Word of Mouth

Darkfall: Unholy Wars, like many indie games being released are often not given a proper amount of advertising. Blizzard is able to throw out television commercials featuring celebrities and have sponsored ads all over the internet. For Indie games like this one we must help to spread the word. Many people have never heard of Darkfall at all but that is where you can help. Tell your friends from other games, other forums, and other communities.

We must do our part to see that people know of Unholy Wars!

I hope it does well.  It's gaining some steam and it sounds like a good time, and frankly, the more variety in the genre the better... having said that though, I don't know any friends personally who would give it a shot due to the full loot PvP (I think I read that this feature is going to be in the game).  It's never going to be mainstream for that among other reasons, but if I try it and enjoy it, I'll certainly spread the word.  I don't see the point of telling people about a game for which I haven't seen any real gameplay.

Well, we did that the last time, and o`boy did we look stupid. Now I`m going to test the game before I spread the word. If it is the same grindy shit like last time, I`ll spread the word to avoid it like a leper.

I'm very interested in this game and will certainly talk it up if I like it, but not before.

yep, this game deserves some attention. When i see WoW commercials on TV i'm almost disgusted knowing that there are much, much better games out there that should be on that screen ( i aim to say DF UW) but simply isn't because they don't sit on a pile of money ready to throw it away on commercials, PR stunts and ''hey-we-got-candy'' tantalization.

I know AV got their priorities straight, and right now that would be to get this game rolling which we all eagerly await. They have said that they got marketing plans for DF UW and im very sure that they will get some advertisement going.  Hell some times i get the feeling that AV are the wise guys. It's like the two five year old kids given 10 dollars each, where the one kid spend all the money on candy and tells every other kid in school 'hey everyone I got candy' so they gang up around him and naps all the candy out of the kids hands, that way the kid becomes popular but has no candy left and no money. The other twin brother however uses the money wisely and dosen't wave it around immediately,in the end ends up with a much better outcome of the 10 dollars, perhaps even save it or invest in something useful. That kid is what i belive to be AV :D

    What is there to spread?

At this moment there isn't anything exciting to say about Unholy wars. No point in setting the game up for failure with unreasonable expectations.   Just let the game be until there is something worth talking about.   A closed/open beta invitation, or some in-game video would ideal to promote Unholy wars.

Im not saying a word about this game to my community until I've put a solid week into it. Too many games that look good on paper and screen shot end up being a total suck fest when you actually play them.

God, the ammount of grind at the release was totally retarded!

So many ppl left for it.. I just loved the game and felt its potential, so sticked with it..

Luckily AV fixed the grind in DF1 (too late, sadly), and I guess its gone once and for all for DF:UW

Spreading word of mouth about a movie is one thing (here's lookin at you WoW) spreading word about a book the size of a complete set of encyclopedia Britannica is another. Sure it may be more content rich than the movie, but knowing what you do about DF they ain't gonna be stopping digital sales anytime soon. No matter how you feel about the genre in general.

And let's be honest here. The DF community is don't think highly of the rest of their mmo brethren as you seem to.

you want to spread good word of mouth for a game? let people actually play it and talk about it.. other than read stuff on it and hope it turns out as good as it "sounds"

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg

Blizzard had to work for the success they've had, like it or not.  They didn't just start with the celeb commercials on day one or anything.  I think those started after the first expansion.

No, Blizzard grew to be the bohemoth that it is due to word of mouth advertising and great game design.  It's definitely changed over the years (I'm not a big fan of it anymore as a result), but I'm tired of people throwing crap like this around as if they are some kind of trust fund baby, who only succeeded because they had more money.

    You make me like charity

True, but in fairness very few people actually know about it at all and I can't see it being advertised that well.

Making people aware of it seems reasonable enough as long as you are not "selling it".

and to me that's how you spread word of mouth best on a good game.. allow people to actually test it and spread the word.. people can say what they want about GW2 but I felt the BWEs were a genious marketing tool for them.. allows you to get the game out there, spread the word, and test the game all in one.. it's a win win win... hopefully they get some solid footage out on this game soon to help build a bigger fanbase if they are shooting for a release this year.

Ditto to that; as big a fan as I am of GW2, I wasn't always.  I took most everything with a grain of salt until I saw actual gameplay since smoothness and combat matter to me more than anything else.  Then and only then did I get excited.  I really want to see DFUW.
