when realms fight and storm castles and stuff is it like a full scale battle in the hundreds or is it just like smaller numbers, cause with really big numbers you would think lag would kill you. but at the same time fullscale battles in the hundreds would just be cool. just like back in the midevil days.

It varies, can be both. Sometimes its just a small number going after towers, others it is in the hundreds for Relic Raids...

I have been in smaller raids where about 20 people try to take a castle really quickly, just for the fun of it.
If you are trying to reclaim a relic (relics give boni to the realm that hold them) or even steal another realms relic, there can be several hundred people running around a certain realms frontier and there are huge battles between defenders and attackers. Plus people from the uninvolved (third) realm that try and interfere as well - these are awesome battles that can take many hours.
Larger battles can get laggy at times, and I have been on when we crashed the servers with so many people in the same zone. But Mythic is addressing lag and crashing issues (I guess they have no real way of testing 500+ people all in close proximity casting, running, healing, slashing, etc.) and things get better each time that happens.
I highly recommend going on a big RvR (Realm vs. Realm) raid and checking it out. Lots of fun!!!
