Posted below is a somewhat chronological list of videos highlighting just a small fraction of the events of the last three and a half years in Darkfall Online, and how the game world has changed over time.
Darkfall Online: 5 months of Darkfall Online HD 720p - July 13th, 2009
This video recaps a lot of the large sieges that happened between the massive alliances that arose at the dawn of the game. It also shows off some of the early solo players that made a name for themselves within the first months of the game. These were the days of low-quality armor, single stacks of regs, and massive mana missile battles.

Darkfall - [Superfriends VS Vamesis] - Aradoth Siege - January 24th, 2010
This video shows a massive siege that occured shortly after the NA server opened for character transfers from EU. A year into the game, many players were using high-end gear to give them an edge, magic had become a much more popular choice for playstyle, and clans pulled no punches when it came to defending their territory.

Darkfall - [Zealot VS Thundercats] - Silmiyat AvA Siege - June 1st, 2010
A year and a half into the game, the population had shrunk from the massive numbers that it had reached at launch. The political game became more treacherous than ever, as numbers became a larger and larger factor in fights. Alliance vs Alliance fights were a way for one alliance to prove their prowess over other alliances, without outside interference. Magic had become commonplace and tactics such as "nuke syncing" had become meta.

Darkfall - Mar Shral Siege 18/12/2010 - December 20th, 2010
After two years of Darkfall, the factors that set clans and players apart were becoming more and more apparent. The players at the top were using high-quality gear, select spells, and were being led by talented shot callers who could lead a group through the chaos of combat to a definitive outcome. Magic was so integrated into the game at this point that you had to coordinate almost every form of it to keep the battle organized. "WoF Syncs", "Toxic Dumps", and "Chain Knockups" became everyday lingo, for better or for worse.

Darkfall - Manowar Capture - NA1 - February 14th, 2011
While land-based siege combat was a huge part of Darkfall, it by no means was the extent of it. The first Ship Combat took place within weeks of the launch of the game, and sea battles have been commonplace ever since. Perhaps the most notorious of all ship fights was the day TSL's Manowar fell to the TIA zerg.
http://youtu.be/FWtiXRw1YLk?hd=1
Tri Sieged (Elish/Bloodscar/Teneland) - February 22nd, 2012
Three years into the game, it was not uncommon for the battle-hardened veterans of the game to be sieged by sometimes overwhelming numbers of enemies. Some of the most remembered fights for these players are the ones where they managed to win against all odds.

Shmee v Shmee - September 20th, 2012
Today, with Unholy Wars looming in the near future, the game is still alive, and just as dangerous as ever. Those who have fought their way to the top and stayed there for years have quite literally mastered their craft. This list would not be complete without the inclusion of a video of perhaps the best player to ever touch the game, Itwas Luck.
http://youtu.be/J2owCr7Wt9I?hd=1
Last but not least, before you shoot the messenger, please note that many of these videos are personal favorites, and do not in any way represent the exclusive history of Darkfall, especially politically. The world is so vast that the only way I could hope to approach explaining it is from a perspective familair to myself. I encourage other Darkfall players to share their own videos of the last three years, as I know there are many, many wonderful videos out there that I haven't included here.
As for Unholy Wars, this girl will be seeing you in the field >.<

"Darkfall Memories throughout the Years"
A wonderful collection of memorable moments from EU. Thanks Tupps for bringing this one to our attention!

Pure Comedy gold
I have no idea how WhisperXIII found this, but Rozalla called it right - pure comedy gold. When was the last time you heard someone so invested in whether they lived or died in a battle in an MMORPG?

The Public Service Announcement
Darkfall players also at times have a beautiful sense of irony and class, after all in a game that gives players so much freedom teasing each other into attacking can become an art form.

Darkfall 1.0 PvE videos
Some people ask did Darkfall have pve? The obvious answer is "yes" - indeed it had some of the original big nasty monsters in recent MMOs. Nothing quite compares to the cry of a dragon ... because as Tiggs used to say so long ago, in a game far far away, You should never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for thou art crunchy and go well with ketchup.
Dragons

Darkfall 1.0 Naval videos
How about this one for a real trip down memory lane ... from when LoD ruled the seas, and used Ship of the Line / Man'o'War to attack things in sieges. If anyone has a link to footage of them using their MoW in the third siege of Serruk, please link that! I remember fightinhg that thing for the better part of an hour, friggin beast of a ship. Fighting out of that cave with a ship of the line firing in was ... challenging, to say the least!
LoD's big ships clip, SotL bombardment in siege
Seriously looking forward to Unholy Wars, and having the player population again to see big ships built and used to create havoc across Agon. Sure more often than not I was the innocent fisherwoman getting sunk by some random warship that spotted me, but hey it was fun!

MEN (Kill Cult & LoD) Frigate vs DHW SotL
Big ships did occasionally clash. It is important to remember these things were worth an absolute fortune - more than player cities, at various points in the game. Sinking or taking one was a huge deal.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLcF_MHK9dQ&feature=endscreen&NR=1
Admiral Tweedle & the big boys club didn't always have it their way - in the fullness of time, I was part of a newbie heavy fleet of junks and brigantines that trapped and sank his frigate that you see in the video. Battle Saints, the all-Dwarf clan, were also a pivotal part of that battle - Red Sky took in 2 ships, and with the Saints making a fleet of 3, we shadowed the frigate directly into a fight with a veteran's ship, then blasted her to the bottom while she was already heavily engaged. You can see the two Red Sky brigantines shadowing the frigate to limit her movement in this video from NME (one of the two vets ships engaged).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQKSJ8WnJ7I
You can see the other ships fleetingly in the background in the second vid - with new player heavy crews, closing to board would have been suicide, so we used our cannons the way they had been designed - at range Very importantly, the vid below was from a player on his first sea trip - engaged in an epic battle.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-u6kxa5ogc
Oh and just so we're clear, I lost over 50 ships in Darkfall 1.0, including a Barque that lost a 5 vs 1 brawl at one sea tower, although we killed 2 of them to get it down from 7 to 5 first If only I had fraps! Naval combat was plagued with some serious issues, which based on changes already confirmed by Aventurine seem very likely to be completely gone from Unholy Wars. YAAARRRRR!
SotL vs SotL off Ruby (from 2:14 onwards).
If you know what you are looking at, both of these huge ships were undercrewed compared to the peak of Darkfall 1.0, however that they came out to fight anyway deserves credit. Too many of the best ships in the game were made, put in banks, and never used again. But when certain clans had them, they used them - win or die, they made history.

Raft & pirate song
One of the first rafts ... mainly here so if Darkfall vets say "we need the pirate song!" you will know which one everyone means. And yes, there were crews who sang the pirate song before engaging enemy ships. Rafts were the vessel of choice for many explorers and pirates, if you could approach a target ship without getting promptly sunk by cannons. YARRRR.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3yz7tTqDAig
The Erinthel Siege
We were called in to help the defenders in this siege, which was memorable for the use of dragon cannons vs ships. In the end the attackers were horribly outnumbered, but they fought with tenacity and daring, putting up a real fight to try to take one of the toughest nuts to crack in all of Agon.

Solo pvp videos
There are many wonderful solo pvp videos out there, just go google! To all those who think Darkfall forced grouping, you may enjoy watching a famous piece of Darkfall 1.0's history ...
Valroth's epic Sunthrone raid
I was there, reviving and healing most of the players Valroth killed in this lol.So much fun though.
Part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkChx07eIoY
Part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lb6wc371WRw
Cavalry action
Yes, Cavalry.
This playstyle effectively died when magic became overpowered, and mounts simply melted before riders could close. Combined with mounts being given wieghts (which were too heavy), and mounted damage being nerfed, cavalry vs cavalry was nearly extinct in late Darkfall 1.0. However that does not mean it wasn't a huge amount of fun!
Old School Cavalry vs Cavalry

Battlehorns in siege
Battlehorns were often used to try to force a heavily defended position, such as assulting up a road or breaking into a defensive line. I was at this battle, which was an epic conflict. When the heavy cavalry came in we were on the broken walls sending volley after volley of magic into the mages and archers on the plains below us. As you can see from the graves later on in this video, many of us didn't manage to fall back to the inner wall in time!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yxocmxeva-0
Some heavy cavalry charges were superbly organised, others much more chaotic. I recall riding behind William Wallace, Blue Poo, Meg Odin and the rest to flank an LoD mage army - we used bluetails to circle to thier flank, changed to battlehorns, the healers rebuffed the guys who were in full dragon on battlehorns (I was a healer), and the battlehorns were over the crest of the small hill to slam into the side of the LoD mages, creating utter havoc and killing at least a dozen before they withdrew on foot, their mounts all cut from beneath them. Our main battle line on the highground above then charged en masse, the LoD army having lost its cohesion entirely with the slaughter inflicted by the cavalry. Such action was rarely frapsed, but when used well was utterly devastating.
Charge of the Light Brigade
Charging headlong into cannons and mages didn't always work out so well ...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEbct6ugVKw
Racial Wars Charge
The original concept was everyone was going to line up then charge. But the sight of the enemy was just too tempting

One of the funniest moments I've ever seen in a Darkfall video:
http://youtu.be/eKrTwddk7eI?hd=1
>.<
Title is wrong on this one thats the Dagnamyr siege where Mcdoogs tried to ninja aradoth but fucked it up and made all our holdings go vulnerable. It was actually a ton of fun even though it never should have happened and we were actually fighting on several fronts across the world at multiple cities. That siege was a ton of fun and we held Dag with less than half our force while the rest of our guys were fighting at mehatil and another city i can't remember anymore, I was at Dag for the duration though. You can see what happens at the end of the vid when our siege force converges at the end. (the vid ends there cause the attackers all died)
DF1 was a great experience and I can't wait to make a few new friends and plenty of new enemies in DF2 see you all on the battlefield.
That moment at 2:27 when the SoTL comes out of the mist and you just know in your gut what is coming next... best feeling in the world XD
That vid is pure comedy gold...lol
[Betrayal by Treeboy, may he forever be shunned]
Darkfall also had some famous (well infamous) thefts, backstabbing, feuds and betrayals.
This betrayal below ultimately led to the player who was betrayed leaving Darkfall, but not before the clan that betrayed her was decimated - losing a general and many good players to a new clan who didn't want anything to do with backstabbing friends, losing thier nearby city, and losing all credibility as a potential ally. Forever more they were damned, because their own officers had proven they were in on the scam so plausible deniability was gone. The classic from Fspy "I hope you're not frapsing with the [Ventrillo] sound on".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=ID&feature=related&hl=id&v=fAKC_ES_TMs
Very few games have ever had the level of drama that Darkfall 1.0 provided; the only directly equivalant level of drama is found in EVE Online. The difference in Darkfall is that things get personal. In terms of "clean slate" for the game, it is understood that Aventurine has addressed many of the glaringly bad things that occurred in Darkfall 1.0 where at points players did take the freedom that the sandbox offered and go one step too far, attacking the player behind the avatar rather than keeping things in-game. However stronger community standards is expected in no way to stop lying, cheating, espionage, and basically all that scum and villainy stuff being completely legitimate tactics in DF:UW, Aventurine has had the experience in dealing with extremes and is now much better placed to ensure that the game stays as a game.
Without passion, there is no drama. And those are both missing from nearly every MMORPG out there - but wasn't missing from DF 1.0, and certainly isn't expected to be missing from DF:UW.
[Fspy in the bunker]
This one might not make much sense to people who didn't play Darkfall 1.0, where politics were absolutely huge. Empires rose and fell, and the community were always quick to comment.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljKUXK7lr2I&feature=plcp
Interesting... the prequel looked quite cool. Hmm, think ill put Darkfall: UW on my "games-to-watch-list".

Darkfall sported a free trial for a long time. It's likely they will bring it back in DFUW. If you ever do decide to give it a go, get in touch with some experienced players who can show you around the game
If you like PvP MMORPGs then it is definitely worth giving it a go. You may not like it as the game does not try to appeal to everyone but it is so unique that if you do enjoy it you will REALLY love it!

My youtube channel is a source of epic DF videos, I guess >_>
They're all 1+ year old tho
If people are wanting to see a video containing a large number of players in open field combat then this is one to look at. Its a video I made about 1 month after NA1 release, we were all still fresh characters and bearly had any high level magic at all. My character was a crafter only, and had no PVP skills to speak of.
Technically this is just a crafting character standing back and filming an epic fight.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0c-EI7Xaco
Never saw the fight against Lux on forumfall...its actually a pretty good video
Adun, we need the story to be completed! Often simply surviving to fight again another day was a massive achievement, one sadly lost in so many MMOS where once a fight is joined there is no possibility of escape / evasion.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSmXWQhVwTM&hd=1
A master archer in action
Some players in Darkfall 1.0 were truely lethal with bow, Adun was one of them. Our clan orders were "if he goes near water, mount up and get away from him". While I am not in this video, some of my friends are, and as the video demonstrates it was a mistake to underestimate a skilled Archer in Df 1.0. With the improved systems, one of the community's greatest hopes is that archers will again be able to hold thier own, which due to changes in magic (some of which are confirmed as being removed from Df:UW) was not the case in the late game in Df 1.0.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOSozPwDU2I&hd=1
Easy mode PvP with a godlike character spamming rays with a darkscepter. Post worthy these days?
Yes, because it shows how much of a big deal it is that Darkfall : Unholy Wars will not have attack ray spells any more. When people say "this is the same game with a couple new animations and pretty things added" you can point them to such videos and inform them that actually Darkfall 1.0 suffered from some serious design blunders along the way in the life of that game, and then point them to the Q&A on Darkfall's Forums where you can see that Aventurine has stepped up to fix the rubbish like the instant ray spam. This really will be a new game, and promises to be what Darkfall always should have been but never quite was.
