I like to know more about the general story and world

thekid1thekid1 Member UncommonPosts: 789

I know there are elder dragons who were awaken and destroyed part of the world but that's it.

I would like to know more. also some short information about each race and the world in general.

If anybody has a link or could write a short summary that would be great.

I thought that are you are active in the forums and saw you in threads often that you would already know about such things but there you go:

Guild Wars 250+ years ago: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page

Lots of infos there about everything around the game (lore included)

Guild Wars 2 lore and backgrounds here at the middle bottom of the page: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Main_Page

You can also read ANets blogs cause there are partially backstory and lore for the minor races among other things aswell:

    http://www.arena.net/blog/

There are also books like Ghosts of Ascalon and Destinys Edge that are a interesting read.

Hope you will enjoy the lore cause I definately do! :)

    LORE before GW1 http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Lore

    Lore before GW2 http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Lore

If you want to learn about it in a more "natural" way, talk to NPCs in the game who have names and are near POIs. They reveal a lot about the game's lore, even little stuff like "this island was bought by my great gandfather and has servered bla bla bla"

Humans used to live in Lion's Arch (the part sunk in the bay), but that city got trashed by a tital wave caused by Zhitan raising Orr.

The Asura used to live underground and ensalved both the Skritt and the Drudge, but got driven to the surface by Primordus wakening.  The Dwarves turned to stone and are now below the surface fighting him.

The Sylvari are 25 years old, being born from a tree that was from a planted seed some 300 years prior.  The tree grew by a tablet from a wise old Centaur named Ventari (sp?), in which they use that tablet as their teaching and following.

Charr were evil, still are somewhat.  They have a treaty with the humans, though they did try to wipe them out centries ago.  This culminated in the sinking of Orr, and with the invasion of Ascalon that caused the king to use the Foefire.

Honestly, there's so much more lore, but I'm too tired to type it out and instead recommend buying and reading both books as well as just playing through the game's story missions and reading the lore peices.   Enjoy.

The general story is, you're a human like all the NPCs who can't defend themselves, but somehow you alone get a magical bow that shoots infinite arrows, and are able to slay thousands of centaurs by yourself, but still need to throw water at cows to get stronger to kill bigger centaurs.

At least, that's in my experience.

Nonsense! Charr are just as good as everyone else, humans took their  lands first and charr are just reclaiming it! :P

Zhitan is a centaur? Sure sounds like it in your version.

Weird because I didn't mention anything about Zhaitan or dragons.

Thank you everybody. I will also check out the Wiki links before I fire up the game tonight.

I never really am interested in fantasy lore (I think Lord of the rings sucks) especially mmorpg's but somehow with GW2 I am.

I checked out Fallout 3 and New Vegas background story but never really bothered with Skyrim for example.

Perhaps all the races working together and preparing to battle the elder Dragons (aka apocalypse) sets the right tone. Plus with the Assura they throw in some scifi elements plus there are rifles so it's not the normal standard fantasy dribble.
