The dissapointing parts

I have been playing this game now for over 3 weeks. And most of the time its been an awesome experience..

But somehow, i cant understand why its so hard for Arenanet to repair some simple things, like people in one group ending up in different instances of a dungeon.  This is our guilds number one irritator, and we still havent seen any improvement on this.  Many people are not playing dungeons, untill this gets repaired. (after all its been 3 weeks)

Still in higher level zones i see many DE´s hang up and gone stale mid time.  NPC´s with shields above their heads just standing there.  These non functioning DE´s seem to increase in number as more people are entering the 50+ zones.

The worldwide auction market does not seem to work... to many of the same products...  Abd bo word how they think to repair this

Gold trading for Gems is much much more expensive then the chinees goldsellers, which are ruinin the game with their long lists of hacked accounts.   Where is the authentication system needed by games like this.

WvWvW queues are increasing even on underplayed servers. With WvWvW being very important for endgame the current system is totally unacceptable. Sadly the system itselves does not allow for overflow servers. In 3 more weeks these queues will kill much of arenanets good name, and there is no possible sollution for this without ruining the concept.  With just 700 WvWvw spots on every server and the ever increasing population numbers/server this is going to kill the whole PvP part of the game.

People are leaving the game behind, because of the inabbility of Anet to solve these problems in the timeframe people find acceptable.

Obviously some of these faults are design faults and hard to repair.  Its sad to see my guildies leave the game altough they actually like most of it.  But we play games for fun, and when irritations rise above the level of fun, there is something wrong. Still guildwars is by far the best MMO since WoW.  But if people cant join their friends in Dungeons or WvW, it eventually will get some people very angry.

I had never been into spinning the auction house until gw2... I dont understand how you say that is a disappointment, you can see patterns in rise and lows of certain products and buy them while low and sell while high...

And I do believe the hacker authentication issue was corrected after the regional authenticators were implemented, only people getting hacked now are the ones dumb enough to have even their e-mails with the same password as their gaming accounts.

That aside, I do feel like you make justified complaints about the current issues, SPECIALLY the way dungeons are currently instanced...

There are a few things I agree on.  Just was going thru finishing some map POI's and hearts in a level 35-40 zone and nearly all the hearts and some DE's all along the southern most part of the map to the easter middle of the map were all glitched, hung up and like paused.   Very frustrating for map completion.

The only other thing that I am extremely disappointed is with big Dragon Battles such as the Shatterer.   There are Veteran mobs in the world that are more difficult and provide a more ineresting fight with more mechanics.  The Shatterer was presented as an epic open world "Raid" style content by Anet.   This was supposed to be something that big groups of people get together and need to coordinate to take down.   We counted roughly 20-25 people participating in the event.   At no time did the Shatterer pose any real threat, he did however drop me half health once during the entire battle in melee range.   He had extremely limited animations, I think I couldn't 4 total but that might be due to the fact he died so quickly.

Its funny since I did that event I have barely logged into the game more then 1 hour.  The only other thing is Mini games, where the hell are all the mini games?????

All the things I had planned for my guild are in their current state absolutely disappointing, and I'm not expecting much, I'm just comparing the level of mechanics and animations that the shatterer has vs other veterans or mini bosses in starter zones...  Its really sad to be quite honest that they've played it and felt it was fine.

I've watched some people I've gamed with RUSH to 80 and then complain there is no progression and no reason to go back and do other stuff, just seems like some people don't get that this is a different game and should be played differently.

All that said the games other qualities are absolutely outstanding and if they can fine tune the other stuff it'll be one for the books.  Even as it currently stands its probably the best MMO experience I've had since 1995, and mind you I've played everything released since then.

There would be actually a solution, a dirty hot fix kind of solution.

Why not just seperate any Server in two WvW Homeservers. So basicly. Two WvW Servers are playing on one PvE World Server. Dirty, but doable, and a solution for the overpopulated WvW zones.

Wasnt the solution for the Dungeon problems to create a party in the dungeon and then inviting people in?

I heard this some time ago but havent been able to test it since my friends are too caught up in spvp and normal map completion

I've encountered several DE's that were bugged. The mobs in a state where they couldn't be attacked, or the event just not advancing any more. It's not a huge number, but they're there. Not a major irritator, but it's not pleasant.

The dungeon thing seems to work most of the time. In another game the trick was to have the party leader enter first and the other follow. Maybe I'vev just been lucky so far, but it's not an uncommon problem.

They should upgrade security. Longer and more complex passwords shoudn't be a problem theses days. It's hard to get your head around a company not treating this like the top priority it should be.

With more and more people hitting cap WvW will need a seriously more accessible solution fast. Avoiding the overflow server is ona thing, getting into some meaningful WvW is even harder.

Nope sorry, have to disagree. The game is perfect in every aspect and working as intended. And even on the inconceivable, infinitesimal, chance that A-net didn't get everything right with this absoloutely amazing game, GW2 is only three weeks old. Surely that fact absolves the developers from any guilt if the game was released with any flaws. Not that I think the game has any flaws. If it did somebody would have pointed them out prior to the game's release.

I just don't get it. Why is there always some vocal minority that tries to ruin these magnificant games for eveyone else by continually pointing out their petty precieved flaws and imperfections? Why can't they just be shinny, happy, and oblivious? They must just really HATE MMOs. I guess some men just want to watch the world burn.

With my warrior I didn't run into serious bugs til level 65+, I ran into about 6 or 7 broken encounters with my guardian before I hit level 20.  For example the cow-tapult that launches you on top of Tower with a vista in Charr's low level zone is *completely broken* - when you get to catapult NPC big red letters accross the middle of your screen "this content is curently disabled, please try again later" - I was like WTF?

Other stuff is killing a mini -dungeon boss - the loot chest failed to trigger, DEs bugging out and resetting for no reason.. it's been pretty bad over the last couple of days.

There's a new one where in general PvE - some mobs just go IMMUNE to any attack in the middle of combat - it happens out in the open so it's not like they get stuck in the world terrain, it's just strange.

I am not sure what's up, I hope Anet is addressing this ASAP - games are supposed to have *less* bugs as time goes on not more...

rofl!  I've played Lotro and WoW and seen new bugs crop up out of nowhere like this.  Same is happening with GW2, as many of these bugs weren't there in the first week, albeit they had the whole trading house issue.  I've gotten to 98% map completion and have stopped due to about 5 different skill challenges being broken in Orr zones.  They weren't like this until the last few patches, so something broke recently, which tends to happen with any program with long lines of code interacting with other lines.  Please have some sympathy for coders and the work they have to do just to find bugs and hope they can find everything they are attached to.  I don't care who the company is, they ALL have this, it's part of the industry whether it be games or other computer software.

That being said, I don't do dungeons because dungeons to me aren't very fun past the first time and the dungeon gear isn't worth that much of my time to farm for.  Maybe a reduction in token cost is in order.  Second, WvW...not sure how that can be fixed as I tend to only go there during off peak hours and have trouble getting in.  The problem is PEOPLE not the game, essentually.  Maybe they should make 2 different WvW game fronts, although that might take a long time to develop, but it would help split people up and get more people playing WvW.

I've been a big fan of the game so far and am having a lot of fun.   That said, the main thing that does frustrate me is the bugged DEs.   Most of the time I don't see them at all but sometimes I'll just hit several bugged ones in a row.   Happens more frequently in the 60+ areas which haven't been tested as much.      Get the npc with the shield above his head that you're supposed to lead somewhere or protect from incoming waves...yet the npc doesn't start moving or attacking waves never come etc.

Every once in a while I'll get a bugged one in a lower level zone but that's very uncommon.

  • XzenXzen Member UncommonPosts: 2,607
Agree. I'm having fun with the game but the DEs and some of the other bugs poping up are annoying.
  • CenthanCenthan Member Posts: 483

I experienced much of what you wrote myself.  A few DE's were broken, however I thought it was nothing gamebreaking.  Every once in a while I'd come across a "defend" or "escort" DE where the object would either not be moving, or nothing is attacking it, or it has arrived at its destination, but the DE doesn't end.

The main issue I have with the game now is the WvW management.  The issues are similar to what you stated, and I simply don't know what the answer is to resolve it.  You either can join a low pop server and have not enough people to defend anything, or a high pop server, have the people, but have impossibly long WvW queues.

I got fed up with the server I was on tonight (Devona's Rest), and switched again (to Eredon Terrace).  The problem was just like I said, the queues are great, but that's because there is no one on, hence we owned 5 or less nodes on all maps.  It simply wasn't fun being spawn camped, so I switched servers.

Now here's the funny part, on Eredon's Terrace, it was almost the opposite.  You'd think it would be more fun being on the dominating end of things, but it wasn't.  ET was completely dominating on their border map, and they were spawn camping Isle of Janthir.  You would figure that would be more "fun", but it wasn't.  It was really the same thing as being on the losing end of it, nothing to do but stare at each other while one side melts the other.  So while I waited to get into Eternal for 2-3 hours, I had no choice but stay where i was at.  The other border maps looked like they had slightly better fights, but not much.

Here are some screens of how it looked tonight between the ET and IoJ servers.  Last count of siege before I finally got into Eternal was something like 1 cata, 5 ballistas, and 2 trebs...all right outside the IoJ spawn.

The solution to WvW queues would be open up 5 or 6 maps Instead of 4 if the servers in that pairing have big queues.

I have to agree with you on several points:

    1) Broken DE's: This is highly annoying. I have a theory as to why a bunch of them are broken. There are several DE's that are kicked off on one side of the zone. Player A has a conversation with an NPC and this starts the event. I think the problem is either Player A never goes and does the event and the event is coded to expect him, or alternatively, before Player A can get there, Player B-Z zerg the event and finish it before Player A gets there. Since he didn't participate, the code bugs out. There was one in Blazeridge Steppes that I initiated by talking to a guy on the east side. When I went to the map point, all the way on the west side, the DE boss was there, but he had the immune buff. Everyone was kiting him around complaing he was bugged. I noticed a nearby npc that I could interact with. I went and chatted with her and there was some RP and then she said she'd take care of it. When everyone got tired of kiting a bugged mob, they rushed off. He de-aggro'd and went to the NPC I spoke to. Another short RP and then his immune buff went away.

    2) The Trading Post works fine for me, such as it is. It's no where near as developed, as an interface, as the WoW/SWTOR/LOTRO or any other mmo that has an auction house. But other than that, I haven't had any problems with it.

    3) Gold is pretty easy to acquire, just don't waypoint all over the place. But yeah, the goldsellers are out in force and I'm sure a large part of that is tied directly to compromised accounts. I place the blame for this squarely on ANet. Even though people have been dumb, it's no excuse for ANet's shoddy authentication or lack thereof.

    4) WvWvW is incredibly fun in most aspects, but they obviously did not expect the response from the community they got. In this regard, they've dropped the ball in a somewhat similar manner to BW and Ilum. People spend HOURS waiting to get in. When they get in, it's frequently a zergfest. I thought the transition from 24hr matches to 2week matches would lessen this and maybe inspire some more defensive/strategic play. Unfortunately, that has not happend. Additionally, there's a reason Eternal Battlegrounds is more popular than any of the Borderlands. EB doesn't have the same 'oh, you died? get ready to run for 10 minutes' aspect. The Borderlands maps are just not fun in that regard.

    5) I don't think people are quite leaving yet as there are still countless places with overflows and this to me means they're still interested in playing the game. But I can indeed see the things you've mentioned being cited as reasons people will leave when the newness has worn off or World of Pandas comes out. I plan on sticking it out, but we'll see. You can't interpret my patience and forbearance as any indication the problems will be fixed because I stuck it out with SWTOR for 8 long months....

I did not expect anything except to just have fun. its true launch had issues and its been 3weeks? and there are still issues, but I honestly dont think any is game breaking. There is many "other" things to do in the world and I believe that is too how ANET feels about their game. Do something else. Your heart is glitched? move on, do another, theres 500+ hearts, 100s and 100s of events do them. I dont know, I just didnt expected everything to work. Maybe it was released too early. Maybe it should had been released another few months, so the glitches and bugs could be worked out. But if these issues bother so much; could always not play for a few months. Not like there is a sub fee. At least we have our 3weeks+ of GW2. Pretty much any new game these days is 60$ and honestly some dont even have 10, 15, 20hrs of playtime.

Never ever did i say that i didnt like the game. Its still a great game and i am having fun...

Tough Arenanet should really fix those irritators, And fix them fast, as people are leaving, and anyone thats leaving will not be advising their friends to buy the game.

It cant be that hard to fix the dungeon/instance bug, can it?

The main problemis that these problems are not mentioned in the game status update notes. Tough they mentioned that they are still increasing server population limits, which works contra WvWvW.

Not playing the game for a few weeks is an option for some, but not for me.

They only can create other casual (not sPvP) PvP content to give people other comparable choices.  Raising population limits will not work, its technically not possible and will make things even more zergy

    - Other WvWvW matches, having servers play against more opponents at once.

-Totally different PvP con tent thats equally atractive as WvWvW.

The IP approval should be the only authenticator GW2 needs. If that isn't working, then people have had their e-mails compromised as well.

I think some of the buggs are happening because of ANETs system that tires to preven people from farming bugged mobs. The issue is, the bugged mobs don't auto reset when they should, making it impossible to complete the DE It sucks, but I'm sure a soultion will be given in realitively short order.

I'm actually surprised some of these issues aren't already fixed though, since GW1's bugs were quashed really really quickly.

There are a few options but doesn't this one sound the best? That the zones are dynamic, the more people that demand to play, the game will open up more zones and as it thins, it closes map zones accordingly. I don't like blabbing about "I saw this one coming a mile a way", but I did, I think anyone with addition skills could see this one. Millions playing and maps that can only handle 100's. That is a rock and a hard place.

To the OP's issues, I feel these two have thrown Anet back at least a month:

Gold trading for Gems is much much more expensive then the chinees goldsellers, which are ruinin the game with their long lists of hacked accounts.   Where is the authentication system needed by games like this.

People are leaving the game behind, because of the inabbility of Anet to solve these problems in the timeframe people find acceptable. (AKA HACKED ACCOUNTS)

Personally I feel the game was 3 months to early with the addition of the lack of an open beta that should have been open weeks on end. I feel this is where the game is now. Doesn't mean you can't have the time of your life but it's not quite as polished as it should have been on about all levels. And this is beyond "no mmo is ever done", that lame statement. So it comes down to what kind a player are you: Just get me in I can deal with issues? Or do I rage when I see problems? Or I want an epic pristing experience when I do play?

Agreed.  The second I read the suggestion, bells and whistles went off in my head with so many crazy ideas.

Do it, A-Net. (not that you're reading this)

We really need separate forums for every newly launched game. There can be the anti-<MMO> one and there can be the 'what general discussion should be' one. All the lamenting can happen together where each can find solace in like minded can't-move-on-ers leaving the rest of us to actually move forward and discuss meaningful and relevant topics.

In 3 more weeks these queues will kill much of arenanets good name, and there is no possible sollution for this without ruining the concept.  With just 700 WvWvw spots on every server and the ever increasing population numbers/server this is going to kill the whole PvP part of the game.

There would be actually a solution, a dirty hot fix kind of solution.

Why not just seperate any Server in two WvW Homeservers. So basicly. Two WvW Servers are playing on one PvE World Server. Dirty, but doable, and a solution for the overpopulated WvW zones.

well thing is, with the current numbers we suffer already from poor fps (and lag) when 2 big zergs meet and you want to put more number in there?
