Well, it IS possible, but after a certain level it gets really hard, as the mobs are also getting stronger, and the time you will have to wait to regenerate will be longer too.
But still, it is possible, although i dont think i would recommend this game if you want to solo.
No...but maybe to an extend.
If you like tradeskills and want to play a nuker (elementalist), you can solo pretty well and duo or trio to a minimal.
The game system is a mix between Morrowind and Rolemaster, but strangely the world is not solo friendly, yet, it is POSSIBLE to solo much...it will just be much easier in groups. For tradeskills you rather solo!
Some stuff happen in PvP zones, so it could be dangerous, however, the player base is relatively friendly and I never heard of ganking. The players are friendly, so it would surprise me if someone attack you without a good reason and/or a warning.
The game resolve around tradeskills, so if you are not doing any yourself, you will need a guild or friends. So for elemental magic, foraging and crafting I recommend doing this solo, work the others aspects in groups. There is often a shortage of elemental oriented persons, so you prolly can have nice deals with a guild or a group of players.

You can always forage and craft while you are groupless...or work on elemental magic!
You always have something to do. But getting a group for what you want precisely is prolly worser than EQ if you can believe it, yet, you will never be waiting, always something to do (foraging, crafting, working in others groups that were not really what you want and so on).
So no, you wont be waiting, but yes, getting a group to do what you want (hunt in the right level range) is going to be hard and long.

There are always people around that are in a group that you can join up with. It is seldom people will refuse you. If you go to a region that you are comfortable fighting in and ask in that region there is almost always a group fighting that will take you.
There is a LOT of terrain to explore, and solo exploring is possible if you enjoy that and you are willing to pay a large amount of attention to the flora and fauna.
Noin.
Game is a ghost town at lower levels. Getting a group is more pure luck than anythinge else. And the soloability is nil above level 30ish.

The game is not a ghost town , i meet loads of folks around Pyr, my racial newbie city.
My highest skill is level 121 Pikeman, & i have no trouble soloing at all
So far , i find the game very impressive
Stop playing with yourself, this is an MMORPG!
Sorry, couldn't resist.
