getting 40-70 fps. my pings in games are fine i get like 30 on WoW, i cant even try BF3 cuz it doesnt even load for me.

idk if it has something to do with the 3.0 pci-e ports or how my video cards drivers are complete crap but still with the same drivers i was getting better fps on my 2500k

Sounds like you got more going on then FPS issues in WoW if BF3 isnt even loading.  What happens when you try to load BF3?  Do you have any other gaming issues?

im pretty sure its the video card drivers, cuz this happened even on my 2500k....once i load bf3 from the website itll load then say "Battlefield 3 has stopped working" ive done everything to get it to work youtube/bf3 forums/etc nothing works so i kinda just gave up until nvidia comes out with some better drivers. Thats the only game that gives me loading errors or w/e now i see a performance drop in GW2 also with the 2500k id be in the human starting zone standing there with options on getting 70-100 fps in one spot now with the 3750k i stand in the exact same spot i get 40-70 itll go down to 30 sometimes to idk wtf is wrong with it.

Probably a BIOS update for your motherboard.

And you probably need to update your motherboard drivers as well.

Does it have all the latest updates, or is it locked out from updating.

Ok sorry if you have checked and double checked this.

So for the record your gfx card is plugged into the blue PCI-e slot?

You have turned off the onboard GFX card in the bios settings, and confirmed the PCI-e slot is running at x16 (download cpuid and check)

In the bios the memory is being clocked at the correct speed along with the CPU?

Have you got anything in the background confirming what the CPU is doing?  Are you sure its not just clocking lower for some reason?

Can you describe the type of lag you are getting?  Character movement and teleporting?  Everything going slow?

My video card is in the Blue pci slot yes and im pretty sure its running 16x heres some screenshots im not sure were it would say tho i dont see it.

The lag is like normal lag i guess? screen lag, lags when i move the camara, etc

Little concerned with that 1st screeny as the core should be at without looking i would think 800-1ghz now it may because it is idling, but also the lack of memory could be a driver issue.

However, it could also be CPUID.

On another note the other screeny doesnt look too good either as im certain your bus speed should be higher, your core speed as well even at idling i thought would be higher.  Someone who has more knowledge of cpuid though needs to answer this.
