Darksiders 2 -- PC

 DO NOT BUY.

For those of you like myself who happened to have the day off, and would like something to do ...  spare yourself the waste of time and money on this title. It's literally the worst console port I have ever had the misfortune of adding to my library.

Examples :

1. Camera has absolutely no options, which leaves you with an over the shoulder cam that tries to auto correct for every bump in the terrain. Apparently the people that port these games over have never touched a PC before and don't understand that I use a mouse .. and really enjoy adjusting the camera and balancing it myself.

2. Ability selection. Want to use that nifty new teleport slash, health potion, or any other ability you've obtained ... No PROBLEM.

Just hit tab ... utilize the lock-picking type radial menu, make sure your on the right ability ... now hit space bar.

Or you could add the ability to a hot key, with ... what? The handy in game menu which allows for key customization? Nope..

Edit -- Finally figured out how to add hotkeys. Hit O and rotate to the last tab, the game controller tab . Now rotate to the last tab of that, which is your key binding tab. Way to make that as obscure as possible... now to test it out.

3. Want to dodge in a certain direction while maintaining a target? No problem ... just hold shift,  now press a directional key { w a s or d } and hit alt at the same time.

4. Want to adjust the graphics? Nope -- V Sync and resolution , thats all you get.

There also a nifty message at launch  which states they utilize some form of tracking software in conjuction with the software. I'm sure it's harmless but the way its just thrown in, and the wording raised my concern  ... when normally it wouldn't.

Game wasn't really designed for use with Mouse/Keyboard. I use a 360 controller on my PC, and none of those problems exist for me.  Have put about 6 hours into game already, and having a blast.  As far graphics options.  Go look at Dark Souls PC port, then come back and try to complain.

    In War - Victory.
    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

The last bad console port I purchased was Medal of Honor =/

This pretty much puts the nail in the coffin,  no more day one purchases of Console ports no matter how bored I am.

It really is worth a $40 investment to buy a 360 for PC controller.  It's fantastic because games like Arkham City or Darksiders that should be played with a controller can be played with a controller, while FPS and strategy games can be mouse and keyboard.  Eliminates many complaints that would otherwise be there for bad ports.  I didn't mind ES:V's menus, for example, because they were built for controllers first and I used a controller.

Sorry OP, but I've had a blast with Darksiders 1 on my PC those few years ago. And most people who already got Darksiders 2 are telling me it's still a blast on their PC(though I can't confirm if they have an xbox-controller or not).

Guess the game isn't your style, but there's no need to beat it to the ground like you did. Yesterday there was a column posted by someone here on mmorpg saying it's an awesome zelda meets death experience.

The last time I had a truly great keyboard / mouse experience was with Advent Rising lol

Your complaints seem to be focused on the KB and Mouse inputs. What I'm curious about is how the game plays with the intended input schema i.e. the controller. I'd imagine just fine considering most modern console/PC games have ported over the exact controller functionality as the 360. As a PC/Console gamer I tend to prefer this because I get to play it like a console but with the power of a PC.

Ever since 360 controllers have pretty much standardized controllers on PC games I have had a severe drop in console purchases as I buy all of the cross platform games on PC now.

I'm liking the game so far, enough to actually purchase the first one also. I am disappointed by the lack of graphics options. You can only change the resolution, turn on vsync, gamma correction and a full screen toggle.

So anyway, I went into Nividia control panel and basically turned everything I possibly could to max setting and the game looks much better now. However, I did the same with Darksiders 1 and it looks much better than Darksiders 2.

This is what I don´t understand. People buy any overpriced sh!t for their NASA-computers, but then refuse to use a game pad where it fits.
Same goes to some of TotalBiscuits videos.

When I played on a C64 decades ago, I never thought "Hey, I refuse to use a Joystick. Let me play this game via keyboard, since my computer does have so many keys."

PC + 360 controller = best console ever

I've got to say I disagree. I think you are being a bit of a drama queen over a couple of minor issues. Instead of finding a workaround or solution you decide to throw a temper tantrum publically on the forums.

TLDR- Blew things out of proportion instead of taking 5 minutes to figure things out.

Played and finished it on PC. Played it with mouse and KB and found the controls to very good, but at the same time I played AC2 with mouse and KB just fine, while people said it was impossible to play without a controler, so this differs I guess from person to person.

The camera is a bit wonky sometimes, but it was only a few times that it inconvinienced me, it usually was fine.

The key binding menu is a bit hidden, it's true, but has everything rebindable which is nice and the way it should be.

You can press F to have an enemy targeted without having to keep shift pressed.

On the graphics department, I agree that I would also have liked more options and that's the only problem I have with the game. Would have loved a high res pack for the PC version. Great aestetics that would have been even better with a high res texture pack.

Overall tho, the game was great and only has minor port issues, the biggest one being the one related to graphics. It's a good successor and great improvment over the first one.

So far Darksiders 2 is my single player game of the year.

The world is massive, the game has a great artsyle, the combat is fast and exciting and the game has a ton of replay value.

Some people complain about the port but i've had no issue with using a KB&M or a gamepad, with the latest patch you have AA, Vsync and Enhanced shadow options.

Honestly its as close to being perfect as any other single player game that released this year... Much better than KoA, ME3, Max Payne 3 or Diablo 3.

My hats off to THQ for this one.

    Playing: Nothing

    Looking forward to: Nothing
