"Trolling haters and trolls and fanboys since 2011"
By this point it was obvious this was a baiting thread, just looking at the OPs post history. However, it was still good as a conversation starter and hope actual debate can flow from ehre on out.
Originally posted by GoldenArrow Funny though since many mmorpg's that force grouping have been a massive hit. To mention one FFXI.
I agree it was fun while it lasted. FFXI was my first MMO and I still have fond memories of it but I have to agree with a certain point wiht the OP. It was hell to level a new job until thye added the lvl downgrade system. Waiting 2-3hrs in Jeuno for a shot at a group was never fun, specially on a weekend. There should be a nice balance between solo content that can be completed in your own time or while waiting on group content. Otherwise you have people loging on and not doing anything but wait. No one wants to pay a sub for that, and in GW2 case if people have a bad experience they wont buy expansions down the line. (not saying OP is right, just what actually happens in games)
At least with a sub game they know that people won't tolerate bullshit and leave. With anet we have no recourse but to buy our own lube so our assholes don't get too stretched out from getting bent over a table at Anets will. - Hrimnir
The problem with GW2 is that although it has mechanics in place to reward the group battles, it isn't as forward thinking in social aspects as other MMOs are. The mass grouping helps and hurts the game at the same point. Combine this with no trinity and there really is no reason to talk outside of dungeons or similar experiences requiring strategy. They've made this game extremely casual, but ultimately it feels much more like a COOP console game than an MMORPG.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the game. But it is very MMO-lite.

I've got similar feelings about GW2, and I almost decided not to buy it at all because of that, but after I stopped viewing it in the same concept of more "conventional" mmos, I started to understand the allure of the game.
I think you just need to look at it as more of an action-rpg with mmo elements, to truly apreciate the game as a whole. I guess in some ways, it really hasn't changed much from its predecessor, which can be both a good or bad thing, depending on your perspective.

Absolutely. It definitely leans more towards action than RPG. Kind of like Dungeon Siege online.

Nothing wrong wiht the game being succesful just dont go calling it an MMO. If its an action RPG it is very good for what it is, kinda like Diablo 3 but better.

GW2 will suffer the same fate as other forced grouping MMOs. Remember Vanguard? A heavy group forced game? Once the population either leaves or reaches endgame...a newbie can't do ANY quest (barely), because either the game is not populated enough or/and reaches high levels. And it isn't only Vanguard. Every forced grouping game suffers the same fate. Ryzom does as well, the only thing you can do is be powerleveled by higher skilled players...no fun at all
The dynamic events are really going to suffer when everyone leaves the starter/lower level zones. Newbies won't be able to do any event, because there won't be enough people. This may not hapen right away, but a year down the line? You bet it will. Dynamic events are really group focused, and with no one in the lower zones...it just won't work. Now, the level scaling...high levels may come down...but I did this and still roflstomped everything. I had more fun in the higher level zones, personally...a lot more challenging.
Can't have forced grouping work forever, especially when the population drops or/and moves on. This is why GW2 will ultimately fail.
Yes. A horrible flop from pretty much Month 1 -- opened at 120K, dropped to 40K in a month.

Definitions of things change with time, this is a MMO for the mainstream population that caters to the market today.
You people need to deal with it, this is how THEMEPARK MMO`s are now. Seling to casuals is what gives the money now.
And this makes me so happy since it caters to my demographic, too bad for the rest of you.
GW2 will have less problems with that than those other games because the content scales and folks are downscaled in level.
In those other games lower level content is made obsolete so there's hardly any players there, in GW2 I'm for example currently doing a level 15-25 zone on my level 62 ele and will continue to do so once I reach level cap.
Even if certain / most events can't be done, this doesn't mean there's a barrier to levelling since you get exp from basically anything you do in this game, you can level to 80 from just crafting / gathering if you want to.
Only DE's with the [Group Event] tag are not meant to be done solo, others are just solo-based events that get scaled up (more mobs or more monster skills) to some extent as more players participate in the event.
TheScavenger makes a post titled "This MMO (GW2) kills all other themepark MMOs" and then makes a post titled "Why GW2 will ultimately fail"... I'm confused..

This is why ANet implemented event scalling my friend. You were not in beta right ? In beta when I reached higher level on last day I sometimes played event ALONE because people scathered in the world. And it scaled to me perfectly. It was challenging, sometimes I failed and sometimes i did not.
Before you start writing something on the internet, do some research because what you just said is wrong.
Talking from the point of a person who cleared all PvE zones at 100% and being part of a high population server, the problem of the dynamic events are twinfold:
Unless you are in the vicinity of one, you really can't tell if one is happening, unless others announce it in map chat channel.
The events generally don't fail when people are around to do them. With that I mean that it may be possible to fail an event if it's only you around, but anything beyond 3 people and the event is very unlikely to fail. So they end up becoming really repetitive in nature, since all you see is the path A to success.
To remedy these issues I would suggest that:
Events are shown if you are anywhere on the map regardless of your position. They can limit this to people who have uncovered the map points or people with 100% of current map completion. This would allow people who got tired of the end game map zones to revisit some earlier ones. After all, what's left is only karma and low level material farming at that point. That would also remedy another issue, PvE people who are forced to karma farm WvW because it's 5x times more efficient. That would certainly unclutter WvW somewhat.
Events really need alternate paths of advancement, not a fail/succeed path. 95% of the time, the events will succeed and the experience will invariably be the same for all people involved. Instead, developers should assume that this will happen and plan some random pathing from that point on.
I helped out some of my guildies with their areas tonight.
One was a level 24. Another 39. And the last was 51.
I'm level 72.
I got a very good amount of XP, karma and gold by helping out with their events and story. It's always worth it to help and play with friends in GW2. They definitely took a page out of FFXI level syncing system, one that I had hoped more modern MMOs would utilize.

Originally posted by Eluldor Done plenty of dynamic events by my self across all sorts of maps as a lowbie and as a high end character. The OP is pretty lame.
Player retention means nothing to this game. They willl crank out an Xpac every year or so and most will buy it, p-lay a few months and go back to their regular MMO logging in occasionally.
why anyone would ever go back to a quest hub linear progression MMO which is boring abnd deserted for xx levels just to do a so called end game which is just mindless military style raiding for a random chance of getting soem gear that wil be worthless next game update isbeyond me. For years now everyone has wanted a game that was not a WoW/EQ clone, well here you are
It seems even simplest thing ar beyond your understanding.

And so on.....
Someone please tell this guy that we all are different and enjoy different things in life? because i have failed to make him understand something so basic.

Because, my opinion says so.
Some. I guarantee you though there are events you can't solo.
